Chapter 1

It was a cold and windy night; colder than it had been recently. The wind brushed against a lonely tree house in the middle of the Land of the Rivers. A young girl with brown and blue hair stood up walked to the solitary window. Another girl, the same age, was sitting on her makeshift bed sketching. The girl at the window stared out at the dark, cloudy sky and let out a gentle sigh. “Why Aka? Why does no one love us? Why does no one see us for who we are?” Her crimson-eyed friend sighed and set her sketch aside. “Keyo, please stop. You know why.” Keyoko turned her eyes away from the window and glared at her friend. “Akazaku, you could at least humor me. Act like I haven't asked for the hundredth time. Wait, just forget it. I don't need to be humored. All Jinchuruki are meant to suffer anyway.” She slumped down against the wall.
Akazaku stood up and walked over to her sulking friend. She slumped down right next to her and patted her shoulder. “Keyo, why are you suddenly bringing this up now? Our lives have always been this way. Haven't you accepted it by now?” Keyoko looked up into Akazaku's eyes. Her own were filled with renewed pain. “Don't worry; I've been used to it. It's just… I watched a mother and child walk through the woods today. I noticed how happy they were. The mother loved her little girl the way I wish I could be loved. It hurts all over again. Don't you ever get that feeling, Aka? That feeling of a void in your heart?” Akazaku nodded as she embraced Keyoko. “I know, but at least we have each other. And I've heard that all Jinchuruki face the same sadness that we do. We'll bear through this, and maybe someday find a people who love us for who we are, not hate us for what we are.” Keyoko nodded in agreement. She smiled and stood up. “You're right, someday we'll find someone. But for now, it's kinda cold. I should probably close the window.” Akazaku nodded.
A year ago, both girls had been banned from the rain village. Keyoko was originally from the waterfall village, while Akazaku was from the sound village. They were both orphaned at a young age and had coincidentally traveled to Konoha where they met. From Konoha, they traveled to the rain village. Soon after moving in, the inhabitants had discovered that they were Jinchuruki, but were still allowed to stay. As they tried to live normal lives as `adopted' sisters, they were constantly treated coldly just for being alive. They lived in the village's only orphanarium. They put up with the cruel treatment by the villagers for a few years, until growing sick of it.
They tried everything they could thing of to gain respect for themselves (public services), but were still ignored. So eventually, they turned to destructive actions. (vandalism, theft, etc.) The villagers grew wary of them and had convinced the Mizukage to ban them from the village. The girls had grudging agreed to leave, but not without getting revenge first. They released their demons and reeked havoc on the village. Those who opposed them were no match. They left shortly after turning back into their original forms.
They traveled back through Konoha and hid in the Land of the Rivers. They had found a sturdy old abandoned tree house in which they decided to live in. They furnished it with the objects they had stolen from the rain village. For food, they'd hunt animals or steal food from either Konoha or Suna. So for a year, they lived in this tree house. Thus, their story begins a year after they first found the tree house.
The next morning
Both girls woke up early to hunt together. They picked some wild berries and killed a plump turkey for their breakfast. They eat their breakfast quickly, and then set out for their usual training spot. They reached it shortly, and got into battle stance. “You ready?” Keyoko asked. Akazaku nodded. “3, 2, 1, Go!” They charged each other; each holding five weapons. Akazaku threw five kunai as Keyoko threw five medium-sized shuriken. All ten weapons collided in midair; causing them to fall uselessly to the ground. Akazaku caught her hands on fire as she catapulted into the air. Keyoko surrounded her body in a small tornado to be ready. Akazaku swung her hands downwards, but Keyoko dodged at the last second. She then shot her tornado at Akazaku, who quickly did a summersault over it.
For the next ten minutes, both girls matched each other punch for punch before calling it a draw. They sent their elemental powers away and stood panting. The ground below them lay scorched and in wind damaged bits. “Good training today, Keyoko.” Keyoko nodded. “Ditto.” They picked up their weapons and turned to walk back, when they heard a slight rustle from the nearby trees.
“Who's there!?” Keyoko yelled as she and Akazaku readied their kunai. The bushes rustled violently as two robed males stepped out. They wore matching black robes with red and white clouds printed on them. They both appeared to be about seventeen years old. One had long blonde hair with part of it pulled into a small ponytail, and a long strand over his left eye. His visible eye was cerulean in color, and its shape was slanted and bird-like. The other one had medium length jagged brown-red hair that bordered his piercing emerald eyes.
Akazaku broke the silence. “Who are you guys?” The blonde stepped forward. “Sorry, where are our manners? I'm Deidara, and my teammate behind me is Sasori. We couldn't help but investigate the strange fiery tornado shooting above the trees.” “It was practically a beacon,” Sasori added. Keyoko scratched her head; embarrassed. “Sorry, I guess we should be more discreet of our abilities when training.” Deidara smiled. “We followed the fiery wind and saw you two fighting. You're both quite good.” Sasori grinned. “I thought you two were going to kill each other.” Deidara nodded. “But the point is we were wondering if you two would like to join our group, Akatsuki. We could use some more members, and you two would be perfect.”
Both girls looked shocked. “One second.” “We have to discuss it first.” They turned their backs to the boys.
“They want us to join just because they saw us fight? Did we seem to be that good?” Keyoko asked.
“Well, we did train a little harder than usual. But either way, we shouldn't join.”
“Why not? We'd finally be appreciated.”
“Because we're Jinchuruki, and in case you've forgotten, Akatsuki is against us.”
“But wouldn't it be better than how we live now? What's life without risks?”
Akazaku remained silent. Keyoko began to beg.
“Come on, we can hide our secret, I know we can.”
“You really want to put both our lives on the line for this?”
“Don't you want to be appreciated?”
“Alright, let's do it.”
The girls turned back. “We accept. Just tell us what to do.” Deidara smiled. “Good, follow us.” They lead the way back to where they had come. The girls followed obediently, as they wondered what they were getting themselves into.
After about ten minutes of walking, the four of them halted before an enormous cave blocked by a giant boulder. “Here we are,” Deidara announced. He stepped forward and held his ring against the boulder. A second later, a small hole appeared and they filed in. The minute the last person entered, the hole closed as suddenly as it had appeared; creating a ringing `boom'. This caused Keyoko to jump a bit. Sasori grinned and patted her shoulder reassuringly. “Don't worry, you get used to it after a while. It took Deidara three whole weeks.” Deidara frowned. “You know, it's not nice to talk about yourself, Sasori.” Sasori chuckled. “Whatever, you just don't want to be embarrassed.” Deidara glared at him. But it was quickly replaced with laughter. The girls soon found themselves laughing as well.
A minute later, the boys stopped them in front of some double doors labeled `meeting room'. The boys held them open and allowed the girls to enter first. The two Jinchuruki found themselves inside a stadium of a room. But despite its size, it contained only a podium, a blackboard, five large tables, and several chairs. At the front of the room at the podium, stood a serious-faced man with carrot-orange hair and four nose studs. He, like everyone else in the room, was wearing the same robes as Deidara and Sasori. The four intruders stood silently in the middle of the room. Everyone else turned their heads to face them.
The man at the front raised a fist to his mouth as he cleared his throat. “So I take it you two have discovered the cause of the flaming tornado?” Sasori and Deidara nodded. Deidara grabbed Akazaku's hand, while Sasori grabbed Keyoko's, and lead the girls forward. (Both girls couldn't help but blush at the contact) Deidara looked up at the man. “Leader, we followed the fiery tornadoes and found these two. They were training with each other, and their abilities merged together.” Sasori nodded. “We hid and watched them fight for a few minutes as well. They appeared to be exceptionally skilled, so we asked if they wanted to join Akatsuki. They accepted, so we brought them here.”
The leader frowned. “That was a bold decision, but possibly helpful. We could always use new members.” He then turned to face the girls. He eyed them strangely; as if trying to look into their souls. “What skills do you two posses?”
Akazaku spoke up first.
“We are both special jounin from villages that we are no longer associated with. I have a bloodline ability that allows me to control and manipulate fire, as well as sprouting phoenix wings.”
“And my bloodline allows me to control and manipulate air and wind, along with sprouting dragon wings.”
“Hmm.” The leader scratched his chin as he looked around the room. “So, who in this room thinks that we should give these girls a chance to prove themselves to us?”
