"Which one was it again?" the gentle-faced queen looked over the several
pictures lying on her lap and strewn about the floor, the turned her kind brown
eyes to gaze upon the man whom she had questioned.

"14-K6", Koenma smiled at the ruler of his neighboring kingdom. Queen Shiori's
magnificent patience when faced with the most trying situations was one of the
many qualities upon which his admiration for the elder woman was fixed.

Resting her eyes on the aforementioned portrait, Shiori saw her ally was correct
in describing the young maiden was beautiful. Long thick lashes framed the
dazzling twin emeralds that smiled up at the queen. Her skin, flawless with a
natural glow, was stretched nicely across a strong, yet softened face. But what
the woman liked best about the girl was her hair- the brown tresses were clearly
long, most probably down to her waist, and the silken curls were variegating
shades of brown, creating a beautiful effect because of it's high-ponytail
style. All in all, she was exquisite- a perfect match for her son in terms of
beauty. "She's lovely", her majesty murmured. : But are you sure she's the right
one for my son?"

This was the area in which Lord Koenma was most confidant about. "The woman's
name is Kino Makoto, a human girl of 19 years. Her intelligence level is quite
high and, unlike most of her kind, is not fearful of our demon race. She's
skilled in martial arts of various kinds, as were both her parents. They owned
several dojos, but were unfortunately killed by thieves some time ago. She now
lives with her five female friends in a home they purchased called the 'Moon
House'. Miss Kino owns a bakery and flower shop."

"Flowers you say?" Now this was interesting. "Is she good with flowers?"

Ah ha! He knew it would work! The man smiled. "Prince Suiichi orders seeds from
her shop, though he's never met her or spoken to her. All orders are placed with
her single employee, a biochemist studying to be a doctor by the name of Mizuno
Ami. The one who's won our alliance's Gifted Scientist Achievement award for
five straight years. And yes, Makoto is very handy with plants of all kinds.
Especially her roses. They're always the ones we order for special events."

The Queen's eyes sparkled with tears as she looked to her friend. "Thank you
King Koenma. You've done so much to make sure my son has a proper bride before
his 21st birthday. I can only pray that you comply to my last request- I wish
for you to bring Makoto to the palace. I'd be delighted to meet her and explain
the situation more for her sake. I may be the Queen and ruler of this country,
but I'll not for this marriage upon her."

Bowing to Shiori, the young ruler agreed to the queen's request and exited her
throne room, summoning the page to ready his carriage. The Prince was returning
in but a week and Enma knows his task must be completed before his arrival.

"UsaGIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!! !!!" The resident priestess of the Moon House
was fuming. Where did her bubble-headed friend get off thinking she could be the
one to finish off the rest of the gingerbread cookies?! It was a crime against
nature!! "Tsukino Usagi!!" She caught a glimpse of blonde hair from the corner
of her eye and wasted no time bringing the broomstick she held down on the
female's head.

"AHHHH!!!" Minako rubbed the giant lump that appeared on he forehead. "What'd I
do, Rei?!"

Hino Rei sweatdropped and laughed nervously. "Hah hah.oops. Wrong blonde."

Minako scowled. "Wrong blonde is right. Usagi's in the kitchen. Something about
chocolate and icing a cake." As she watched her black-haired friend run off to
the kitchen, Miss Aino gingerly rubbed the sore spot on her cranium and sighed.
She wondered if people could get extensive brain damage from being hit with a
broomstick. The Beauty Queen groaned. Better go ask Ami.

The previously stated female came from the living room at that exact moment.
And, as if notified by the gods, arrived carrying a cold compress. Smiling, the
residential genius handed it over. "Rei mistake you for Usagi again?"

"Yeah", Minako grumbled and rested the cooling cloth on her aching forehead.
"Thanks Ami."

"No pro-" She was cut off by the sound of their doorbell.

DING DONG!! It rang again.

Making her way to the door, Ami saw Minako enter the side door to the kitchen
and sighed. No chocolate cake for her today. As she opened the door, sapphire
met gold as her eyes connected with the man at her door. He was of average
height, and the first feature she noticed was framed by his perfect brown hair.
As her eyes traveled down the length of his body, she could tell he was of great
importance. Wait a minute...she knew him from somewhere.. The Alliance Awards!!
"Your Majesty!" Mizuno Ami curtsied, sweeping the skirt of her dress out as she
did so. "Won't you come in?"

Koenma smiled at her and entered the home, allowing the young woman to lead him
into a parlor. "I'll not waist your time with idle chitchat and will get down to
the point: I wish to speak with Kino Makoto, is she present?"

Ami blinked a few times before the words of the king sunk in. "Oh. Yes, of
course. I'll fetch her at once." All activity in the kitchen was cut off the
second Ami walked into the room, each girl sensing her anxious anticipation. "We
have, in our parlor..King Koenma, Ruler of the Northern Lands and Emperor of the
Spirit Realm. He wants to speak with Makoto."

Kino blinked at her statement and in a matter of seconds, was pushed into the
parlor with a tray of her own chocolate cake and green tea.

"Ah...Miss Kino." Koenma smiled at her; she was a beautiful up close as she was
in the picture. He accepted the lice of cake he was offered and when he finished
sipping the perfectly made drink, was knocked out of green tea heaven with the
remembering of why he was there. "As a citizen of this country and it's
membership to the Alliance you should be quite aware that the all Princes within
our Alliance must be married by their 21st birthday if they are human, 100th
birthday if they are demon/apparition, or 200th birthday if part of the spirit
animal race." He saw her solemn nod and blurted out the news he'd been waiting
to deliver for hours. "Prince Suiichi's 200th birthday is but a few months away,
and Queen Shiori wishes that you become his bride."

No ecstatic screaming, no gasp, no tears of joy, no noise or motion whatsoever.
Complete and total silence was all that greeted the Lord.

Makoto blinked, devoid of the ability to speak in the present moment. The
Prince? Marriage?

"Please remember that this is completely optional, but I ask, nay, I beseech
that you consider it. Without a wife, he is disinherited from the throne. And as
it is common knowledge, the Queen has no other children. That.could cause quite
a problem."

The young woman considered his words, and stood up, speaking as she walked to
the door. "I hope it isn't too bold of me, but I wish to consult my friends on
the matter." He watched in amazement as the door was opened and in tumbled the
other four women.

"No, it's fine." Like he had a choice now.

"What do you think girls? Minako? No..I know what your answer will be." She
smiled. "The same goes for you Usagi." A giggle was stiffened at the sight of
her youngest ''sister's" pout. "Rei? Ami?"

Rei crossed her arms. "Men, no matter if they're demon, human, or otherwise, are
all fools. But,"she began speaking in the voice she used for politics, "it would
solve a lot of problems and put to rest any concern of the Prince not being able
to marry before his appointed birthday." Grinning slyly at the king, she
continued. "Lord Koenma himself wouldn't of come down unless they were
desperate; you are truly one-in-a-million Mako-chan - I realize that and they
realize that. Makoto,...they need you."

"True Ami agreed with the priestess. "But the country and the Alliance aren't
the only ones who need you." She paused, staring her friend calmly in the eyes.
"The Prince needs you too."

"She hasn't even met him yet; how can you be so sure?" Koenma wisely put in.
Hmm.. this girl was indeed smart. Maybe he should make her his advisor.

"If the Prince were not still nursing his broken heart- the one he received when
his former wife died- he would have been interviewing our Mako-chan himself, as
it is he who will be spending the rest of his life with her. No, I believe he
needs a kind, caring heart who'll help him recover. Though, I warn you Makoto,
there is no guarantee he'll ever love you."

Kino let this information sink in a little and sighed softly. Damn Ami- she knew
one of Makoto's biggest weaknesses was for people with broken hearts. God knows
how many times she'd had her own. "Is this true, my Lord Emperor?"

The man smiled. "Yes, milady. Suiichi did, in fact ask his mother to attend to
finding him a suitable wife. After all, he only has to be married, not fall in
love again."

It might be heard for her to never be loved, but she had her friends, her
sisters, and nothing could ever change that. "Your Majesty?"

"Yes?" Koenma sat on the edge of his seat, anxious of her answer.

"I'll do it."
