“Why don't you want to go?” Lance frowned.
Red sighed as she flopped down next to her boyfriend. “Lance… if I go out there, everyone will know I'm a girl, not just you.”
Lance half-smiled. “Well… that is unfortunate, yes, but wouldn't it deter your fangirls?”
“I'm afraid I'd get swamped by fanboys, and that would be worse.” The Champion said. “Besides, I get the feeling that you just want to see me in a bikini.”
“I think it would be fine if you wore a t-shirt and shorts.” Lance said reasonably. “Besides, only the other Elite Four from Hoenn and Johto will be there, so you won't have to worry about the press.”
“Really?”
“Really.” Lance reassured her. “But I won't force you.”
“Thanks, Lance.” She hugged him tightly, and then went to change.

Three hours later, chicken and hamburger patties were sizzling on a grill manned by none other than Bruno, and Red, Karen, Lance and Lorelei were busy playing volleyball against Glacia, Will, Sydney and Steven.
Phoebe was tanning and Agatha had opted not to come. After a few minutes, when Glacia scored a particularly good spike against the other team, the game came to an end.
Red grinned as she wiped sweat out of her eyes. “Burgers done yet, Bruno?” She asked.
The fighting type trainer inspected the meat critically. “Another two minutes.” He grunted. Red smiled, and went to splash in the water. As long as she wore shorts and a t-shirt, she was still flat enough to pass as a boy. She secretly hoped never to become huge-bosomed like some of the other gym leaders.
Lance came over, and they water fought each other until they were both soaked. The others didn't join in, finding it too childish, though Lorelei and Glacia took off into the distance, racing Dewgong against Walrein.
Afterwards, Lance wrapped her in a thick towel to hide any hint of figure, and then they sat on beach chairs and ate hamburgers while Bruno brooded quietly.
What was he so upset about anyways? Perhaps it was because this activity could be considered frivolous - he probably wanted to be off training in the mountains. Boring…

She fell asleep in Lance's arms, and woke up a few hours later to find the beach deserted. Lance was a few yards off, watching his dragons frolic in the surf.
“Did everyone else leave already?”
Lance nodded. “They had to go back to work.”
“That bites.” She shivered, her clothing was pretty damp and now that the sun was low on the horizon, the winds were picking up. “Can we go home now?”
“Sure.”
He kissed her, just a quick peck, and they flew back on Dragonite. Red had to reflect that things could have gone a lot worse, so she simply grinned and said nothing, until they lounged in the spa together and relaxed, so she could kiss him properly
