Kyoto Farewell

Author's Notes: This is a poem from Kaoru's POV. It is the way she felt when Kenshin left her. I know I recently wrote a fic in Kenshin's POV about the Kyoto Farewell, but well, here's a poem in Kaoru's. Please read, and I hope you like it.

Disclaimer: I don't own any part of Rurouni Kenshin, of course. I'm not Nobuhiro Watsuki, or any other owner of Rurouni Kenshin. So, this is purely because I love the series and for fan and entertainment purposes only.

The assassination, you said,
Pushed away all doubts.
Shishio Makoto was the killer, you said,
I already knew what everyone denied was true.

Your departure was anticipated,
By me and only me.
My greatest fear sprang to life,
With your chilling words.
“This one is off to Kyoto.”

I did all in my power,
To convince you.
Battousai will not overpower,
Kenshin is still Kenshin,
No matter what.
You thought otherwise.

You smiled and your words,
Told the story of how you truly felt.
You wished not to leave,
But the government is in need.

A simple hug and Sayonara,
Brought tears to my eyes.
You told me thank you,
You said that you would drift.

Those were the last things,
I wished to happen,
I wanted you by my side,
To have and to hold.

I called out your name,
But you did not turn back.
Your words left me frozen,
Tears flowing freely
I was sure you had left me forever.

Later, I was told,
I was the only one you bid farewell to.
I came chasing after you,
Just to see your face.

Thousands of thoughts ran through my mind,
At our meeting.
Your gaze was unreadable,
As I imagine,
So was mine.

Furthermore, your eyes held,
An unmistakable fear.
You brushed past me, deep in thought.
I could only stand in place,
Unable to move.

When I asked you,
“Are you angry?”
You answered, “Half.”
My breath caught n my throat,
Upon hearing that word.

Then, you replied,
“The other half is kind of relieved.”
My heartbeat quickened,
At that moment,
I understood.

You needed us as much as we needed you.
You helped me through hard times,
I was your strength in the battle.
I cannot live without you,
Kenshin.
I love you.
