Firm, steady strokes of a well-manicured hand under the steamy water of a morning shower were all that was necessary to rectify the morning wood that greeted Higashino Shuzou when he awakened. Of course, getting to the bathroom without alerting his houseguest, while sporting an almost painful erection could have been a little tricky. But, since Kawanishi Wataru had drunk so many beers the night before in the park, he was sleeping it off still.

Higashino’s head fell back as his mind relived the memory of the kiss they’d shared in front of the swingset, Kawanishi’s words, “We should stay together forever.”

Abruptly, he stood straighter and shook his head in negation. No. This isn’t right. This isn’t what he needed to get himself off. That would mean… He’d have to be gay to find another man’s kiss…

He forced his mind to picture Naomi’s perfect legs. The curve from her waistline to her hip, the slope down her thigh. The perfect arc at her knee as the muscles of her well-formed calf tapered to her slender ankle and her dainty toes. To see those legs. THAT was what he needed. To kiss those delicate toes and work up, worshiping them the entire way. Not the hairy, yet still well-shaped calves of Kawanishi. Legs of the perfect woman.

And then, that woman, legs stretched elegantly behind her, would kneel, and would kiss, then she’d lick, and finally wrap her soft lips around his manhood. And eyes would look up at him beguilingly, wantonly, happily as if taking a thrill from the pleasure the lips were giving. A firm hand would wrap around his shaft to increase the pleasure – the roughness of fingertips contrasting so amazingly with the softness of the lips-

It really was amazing that Kawanishi spent so much time grooming to ensure the skin on his face was so silky smooth when he left his hands so rough and manly – adding to the friction when he wrapped his hand around Shuzou’s cock – the opposite of the silky smoothness of his face, his lips. And that look in his eyes when he was sucking him – like he knew exactly how good he was making Shuzou feel and very much enjoyed giving him that pleasu-

An involuntary groan escaped his lips as he finally exploded.

Then, a moan as he realized what the image was he’d just come to.

Hanging his head, he let the water beat down on his back as the unwanted conclusion came through. Facts were facts. He was not drunk, and he’d just come from the thought of Kawanishi sucking him off. To make matters worse, he hadn’t been drunk last night either – when Wataru’s kiss had calmed him, when he’d welcomed it and felt, if only for a second, that maybe – just maybe – they were right together.

The thought of coming home to him, his crappy cooking – but maybe done with love? It was romantic. And while he’d never been one for romance before, somehow, the thought was… nice.

But then Kawanishi Wataru had sobered up, and hadn’t remembered any of it. Hadn’t remembered asking to stay together. And was just as offended by the thought of being gay as before.

Not that Shuzou was gay. He wasn’t. He still liked women. But… Something he’d heard a high school classmate say in the locker room came back to him. “If you’ve EVER sucked cock, you’re gay. I don’t care if you put a gun to my head, I’ll never put a dick in MY mouth.” But he’d sucked on Wataru’s. The memory of it – sketchy from alcohol thought it may be – made his expended cock twitch.

But he still liked women. Their legs were incomparably better.

Maybe… he was bi? He considered this for a minute. This was slightly easier to deal with. And if he was bi, he could still look forward to a future with women. Yeah. Okay. This was okay. He could deal with this.

He just needed to get Kawanishi out of his house, and get a new girlfriend so he could get past all this, and everything would be fine.

Kawanishi Wataru lay quietly on the sofa, his eyes closed, feigning sleep. Yesterday had been… a trial. And now, he wasn’t sure what to do.

It had been a long time since he’d shared a living space with anyone. He’d had a roommate in college. And then, he’d moved in with his girlfriend after graduation. Of course, when she dumped him, he’d had to move out pretty quickly. He’d wisely stayed in his own place ever since. So, he’d been kind of excited to be able to share a space with Higashino. Sure, it was just because of the fire in the apartment upstairs and the situation
was only temporary. But, he always had fun hanging out with him.

They’d been rivals more than once – in fact, there was this ongoing competition about who could last in a relationship longer. But it was all in fun. It was kind of like a practice match in tennis, back in high school. You really wanted to win – but it was just for bragging rights, not for any other reason.

Coming home that first day after work, he’d really wanted to thank Higashino. After all, he didn’t HAVE to let him stay there. He could have made him stay at a hotel. Making dinner seemed like the least he could do. So, he’d bought a rice cooker and an apron. It was every guy’s fantasy to have his girl serve him dinner in nothing but an apron, right? It would show off their tits to perfection, and provide easy access to everything a guy might want. And yeah, Higashino preferred legs, but that was okay because the apron would show that off, too.

Looking at their history, they were so on the same wavelength – except for that guy’s crazy leg fetish. Every male out there knows that it’s boobs that make a girl a girl. Soft little pillows that you can bury your face in as you bury your cock in her…

And that was what made it all so weird. Because he really DID like breasts. They were beautiful and soft and wonderful. But for some reason, when Higashino’s nipples – on top of a firm, muscular and FLAT chest – got hard, he was more turned on than he’d ever been by any woman’s breasts.

It hadn’t made any sense to him. Until they’d tried dating those two lesbians. And he, Kawanishi Wataru, self-proclaimed lover of breasts, had ended up with the skinny, A-cup girl. And he’d actually really liked her. Because she’d been so much – so much – like Higashino.

That had made him really stop and think.

He’d been drunk after the girls had dumped them both. But not as drunk as he’d pretended. The fact was that he had truly wanted to be with Higashino that night. Higashino was his best friend. He liked being with the cold guy. He trusted him, implicitly. Simply, Higashino was the only person that he could depend upon. Sure, he always scolded him. But only because he needed scolding – it was always really to help him. It made him feel… cared for.

Moving in with him was a limited time chance. Because they were both guys, so they would only have so much time to spend together. Eventually, they’d marry some woman and that would be it. This was all the chance he’d get to spend some time with him before one or the other of them got a girlfriend, got married.

The sound of Shuzou in the shower meant he didn’t have to pretend he was asleep and he opened his eyes and looked around the apartment.

It was nice while it lasted. He didn’t have any illusions. Last night, he’d been kicked out. Sure, Higashino changed his mind and went looking for him, afterwards. But he’d done something, pissed him off. And that was that. When Higashino did go looking for him, and found him in the park, then, the brunette had caught his drunken friend as he fell off the swing, and Kawanishi’d had a moment of hope, thought maybe… And then, although he was sober, he’d allowed the blonde to kiss him. He’d allowed him to kiss him even after Kawanishi’d said that they should stay together. But after the kiss, that look – that shellshocked look on his face. He… he didn’t really… He’d never…

So, Kawanishi had pretended to sober up and not remember what had happened.

There’s no future for two guys. That’s all there was to it.

As much as he liked spending time with Shuzou, as happy as he was when they were together, Shuzou would never… There would never be a future for them together.

Sighing, he closed his eyes. And decided to move himself forward. There was no helping it.

Four days later, Saturday, his apartment was Kawanishi-free – the repairs had been completed and the blonde had moved back to his own place the night before. It was the perfect time to start playing the field again.

“Shouko-san. You’re looking especially lovely today. How about you join me for a drink after work?”

The cool brunette gave him a wry, almost sad smile. “Sure, Higashino-san. I’ll meet you after work, and we can go to Wabisuke.”

With a tight smile, he thought to himself, ‘Well, that was easy. Usually she turns me down to go spend time with her husband. Oh, well. If I get to look at those legs all night, I’m not going to complain.’

Four hours later, he found himself next to her at the bar at Wabisuke. Her legs gracefully crossed, his eyes drank them in, right down to the strappy silver sandals that more accentuated her shapely toes than covered them. Third most lovely legs in the world? Maybe he should re-evaluate.

Drinks in hand, she smiled that same sad smile and said, “You know, Higashino-san, there really are other fish in the sea.”

Okay, this was weird. Where was she going with this? He knew she was married, so the gentle turn down wasn’t really needed…

“And I know the two of you have a long history, but really, this may be for the best. I mean, really, you deserve better. You’re a nice enough guy. Anyone who is so ashamed of his own orientation that he not only ruins it for the man who loves him, but is willing to bring an innocent woman into the problem, well, I think…”

His expression was that of cautious confusion. She paused and took a sip of her wine. Then she looked at him very critically. “You weren’t… hoping that the marriage interviews would fail, were you? Because there’s always someone desperate enough to be married, you know. If he’s looking, he’ll find someone willing – and it probably won’t take too long.”

Eyebrows drawn together critically, he replied, “Shouko, what ARE you talking about?”

She blinked at him and then her eyes got wide. “You hadn’t heard? Everyone in the office was talking about it!”

“About what?”

“Kawanishi’s omiai. He announced to the whole office that he wants to get married by the end of the year and that he’s going to do whatever it takes to find his perfect wife. He was going to the first omiai tonight.”

Higashino just looked at her blankly. And she bowed apologetically.

“Oh, my god! I thought you knew! I thought that’s why you wanted to go out to drink – to drown your sorrows. I mean, it’s so obvious how close the two of you are, and we were so shocked to hear. It seemed almost like a slap in your face – it pissed me off. Oh, but you didn’t know! I’m so sorry!”

She continued apologizing, but he really didn’t hear her. Kawanishi had decided to get married? And after he’d said…

He slammed back his drink, and gestured to the bartender for a refill. When that arrived, he quickly drained that glass as well, and gestured for another. His mind was kind of a grey fog.

That stupid idiot.

What did he think he was doing? He’d said he wanted to stay together.

Vaguely, he heard Shouko muttering soothing words like, “I know he did,” “I understand," and "Let's get you a cab home, okay?” but they barely registered.

For some reason, his legs weren’t really working right and she had to help support him on the way to the cab. She even paid the fare, which was weird, and then kissed him on the cheek before sending him off. He stared at her calves as the cab drove away. They really were beautiful.

Not all hairy and overly muscular like Kawanishi’s. His glance moved upward and he saw her eyes watching him with sadness and concern. Those weren’t like Kawanishi’s either. His eyes always looked hopeful, and they always shone as if he were thinking of doing something really stupid – which he usually was.

Stupid Kawanishi.

Getting married? What the hell! Like any woman would want to get married to him? Sure, he could be charming for a while, but then they’d get to know him and see what he was all about.

Oh, he knew how that guy thought. If the omiai went well – if she had big fat udders like all the other cows he’d dated – he’d probably talked her into going home with him. He’d probably charmed her so thoroughly. Of course he had.

He was probably there right now, shoving his face in her busoms, smiling that ridiculous, cheerful, idiot smile of his. With his face in her tits, making motorboat noises!

Well, screw that!

Higashino leaned forward and drunkenly gave directions to the cab driver to stop about three blocks sooner than what had been paid for by Shouko. Not like the cabby cared – that was just more money for him. If some drunk asshole couldn’t find his way home, it wasn’t his problem.

Kawanishi sighed as he pulled off his facial mask. It made his skin shiny and smooth. But it wasn’t like it really mattered. It was just habit now. The masks were to attract women. But if he was going to get married, well, he didn’t have to do much. Just keep going to the omiai until he found someone he could tolerate and who could tolerate him.

He remembered the first time he’d tried this mask. Higashino had come over for no reason. And then someone had tripped and his mask had gotten on Higashino’s shirt, so he’d had to take it off to wash it and wear Kawanishi’s shirt while he’d done so.

The blonde smiled at the memory of his cool friend in his uncool Hawaiian print shirt. Shuzou’d given him crap about the mask, but when he’d grabbed his hand to make him feel how soft it made his face feel, he’d noticed once again how soft the man’s hands were. Not like his own. And as they’d held hands, Shuzou had started really looking at the roughness of his hands and then he’d blushed…

The memory of Higashino blushing made him groan. Wasn’t this the whole reason he went to that stupid omiai tonight?

Ugh. The memory made him groan again. He wanted to find someone to marry so he could stop thinking about Higashino and their untenable future together. The girl he’d met tonight – he couldn’t even remember her name – had short dark hair like Shuzou, and she had big boobs. But…

Oh, my god! She was a moron! There was just no way. And she’d started drinking immediately, and fallen all over him – which normally would have been great, but she’d look at him with eyes like Shuzou’s and then say something so STUPID that he just wanted to slug her. He’d wanted help forgetting the man, not to meet someone who just… Ugh. It was like she was a mockery of him. It made him want the real thing. Really want him.

He’d considered taking her home with him anyway. At least he’d get something out of the deal that way. But honestly, he couldn’t take another minute in the stupid bitch’s presence. He’d called it a night, gone home, and immediately started his evening skin care regimen.

Sighing again, he finished brushing his teeth and started to head toward his bedroom, when the sound of someone pounding on his front door brought him alert. Crossing his apartment, he looked out through the peephole. All he could see was what looked like dark hair, blocking the view.

Brow scrunched in curiosity, he opened the door. And a disheveled body fell in on him. They both fell to the floor, the blonde pretty much catching his night-time visitor in his lap.

“Whoa! What the hell!?” he exclaimed as they fell. And the door swung closed, leaving him alone with his visitor on the ground.

And then, the scruffy head lifted to glare at him through glasses that sat askew on his face. Grabbing Wataru’s shirt front, he pulled himself up so that his head was closer to the same level. Holy crap, it was Higashino.

The fallen visitor, still clutching the front of Kawanishi’s shirt, opened his mouth to say something scathing, but couldn’t come up with anything to say. He shut his mouth again, and glared harder, concentrating on finding just the right combination of words that would explain everything.

Finally, it came to him and he looked right into Kawanishi’s eyes as he declared, “Liar.”

Blinking, he responded, “What?” The drunken mass just glared at him some more. “Higashino. You’re drunk.”

With venom, he responded, “An’ yer a liar. But tom’rrow, I’ll be sober. Y’u’ll still be a liar.” He paused and added, “Idiot.” And then his head flopped down to rest on the blond’s chest.

Kawanishi had never been an ace student – he hadn’t been student council president like Higashino. So he knew he wasn’t always the smartest banana in the bunch. But he was honestly flummoxed. Higashino normally didn’t come to his place, ever. Only that one time when he’d been dumped. But it was too soon – neither of them had gotten a girlfriend since their last breakup, so that couldn’t be it. Why was he here? There had to be a reason he had a lapful of Shuzou right now.

Oh, and that was another problem all together, because he felt really nice there. Warm. And he’d had nothing to drink tonight, so he had nothing that he could use to explain it away if his visitor noticed the stirrings that were starting to take place. Oh, this man would be the death of him. Wasn’t this why he’d even gone to that horrible omiai tonight?

“…’snot fair,” came a rumbling against his chest.

Softly, he whispered, “What’s not fair?”

“Tsnot fair to make me feel so calm and comfortable allatime. ‘M s’posed to be mad atchu.” He sighed and rested his cheek against the other man’s chest. “Why’d’ju even say you wanted to stay together if you din’t even mean it? Stupid idiot.” He sat up a little taller. “Go ahead. Get married to a stupid pair of boobs. Why should I care!” As he said the last sentence, he punched Kawanishi in the face, and fell onto his own face in drunken unconsciousness.

“Ow.”

Kawanishi laid there, holding his battered cheek for a few minutes, his legs trapped under the torso of his late-night visitor. Then he smiled and began moving to pull his guest to the bedroom, so he could sleep off his drunken stupor.

“Ugh!” Higashino groaned and pulled the pillow out from under his head, placing it over his eyes to block out the light. Had he left the lights on in the room last night? He opened one eye a slit, and saw, no, it was sunlight in from the window. But wait. This wasn’t his room. This was… he buried his head under the pillow again, afraid to wake up and face what he might have done the night before. The last thing he remembered was slamming back his third scotch after Shouko had told him that Kawanishi…

“Good morning!” came the overly chipper voice of the man in question. “I brought you some coffee and some aspirin. I’ve never seen you that drunk before, ever – so I’m guessing you have one hell of a hangover.” He held out the mug with one hand and on his other palm were four aspirin. “Be careful with the mug, though. You kinda landed on your nose last night – it’s probably a little sore.”

With a groan, he forced himself to sit and take the offerings, carefully swallowing the pills and following it up with a long sip of coffee. Mmmmm. Black the way he liked it.

Opening both eyes minimally – just enough to see, albeit hazily – he watched as Kawanishi crossed to the window and looked outside. “You know, I’m not a liar,” he said softly. Higashino could only see his silhouette with the sun so bright behind him. “A coward, maybe, but not a liar.”

Taking another long sip, he whispered – so as to not hurt his own head, “O… kay?” What was this guy talking about? What had happened last night?

The blond nodded and looked over at him. “I’m… not entirely surprised that you don’t remember calling me a liar last night. But I wanted you to know: I’m not one.” He turned away from his guest, back to the window again. “I just couldn’t stand the thought of being the only one to want… I like being with you, Higashino. I mean, I like girls, I do. But it’s not the same. Girls are kind of… I don’t know. They’re pretty and soft and all, but they don’t really know me ever – they don’t… I mean, it bugs me when they dump me, but down deep, I really don’t care because there’s always another one out there, isn’t there? But…”

He rested both his palms on the window sill and his forehead against the pane. “…there’s not another you. I think… I think you’re my… best friend.”

Throughout the blonde’s speech, he found his jaw starting to fall open. No. No one would call him cool if they saw him now. And then it ended on “best friend.” And he shut his jaw with a snap, grimacing, his eyes tight.

“Best. Friend,” he said, his voice cold. “I… see.”

Spinning, Kawanishi stomped his foot. “I already said I was a coward! Can’t you…?! I’m SOBER, Higashino. And you are, too. What am I supposed to do here?! It’s the morning, and we haven’t even had one beer to blame it on. If I say anything else, what’s to keep you from… not even being my friend anymore?” He slumped down into a sitting position under the window, head hanging between his knees.

Higashino Shuzou looked over at the slouched form. He couldn’t deny it. His heart went thump at the image.

“I…” he started, with a volume louder than he’d intended. “I should never drink just because I’m mad at you,” he muttered, and the blonde looked up at him. The look of hope on the idiot’s face made him laugh and sigh. “God, we’re idiots,” he breathed as he began massaging his temple. “Fuck. Okay, fine. I get it. I got drunk off my ass last night because you went to a fucking omiai, but you still need me to say it? Fine. I… I’m not gay, ‘cuz I like women’s legs better than yours, but maybe… Maybe I’m bi because I like… you… being with you. And… If you go off and get married to some stupid set of cow udders and leave me all alone, I’m going to spend the rest of my life making your life miserable. Got it, you jerk?”

When he opened his eyes, there was another pair right in front of him, smiling. “Got it,” he whispered, just before their lips found each other.

[Lemon goes here. But I like ending it on romance, so you can picture it yourself.]

The end.
