Chapter Eighteen
The One He Loves

Past...

Neji watched with a saddened smile upon Naruto as the blond haired jounin ran through the rain away from the Hyuuga household.

A gentle kiss was placed upon Naruto's lips. Neji knew that it would be the last he could give the blond haired man. And Naruto complied. Neji knew that Naruto didn't love him like that, but Naruto didn't know that he knew.

That gentle caress of the hand upon Naruto's skin was soothing, especially when the white eyed jounin traced the whisker marks upon his cheeks. The blond released a heavy sigh.

"I lied Naruto,"he said, eyes looking down at the floor before unwillingly searching upwards.

"What do you mean?"Naruto asked. Neji wanted to bask within the oceans of Naruto's eyes, the endless gaze that always searched through your soul, always finding the truth no matter how deep you've buried it and never fading in spirit.

Neji merely leaned in and kissed him one last time. It was sweet, chaste, and sad. It was the final kiss. He etched the gentle curves of Narutos lips within his memory, remembering the taste, the softness, the innocence.

"Neji, I have something to tell you,"Naruto said with the shake of his head and a smile.

"I know,"Neji answered.

"Then you know we can't be together,"Narutos smile began to fade.

Neji looked downwards. "Earlier when I had told you I lied, it was about when I told you that I didn't know why you put up with Sasuke." Naruto gave him an unreadable glance. "I lied, because I do know why. You,"Gods why was it so hard to say, "You love him. And I love you Naruto."

"Neji,"began Naruto.

"But I want you to know that I love your happiness, and if being with him will make you happy, then I give you up,"Neji said. "I can only hope that he takes good care of you, and you to him. And I can only hope that someday, I'll find someone who gives me happiness like he has to you."

"Thank you Neji,"Naruto smiled geniunly.

"However, if he should in any way hurt you, I will personally introduce my not so gentle fist up his ass, and put on a puppet show with Kankuro for all of Konoha to see,"Neji stated.

Naruto wasn't sure if he should laugh, being that Neji stated that in a serious tone, or cringe being that it was a horrible punnishment for anybody to suffer. He chose the earlier decision and laughed, bringing a smile onto his face.

"I have to go now,"Naruto spoke. He stood up and in a suprise mood, hugged Neji. "Goodbye."

He turned to leave, and Neji watched as he left, another rain pouring. It wasn't long before he was out of sight.

Hinata walked in. "Neji-niisan."

"Would you like some tea?"he asked.

Hinata smiled. "Of course."

Past...

"Gaara, I have to speak with you,"Temari stated, hands on her hips, fan strapped to her back, and an unsure glance upon her face. The red headed ninja turned to face his sister, curiousity evident within his eyes.

"About what?"he asked.

"About Naruto-san,"Temari stated.

"What about Naruto?"Gaara asked.

"He came to me the other day,"Temari began, sitting down next to Gaara, leaning against the wall. "And he told me something."

"And what does this have to do with anything?"Gaara asked.

"He was troubled and saught advice. And I gave it,"Temari replied.

"What did he say?"Gaara asked.

"He said he liked someone. A lot. In fact he's liked him since he was young,"Temari stated. "He told me the predicaments he was in, and believe me, that kid doens't know how to leave out the details, especially when he needs to."

"That sounds like Naruto,"Gaara smiled slightly.

"He's in love with Uchiha Sasuke,"Temari replied.

"S-Sasuke?! He's in LOVE with SASUKE!"Gaara jumped up, anger flaring around him. Temari sighed and pulled out her fan. With a swift whack to the back of the head, Gaara was back on the ground.

"Ouch Temari, that hurt,"Gaara whined.

"If only everyone knew the babier side of you little brother,"Temari grinned.

Gaara glared daggers but Temari ignored the deadly look he gave her.

"He told me that he loved both you and Hyuuga Neji, but not in the ways that you both loved him. That, he told me, was reserved for Sasuke,"Temari spoke. "They've grown so much together, that you have to admit Gaara. From what Tenten tells me, Sasuke has changed over the years, and it's because of Naruto."

"Naruto changes people,"Gaara bitterly spoke. "Why the hell would he love Sasuke! The bastard has tried to kill him, always insulted him, betrayed the village he loved so much, and was willing to even kill him to obtain a level of his advanced bloodline just to kill his equal bastard of a brother! Why. The hell. Would he love. Him?!"

"Gaara, calm down,"Temari sternly pleaded.

Gaara suprisingly complied.

"He loves him because despite all of that, he was good on the inside. Naruto isn't the type of person to give up on someone. He and Sasuke have gone through a lot with and for eachother. More than we could understand, little brother,"Temari stated. "Only Naruto knows what's good for him, and we must respect his choice to be with Uchiha Sasuke."

Gaaras shoulders lowere in defeat.

His gaze lowered upon her words.

"And that's why."

Inner turmoil threatened him, yet he remained calm upon the outside. "I see."

They were soon interupted by the voice of the third sibling, middle child Kankuro. "Yo brat,"he stated giving Gaara a bored gaze.

Temari rolled her eyes. "You can always count on Kankuro to ruin the mood."

Gaara slightly smiled and nodded. "What?"

"You have a guest,"he replied with arms crossed behind his head. He starred at Naruto for a moment.

The blond haired blue eyed jounin was soaked from the rain which had at the time, stopped.

"Hi Gaara,"Naruto waved quite sheepishly.

"Naruto-san,"Gaara replied. "You're all wet."

Temari looked between the two and spoke up. "I'll go and get a towel for you Naruto-san." Before leaving, she bowed.

"You walked here in the rain?"asked Gaara.

"Yes,"Naruto answered. "From Neji's house."

"Neji?"Gaara asked with a curious yet unsure glance.

"I-I had to talk to him about something,"Naruto stuttered slightly.

"About what?"

"Not aobut what, about who."

Gaara listened until Temari re-entered holding a white fluffy towel.

"Oy, here's a towel, Naruto-san,"she said handing him the sweet smelling fabric.

"Thank you Temari-san,"Naruto replied taking the towel and drying off his hair.

"We'll leave you two, to talk,"Temari stated, snatching her brothers wrist, and dragging Kankuro off. Gaara and Naruto watched quietly, only to speak again when they both dissapeared from sight.

"So, what were you talking about?"Gaara asked.

"Sasuke."

Gaara spoke with a voice tainting with jealously, "What about?"

"I was worried about him,"said Naruto, with a frown. Gaara lowered his eyes and softened his tone.

"Oh. Don't worry about him. He's stronger than he looks, and he's matured from twelve years ago." Even the Kazekage had to admit the growth of the Uchiha-heir.

"You're right, but I can't help...ah never mind."

A smile appeared. "Thanks for the words of wisedom Gaara-cookie,"he winked.

The rain paused, and the sun once again began to shine against the contrast of the gray clouds.

He pulled the towel from around his neck and handed it to Gaara. "I'll see ya around."

"Naruto,"called Gaara, "wait."

"Huh?"questioned Naruto with a raised eyebrow.

"I-I have to tell you something,"Gaara replied.

"Hmm?"asked Naruto.

With a deep sigh, he began. "Naruto, I'm no good with feelings. I'm an emotional void. I didn't have the brightest of childhoods, and I know you didn't either. Ever since the chuunin exams, years ago, I haven't been able to stop thinking aobut you. You were...my first real friend." He paused and looked Naruto in the eyes. "I, Naruto..."

"Gaara?"

Just come out and say it, thought Gaara.

"I love you."

Both their hearts were pounding, Gaara could hear his.

"Gaara, I-"

"I know that you love Sasuke. And I want you to know, that whatever makes you happy, makes me happy as well."

Naruto felt incrediably happy.

But then a mysterious darkness clouded the room and lightning formed from behind Gaara. "But should he EVER, and I mean EVER do anything to hurt you in ANY WAY, I promise he'll be wishing for Hell when I'm done with him,"Gaara cracked his knuckles.

Naruto wondered where that echo in his voice came from.

"Funny, Neji threatened him too,"Naruto spoke in a little voice.

Gaara smiled. "Well?"

"Well what?"Naruto asked.

"I don't want to sound cleche, but go to him,"Gaara smiled.

"Thanks Gaara,"Naruto dove in for a quick hug.

He waved a goodbye just as the clouds began to disperse. The sun was shining and Gaara, although heartbroken, felt happy.

"How'd it go?"Temari asked popping her head into the room.

"Just dandy,"Gaara replied.

Kankuro pointed a finger at Gaara and looked with a suprised face at Temari. "Did he just say 'dandy'?"

Sasuke didn't visit Akina that day or the day before. He figured that it was a time for her to recover peacefully, without him hovering around her. Things have calmed down over the past few days. The threat of an enemy within the midst disapated when Sakura and several other chakra experts scanned the nearby areas for foreign chakra, and found nothing. Tsunade and placed her concern onto him now, which often annoyed the black haired man. But hey, she's the Hokage. If he doesn't like the way she runs things, then she'll kick his ass.

And that's the way the cookie crumbles.

He hadn't seen Naruto around lately, but remembered how when he came to visit Akina, Naruto never looked at him. It rather confused him.

He was currently heading towards his home, hands in his pockest and ignoring the legion of mid-teenaged fangirls behind him. He thought about running but the image within his mind told him that it would be a bad idea.

It would be like a safari hunt. Fangirls, like lions, travel in packs. They see their prey and stalk it. The little gazelle that was Sasuke would just be minding his own business when WHAM, he's attacked and glomped.

So he ignored it all. Though should in real life, the gazelle ignore the lion, he'd be screwed.

"Oy, Sasuke-teme!"

Sasuke turned around to see Naruto running towards him, a bright smile and waving his hand. A smile appeared upon Sasuke's face, everything escaping his mind to make room for the blond haired jounin.

Jumping upon Sasuke with an opened armed embrace, Naruto smiled his fox grin. "Oy teme, where do you think you're going?"

"I was heading home, if you'd like to join me,"Sasuke grinned.

Naruto flashed him an evil look, unlatching from him but now walking beside him. "So hows Akina-san?"

"She's doing excellent, already out of bed. She complains too much and she's becoming lazy,"Sasuke noted.

"That's good to hear,"Naruto continued his wicked gleam.

Sasuke stopped.

Naruto stopped shortly after and turned to look back at him.

"What?"Naruto asked.

Sasuke resembled a chibi of himself with a confused face. "Why are you smiling like that?"

"Smiling like what?"he continued to smile evilly, so much that even Kyuubi would be jealous.

In fact he was, somewhere in Naruto's mind, the demon fox snorted and said, "I can do a better gleam than him."

"Smiling like THAT!"Sasuke pointed out.

It wasn't long before Sasuke realized that the grin Naruto gave was highly, highly (Oh my god, Sasuke thinks)...sexy.

"I think you like me smiling like that,"Naruto winks looking down before looking up.

Sasuke looked down and noticed an oncoming erection. He covered it up.

Naruto moved foreward, enclosing the small gap that was left between them to whisper in Sasuke ear. "I don't feel like giving the fangirls a show, so why don't we take this to your place?"

"Are you sure?"asked Sasuke.

Naruto nodded.

Before the blond knew it, Sasuke had once again claimed dominance. Naruto was tossed over Sasukes shoulder who held an out of this world smug-bastard grin on his face.

The act suprised Naruto, "Oy, Sasuke-teme!"

Sasuke answered with a slap to Naruto's ass, causing a sexy squeak.

Neji had occupied a small table outside a tea shop. He had been within his thoughts since earlier, and decided to get something to eat. Though most wouldn't expect it, Neji had a weakness for blueberry muffins.

However it was quite unexpected when he noticed a familiar redhead passing by.

Gaara turned his gaze, feeling another one on him. He noticed Hyuuga Neji watching him with a solem glance.

The sand nin smiled and Neji returned the smile back.

Perhaps things will turn out okay afterall.

Ino greedilly rubbed her hands together as she tossed the cash she made off the bet in the air. Beside here was Sakura and Hinata. Sakura was making an angel in hers, while Hinata, who had bet on Neji lost. Hinata knew it as a bad idea to tell the girls that Naruto chose Sasuke.

"I'm rich! I'm rich!"Ino chanted.

"Oh the money feels so good on my skin!"Sakura replied creating a fan out of several big bills and fanning her face.

Hinata sighed and smiled.

"Come and join us Hinata!"Ino offered.

"Okay."

Kakashi smiled serenly, as Iruka rested sleeping upon his chest. The musky scent of sex still filled the air. The copy-nin had never felt more at peace with anybody. Iruka was special.

He kissed Iruka's forehead earning a snuggle from the other man. Kakashi may be lecherous, he may be perverted with nose constantly in the Icha Icha Paradise books, but nothing can compare to making love to the one you love with all your heart.

...And the fact that Iruka was quite the kinky wildcat, well that was good too.

"Something bothering you?"Iruka asked groggilly. Kakashi looked down on the brown haired chuunin teacher.

"You weren't asleep very long,"Kakashi noted.

"I was snoozing, not sleeping,"Iruka replied with a tired smile.

"I'm sure you were,"Kakashi joked. "And no, nothing was bothering me."

"You looked so pensive,"Iruka replied caressing Kakashis face with his hand.

"I was in thought,"Kakashi replied.

"About what?"Iruka asked.

"About how sexy you are and about how much I love you,"Kakashi answered. Iruka smiled a toothy grin and leaned in to capture his lovers lips. Kakashi replied with a groan noting how Iruka purposely rubbed against his lower regions.

"I love you too,"Iruka replied.
