Two cloaked figures walked into Pallet Town. The one in lead was a few
inches shorter than the one in the back, but it was clear this person
was the leader. They stopped before the city entrance and stood for a
moment. The shorter one nodded and they entered the town. They walked
through the city, searching for someone.
"Hi. Are you lost?" A boy asked. The smaller one turned to him and his
two friends.
~I seek a boy from this city. Do you know a child known as Ash
Ketchum?~ The psychic reply came. The boy smiled.
"I'm Ash!" He proudly stated. The first one turned to the other. The
taller one nodded. The smaller one turned back to Ash.
~I challenge you. It will be one Pokémon each. If you win I will tell
you why we seek you. Do you accept?~ Ash smiled.
"Of course!" He said. His Pikachu hopped onto his shoulder. The taller
figure began to step forward, when the smaller one raised a hand. A
Pokeball floated up and opened to reveal a Quilava.
"Okay. Pikachu, Go!" Ash commanded.
~Quilava, Smoke Screen.~ The figure ordered. Smoke billowed about the
two Pokémon. Ash coughed.
"Pikachu! Thunder Bolt!" He shouted. Sparks came from the Electric
Pokémon's cheeks.
"Pika...CHUU!" It shouted. The smoke vanished. The five trainers could
all see the Pokémon now. Ash smiled.
"This'll be easy! Pikachu, Agility!" He commanded. Pikachu ran towards
Quilava and tackled him. The Pokémon was knocked out. The smaller
figure nodded. Quilava returned to its Pokeball. The figure held out a
hand.
~My name is Carol. It is a pleasure to meet you, Ash Ketchum. Rumors
of your deeds have traveled far. They have...amused me, to say the
least. I am impressed though. I envisioned an adult.~ She said. Ash
shook her hand.
"It's nice to meet a fan. So, why are you here? You want an autograph
or something?" He asked. Misty sighed. Carol shook her head.
~I wish it were as simple. The tales of your deeds have invoked us to
ask for your help. We ask of you to lift a curse.~ She replied. Ash
blinked.
"A curse?" He asked. Carol kneeled down and lifted Pikachu up.
~ A curse upon the Pokémon themselves.~ She explained. Everyone
blinked. Carol looked at Ash and his friends. She patted Pikachu's
head. Her friend nodded once more.
~Perhaps, it would be best if we discussed this someplace other than
the immediate area.~ She told them.
"We can go to Professor Oak." Ask suggested. Carol nodded, and Ash led
the way. Brock looked back at Carol and her friend. They seemed to be
having a conversation.
"So, where are you from?" He asked. Carol looked at him.
~I am from Saffron City. I am an orphan in this world. My partner is
my guardian.~ She explained. Unknown to them, they were being
watched...
"Did you hear that James?" Jessie asked.
"I did. I wonder what she meant by a curse." He asked back. Meowth was
the most curious.
"Let's find out!" He demanded and ran after them. Jessie and James
followed.
~We have visitors...~ Carol silently told her partner. He looked at
her.
~Shall I dispose of them?~ He asked. Carol shook her head, sensing a
Pokémon amongst them.
~Let the Pokémon learn of the curse.~ She said, and kept walking. They
soon arrived at Professor Oaks home. Ash walked in.
"Professor?" He asked. He was greeted by a large Muk. It pounced onto
him. Carol jumped back, landing behind her friend.
"Muk! *Gag!* Get off!" Ash whined. Carol brought a hand to her hidden
mouth, and giggled a bit.
~This Muk is yours then? He seems to enjoy your presence.~ She
stated. Ash eventually managed to get up. He scratched his head,
blushing.
"Yea. Most of my Pokémon are like that. Except for Charizard." He
admitted. Carol nodded. She knew how difficult a Charizard could be.
Her friend looked to her.
~Yes. You are right. Perhaps it would be best to explain my presence.
The curse was placed by an evil psychic Pokémon Trainer. I was
incorrect before by saying it was upon the Pokémon. It was upon both
humans and Pokémon.~ She explained. Misty looked at Togepi and then to
Carol.
"What...?" She asked. Carol nodded.
~Many many years ago. Before anyone can remember, there was a Pokémon
Trainer who loved her Pokémon very much. One day, as she began a new
journey, she lost her Pokémon. All six of them. She wandered around
for years. Back then, both Pokémon and humans spoke the same language.
It created a close bond. This trainer became angry of the bond between
Pokémon and humans. If she could not have her Pokémon and the bond,
she would destroy the bond. She cursed them. Soon, Humans could not
understand their Pokémon.~ Carol began. Ash blinked. Team Rocket
listened in.
"All Pokémon could speak?" James softly repeated. Meowth was the most
interested.
~You see, we seek the few rare Pokémon who have overcome the curse.
Perhaps they can make the light of truth shine before the trainer who
holds the curse.~ She continued. Meowth blinked.
"Then...that makes me a rare Pokémon?" He asked. Brock looked at her.
"Well, Pokémon haven't spoken our language in Centuries. So the
trainer is long dead." He noted. Carol nodded.
~Yes. One thousand years deceased. But the trainers descendents held
the curse. We have come from the one who holds it now. Lynn. And Lynn
has a twin sister who seeks to defeat her. Her sister, however, is
unable to fight her. Lynn is cruel beyond words. She torments trainers
and Pokémon alike.~ Carol said. It sounded almost as if she spat the
words out.
~A defeated Trainer will be transformed into a Pokémon. The Pokémon
they are most like. The Pokémon will either be forced into her cruel
mazes or forced into the wild to fend for themselves. She enjoys
throwing infant Pokémon into the harsh wilderness to watch them slowly
die of starvation. My Partner and I...we barely managed to escape.~
Carol admitted. Misty, Brock, and Ash looked horrified. Even Team
Rocket couldn't imagine being THAT cruel!
"Those poor Pokémon..." Misty said, hugging Togepi.
~I sensed a Pokémon earlier who has overcome the curse. We would like
to invite it and its trainers to help us.~ Carol told them. Her
partner sharply turned his head towards her.
~I know it is not wise to allow them, but the Pokémon has a right to
know.~ Carol assured him. He did nothing more. Carol turned her head
to the window, where Team Rocket was.
~It is okay. Please join us. I sense your presence. You are not
enemies.~ She called to them. Both Jessie and James stood up. Ash
jumped up.
"Ugh! It's Team Rocket!" He shouted. Carol raised a hand, silencing
Ash. She stood and walked to the window, spotting Meowth. She lifted
him into her arms, and began to scratch his ears. The talking Pokémon
began to purr in delight. The two teenagers climbed in through the
Window and sat down, keeping their distance from Ash and his friends.
"Meeeowth." Meowth purred. Carol giggled.
~I love all Pokémon. When I was a child I wanted nothing more than to
be a Pokémon doctor. Like Nurse Joy. Or an officer, and stop people
from hurting Pokémon, like Officer Jenny. But my journey led me to
Lynn. I had never felt hatred until I heard of her deeds.~ Carol
admitted.
"Um, on a scale of one to ten, how cruel can she be?" Jessie asked.
~A scale of one to ten? There is no number to rank the height of her
evil psychic powers. She cannot be defeated.~ Carol said with great
reluctance. A new voice popped up.
"Well, I'll bet I could defeat her!" Ash growled and looked up.
"Gary!" He said. Gary Oak laughed.
"Hey loser. So what's I hear about a master Trainer?" He asked. Carol
looked to him.
~You will not be able to defeat Lynn.~ She simply stated. Gary snorted
and left.
~His arrogance will be his undoing. So Ash Ketchum, will you help us?~
Carol asked. Ash smiled.
"You bet!" He shouted.
