Onegai, review~

The Light and Dark

Akane stood up, facing the setting sun. A breeze caressed her dark
blue hair and whipped her white dress around her lithe body. She sang
to the winds, compelling them to become one with her. Joyfully, her
head was tilted back as she laughed into the dancing wind. At times
like this, she could forget everything and become Akane, the blessed
Child of the Wind and the Angel of the Water. Her worries, sorrows and
duty faded into the background, muffled by the running water and the
streaming wind. Aeril was perched upon her shoulder, her bright yellow
eyes blinking lazily. She spread her wings and plunged into the sky,
becoming one with the dancing winds. Suddenly alert, Akane's golden
eyes snapped open and she tensed slightly, her muscles ready to
spring. Then her stance relaxed as she recognized the aura behind her.

"Tsuki."

"Akane."

The solemn warrior guardian stepped into her view. His elegant
features stoic as always.

"What is wrong, Tsuki? Is Ryo-chan in trouble again?"

"Iie... I was just worried about you."

Akane's eyes widened in slight surprise. Tsuki never openly expressed
his feelings.

"Honto ne? I will think nothing made you worry!"

Akane teasingly giggled. But Tsuki's reaction was unexpected. He
tensed slightly and eyes darkening slightly, he murmured, "You don't
know just how much."

Akane stared into Tsuki's ice blue eyes.

~*~

I worry so much, it hurts. It hurts to be around you, but if I'm away
from you, that's when the pain is at the greatest. With you, I feel
like laughing and crying at the same time. I want to hold you and keep
you safe, yet I am helpless to stop your grief. Sorrow follows your
path, but I can do nothing. Akane, do you know how much I think about
you. Ever since I first saw you, I felt a fluttering in my chest. The
place where my heart was supposed to be. I want to see you smile, your
carefree, warm smile that lights up the dark night. But as time goes
by, you smile less and less... I want to cry out in pain. I want to
forever keep your face in that expression of wonder and innocence. The
darkness around you prevents me from so. For you belong to that
darkness. It is truly sad that I can never be with you, because you
are HIS. And I know this. But please, may I love you for a while
longer? Because I do not think I can exist without you... I am just
content to watch you forever...Even if you never will be mine... For
you are my love...my death and my life.

~*~

Tsuki silently stared at Akane. He loved her. It was that simple. Ever
since the first time he saw her, he fell in love with Akane. In that
split second when his ice blue eyes gazed into Akane's wistful golden
eyes, he had been drowning in them. Yet, he knew... As his duty as her
twin's guardian, his love could never be fulfilled. He still loved
her, though. Always and forever. He will love this sad, hurt sprite
until Death. How ironic... for it will be Death that will take Akane
away from him.

"Well, Tsuki, what is it?"

He jolted out of his contemplation and gazed at Akane's brightly
smiling face.

"I was just wondering what the Kuonji woman wanted with you. And why
is Ryouga so angry?"

Akane's expression dimmed and her golden eyes became hooded, turning
into a dark hue.

"She just wanted to use my Gift."

She spat out "gift" as if it was a foul word. Tsuki flinched slightly.
He always knew that Akane treated her gift as a curse. She despised it
with her whole being, yet she was compelled to use the power, because
Power calls Power. And Duty calls for Honor.

"Akane... I never did understand why you always despised your gift."

"Despise? Tsuki, you must be kidding. Why would I use it if I hate
it."

Akane tried to reply cheerfully, pasting on a fake smile.

"Akane, I've watched you all your life."

"I still can't believe that you were watching us all the time."

Tsuki shrugged indifferently. Every since he was eight years old,
eleven years ago, he had been chosen out of his peers to guard one of
the twins. Of course, he still recalled the fateful day...

~*~

Tsuki gazed down at the beautiful round ball. It was magnificent with
splashes of green and blue, much different from his homeland, the
moon.

"Ma, what is that planet called."

"That, Tsuki, is Earth."

"What a pretty planet."

"Hai, my son."

Tsuki didn't know why his mother looked so sad. He was eight years old
and intelligent for his age. People around him whispered about the
young boy with the unique talents. All his people were...talented in a
certain way, but it was rumored that this young boy's talents were
special, that he will become a greater Lunarian. That he was part of
the Legend. His parents loved him to death, yet there always was a
certain wistful sadness in their eyes. Their only son, who was to be
great and be doomed by the Legend... who was part of the greatest,
eternal Legend...Today will be the beginning.

"Neo-sama. He has come."

A maid's voice rang out, startling the mother and son.

"Are you sure it's him?"

His mother's voice was filled with silent panic, anxiety and deep
sorrow. Tsuki's pale blue eyes worriedly glanced at his mother.

"Ma, are you all right?"

"Of course, dear. I-I'm fine. Can you notify Master Neo, Kimi?"

"Hai, Neo-sama."

Somehow, Tsuki felt as if Kimi's eyes on him were sad. He was about to
run after the maid to ask her when his mother gripped his shoulder.

"Tsu-Tsuki?"

"Hai, Ma."

"We have to go somewhere."

His mother's eyes closed and Tsuki thought he detected tears behind
his mother's silver eyes.

"Ma, what's wrong."

"I'm fine. There's just somewhere we need to go."

A few minutes later, Tsuki found himself in the banquet room of the
Lunarian government. His curious eyes took in the magnificence of the
stately place. Suddenly, a tall man appeared behind the shadows. He
looked stately and dignified and carried himself with power. Tsuki was
awed.

"Is he the One?"

His mother clutched her child's shoulder tightly. His father held her
hand, his other fist clenching. The state Ambassador looked coolly at
the man.

"Yes, this is the destined one. Take him and leave. We wish you no
longer here."

The stranger's eyes flashed dangerously at the Ambassador's tone.

"Why, Ambassador. That makes a man want to stay in this pitiful palace
you call your government. It makes me actually want to associate
myself with low-lives like the Lunarians. No offense to you, that is."

The Ambassador turned red at the stranger's derogatory comments, but
he held himself in control.

"Think what you wish, Tendo-sama. Of course, if you wish to stay, we
have no choice to comply to your wishes, do we? After all, we are just
measly Lunarians while you are a great Kami!"

"Hmph, you sound bitter about it. But you do realize, power wins
everything."

"Ha. But it didn't win your children, did it?"

In a flash, Tendo had his hands around the Ambassador's throat.

"Oh, you do realize," Tendo said silkily, "As a Kami, I can wipe your
measly being out of this realm and send you to the underworld with no
consequences, don't you? Now behave like a good little puppet and I'll
spare your worthless life."

The Ambassador nodded frantically. Tendo set him down, still glaring
at him threateningly.

"Get ready to go, boy."

"My name is Tsuki."

Tendo, surprised, turned to the young boy. His pale blue eyes were
filled with courage and pride. Unconsciously, Tendo smiled slightly.
Ah~ he knew there was a reason for a Lunarian to become one of his
child's guardian. He knew that he will like this young fellow. His
voice turned soft.

"Tsuki, you say? Well, Tsuki, did you ever wonder why you were more
powerful than kids you age? Why even the Lunarian government was
afraid of you? I am here to tell you the reason, you see."

Tsuki narrowed his eyes in contemplation. He had to admit that he was
always curious about his unique abilities. Why he was able to throw
moon rays around when all his people could do was control small
amounts of it? Why was he the only one able to create poison with a
thought? He glanced into the man's eyes.

"You are going to tell me the reasons? Truthfully?"

"I will."

Tsuki grasped the stranger's hand; that was the beginning of his new
life and destiny.

~*~

Tsuki blinked confusedly. In the past hour, Tendo-sama explained to
him about a Legend, a Legend put in motion by the Fates. He told Tsuki
that Tsuki played a major role in this Legend, that he was destined to
become a guardian of one of the Twin of Heavens.

"What I don't get is why you can't alter the Legend?"

For a moment, Soun Tendo's eyes darkened.

"Ah... we have tried, m'boy. We have tried very hard to alter the
destinies. But sometimes, Fate plans things out. And in this case,
Fate has planned out a Legend that cannot be altered or changed. It is
not possible. The best thing I can do is set the Legend according to
plan. It's a choice between bad and worse. What will you choose?"

"Neither. I'll create a good choice for me to make."

At Tsuki's statement, Soun smiled wryly.

"If only- If only that was possible. But the Fates cannot be swayed."

For a moment, Tsuki thought Sound looked incredibly lonely and
regretful. He shook his head; there was no way a Kami could be sad,
they had everything.

"Does this mean I have to leave my parents?"

Soun stiffened slightly.

"Yes," he answered softly. Surprisingly, Tsuki's face was calm and
quiet. He said quietly, "I figured as much... Can I say goodbye?"

"You are very calm."

"If I turn hysterical, it will not change my future, will it?"

"That's right."

"Then there is no reason for me to cry, is there? I will rather battle
this on my own. I will not cause my parents heartache."

"Ahhh..."

"I think, somehow, I always knew that I will leave my home..."

With that, Tsuki stood up and disappeared behind the doors to bid his
parents farewell one last time. After he left, Soun muttered sadly,
"If only she fell in love with you..."

~*~

For a year, Soun trained Tsuki. He learned to control the moon's rays
better and more precisely. He was given a rare crossbow shaped by the
metal of the core of the moon as his weapon. Day by day, Tsuki trained
to become the guardian of Tendo Ryouga or better known as Hibiki
Ryouga.

"When will I see him?"

"Tsuki, you are ten now, aren't you?"

"Hai, Tendo-sama."

"Ryouga is seven years old. It's their birthday soon... It seemed like
just yesterday when they pushed out of Kimiko's stomach. What a wail
they gave!"

"Matte- Kimiko is your wife, ne? That means... the Chosen Ones are
your..."

"Children. Yes, they are my children."

"Did it hurt?" At Tsuki's quiet question, Soun jerked his head up. He
knew what Tsuki was speaking of.

"Yes, m'boy. It hurt to see part of my flesh and blood being ripped
from my wife's arms to head down to earth. I lost my heart that day."

"Ahh..."

Tsuki felt as if he understood his enigmatic master better. He saw a
glimmer in his master's dark eyes until he closed them.

"Leave, Tsuki. I want to rest."

"Hai, Tendo-sama."

Tsuki turned around and headed towards the training room. He felt as
if he had to work off some emotion. Tsuki had always been quiet, but
after meeting Soun and discovering his destiny, Tsuki turned more
aloof and distant. It was just the way he grew up to be. The purpose
of his life and turned to being part of the Legend. It was the way it
was.

~*~

Few weeks later, Soun called Tsuki into the library.

"Tsuki, my son and daughter suffered a great loss. It is your time."

"Hai, my lord."

"My daughter met her guardian. It is your turn to go and protect my
son. This is what you trained for. And do not forget, never mention
the Legend!"

"Hai, my lord."

Tsuki left the room, ready to leave for his new home, when Soun spoke
quietly.

"Tsuki... you know that I am fond of you, no? That I think of you as a
son?"

Tsuki paused slightly, he turned around and said, "Hai... Tendo-san."

"I am very grateful."

"No. I am the grateful and honored one."

Tsuki left the room, his lips curving into a faint smile. Soun looked
into the burning fire.

"Ahh... Kimiko. What burdens the Legend place on young shoulders. I
liked that young boy, too. And I am sending him to his doom... I wish
it wasn't so."

The flames didn't answer him back.

~*~

Tsuki snapped out of his reverie. Akane was waving her hand in front
of his face.

"Tsuki, what are you thinking of."

"Nothing of importance."

Tsuki smiled softly. Yes, that was the past. Now he found Akane, he
understood more of his destiny. He will give his life to protect her
and her brother.

"Nothing important."

He softly brushed Akane's soft cheeks and stared into her golden eyes.
He saw his whole future in them.

Behind them, a dark figure cloaked himself with darkness. Soun's eyes
followed the Lunarian's every movement. Yes, he had been right. He had
sent Tsuki into his doom. "Ahh... m'boy, forgive me."

~*~

Another pair of eyes were following the two figures.

Those two emit such power. Especially the girl. Lord Ranma will like
to hear of this.

Nabiki vanished into the night, blissfully unaware that she was
putting a great Legend into motion. She didn't know that she just saw
her younger sister for the first time.

~*~

"Finally... Light and Dark will clash."

The old crone's eyes followed the moon.

"Judgment shall begin."

~*~

Hehe... gomen, but Ranma isn't going to really come into the story
until two chapters later, because I'm going to make this fic into a
long one and there are many characters in the story who take part of
the Legend. I have to give you guys their background. There are going
to be some side stories as well. Next chapter focuses on Morning Dew.
Just for your information, Tsuki is nineteen, Morning Dew, Ryouga,
Akane are all seventeen. Then the chapter after that is going to focus
on the friendships formed by Shampoo, Mousse, Ukyo and Kontansu. Of
course, there'll be side stories focusing on Shampoo + Mousse (There's
a surprise guest in that one!) and Kontansu and Ukyo (This one is
going to be more WAFFy than my other chapters). Well, R+R... flame me,
I don't care. Just REVIEW!!!

FYI: Tsuki's power is based on the moon. He can create poisonous
spells, he has crossbows with poisonous tips. He also attacks with the
rays of the moon. Causing instant death, sleep or he could hypnotize
the enemy, depending on his orders.

Morning Dew's powers are more on the defensive side. She could track
anything in anywhere. She also speaks with all living things. You can
call her an information bank. She wields a triton for a weapon. And
since Akane controls water, Morning Dew can only control bubbles to
encase the enemies and suffocate them to death. Just lovely, isn't it~
