Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ Never Leave Your Side ❯ Chapter 1

[ A - All Readers ]
Story #36 from Sailor DKC! Hi, everyone! I hope everyone’s enjoying
my stories. This new one I’m writing is going to be the second
trilogy to the first one, starring Sailor Mars and General Jadeite.
The first trilogy consist of the titles: “Something About You”,
“Could It Be?”, and “The Start of Something”. Read those first before
you start reading this new one so you won’t get confused over the
storyline.

The first part of this second trilogy is based on another drawing of
Paola Meija. I used one of her previous drawings in “Something About
You”, too! So when you see this *, I am describing the scene in this
story.
NOTE: I’ve used the DIC names for civilian titles and the regular
Japanese names for ranking titles, like for a general or princess.

Rated G and entertainment only. Have fun reading! I do not own Sailor
Moon, Takeuchi does.

Dedicated to Paola Meija. I like your drawing!

Peace.

NEVER LEAVE YOUR SIDE
By Sailor DKC

On the outskirt boundaries of the Moon Palace, the three Sailor
Soldiers and the three Generals stared in horror and shock as they
confronted the two intruders attempting to gain entry into Queen
Serenity’s home. The intruders stared back with such evil
expressionless faces.
Prince Darien and Princess Serena stood at the balcony, watching a
holographic widescreen displaying the scene before them. “I can’t
believe it!” Serena cried out. “Not Raye and Jedite!”
“But why?” asked Darien. “What turned them against us?”

Strong winds blew throughout the outskirts, fluttering the skirts and
hairs of everyone. As if on cue when the winds blew, the traitor
Sailor Soldier and her General love embraced each other.

* As they held each other, General Jadeite and Sailor Mars stared
back, defiantly and feeling the wind blow about them, making Mars’
hair billow up and down. *

“You cannot defeat us,” Mars said, in an electronic, toneless voice.
“We are under Queen Beryl’s influence!”
“Give us the Princess of the Moon, and we will not destroy the
Palace,” Jadeite demanded in the same electronic voice. All gasping,
the Sailors and Generals started talking.
“Give you the Princess?”
“Jedite, are you mad?”
“Raye, you can’t mean it!”
“Come back to us, Raye!”
“Jedite, you’re stronger than this!”
“You’re not meaning what you just said!”

“Oh, no?” they both said. Drawing apart from each other, they stood
within a foot apart side by side. Holding hands in the middle, they
raised their opposite hands upward palms up. Small balls of fire
appeared in each hand, and then started to grow.
“They’re going to attack!” Kunzite shouted. As the others prepare to
defend themselves, Sailor Venus felt tears forming in her eyes,
thinking, ‘How? How did this all started?’

FLASHBACK BEGINS…(a long one)

“Happy anniversary, my love!” Jedite said, presenting Raye her gift.
They were sitting on a park bench on Earth. “Oh, Jedite, thank you!”
Raye squealed as she unwrapped the small box. Gasping, she pulled up
a necklace with a ruby red Mars symbol pendant. “Ooohh! It’s
beautiful!”
Taking the necklace, Jedite clasped it around her neck. “It looks
more beautiful when you’re wearing it.” And he leaned over to give
her cheek a kiss.
“I’ll never take it off, darling! Oh, here’s your present!” She gave
him a wrapped small box as well. “Happy anniversary!”
“Hmmm, I wonder what this is,” he said, smugly, unwrapping it. He
sighed contentedly. “Ah, sweetheart, I love it. Thank you!” He held
up the jadeite stone pin. “It’s great! I won’t take it off either.”
Taking the pin, she pinned it on his uniform collar. “I thought it
would make you more debonair!”
Laughing, he watched her as she straightened his collar. When she was
done, he smoothed her hair. “Remember when we first met?”
Nodding, she caressed his chin with her finger. “I rescued you as
Sailor Mars, but I didn’t know you were one of the Guardians of the
Earth. You were you, Jedite.”
“And you were you, Raye, when I rescued you the second time we met
when I was General Jadeite.” He kissed her forehead and held her
close to him. “How I wish we could spend the day together celebrating
our two years of courtship.”
“Mmmm.” She snuggled in his arms. “Me, too. But duty calls. We’re
very close in winning this struggle over Beryl’s forces. We have to
go to the meeting at your Prince’s castle so we can plan some
strategies.”
“The other Generals and your fellow Sailors will be there also.”
Taking her hand Jedite sat up, pulling Raye with him, and they began
walking. “Maybe afterwards, there’ll be time for a dinner and a
show?”
Raye held onto his arm, leaning her head against his shoulder. “I
don’t care where we go as long as we’re together.”

In the Royal Discussion Chamber, the Prince listened to the report of
Princess Amy of Mercury. “Lord Zoicite and I managed to find what we
believe is the secret location of where Beryl gets her power.” Taking
out her small Mercurian computer, she connected its modem to a
hologram projector. Turning it on, she presented a global image of
the Earth. Maximizing it to the area of the Prince’s kingdom, she
pointed out red dots blinking in some places. “These are the random
attacks on Earth by Beryl for the past two years.” Then Amy changed
the Earth image into the Moon image and zoomed to the Moon Kingdom
area. “And these are the attacks on the Moon.”
Zoicite pointed out the indicating arrows leading from the blinking
red dots. “These arrows are high levels of energy that we detected
leading from the attack sites and head back to the source of origin.”
A new image appeared in place of the Moon showing both the Moon and
the Earth side by side. “There are arrows on the Earth as well
leading away from the attack sites. All the arrows from the Moon and
the Earth are leading up to the northern part of the Earth but are
disappearing around the boundaries of the North Pole. That’s where
the high levels of energy are cut off. We believe that the location
is somewhere in the North Pole region.”
“And in order to prove that, we need to explore the area,” Amy
suggested. “I advise that it must be done in our warrior forms.”
Darien nodded. “I’ll make it so. However, we will send two teams to
explore. The rest must stay to protect Princess Serena. For some
reason, she is the target for Beryl’s attacks.” Turning to Amy and
Zoicite, he ordered, “You two will make up Team 1, and Raye and
Jedite will make up Team 2.”
The Sailors and the Generals all nodded in agreement.

Around the boundaries of the North Pole, Team 2 followed Team 1 as
they tracked down the high energy levels with Sailor Mercury’s small
computer. “BRRRRR! I never realized it’d be this cold!” Mars yelled
over the blustering cold winds. She drew her heavy duty coat tighter
around her.
“Let’s hope these thermal coldwear will last until we find where the
energy is coming from!” Jadeite shouted back. Then they both noticed
ahead of them that Zoisite was putting his arms around Mercury to
help her keep warm. Smiling at each other, they did the same as they
stomped through the snow. “Clever idea he had, huh?” Jadeite yelled.
“What do you mean?” Mars raised an eyebrow.
“Zoicite trying to get close to your friend Amy. I’m sure you know
that they’re falling for each other.”
“Really? Amy would have told me!”
“Well, Zoicite never told me either, but it’s obvious to me!”
“Well, how about this? Lita’s in love with Nephlite! But she thinks
he doesn’t know that!
“Whoa! That’s the same with Nephlite! Only he thinks that Lita
doesn’t know he’s alive!”
They both laughed, then they heard a sharp beeping sound. Looking
ahead, they see Zoisite and Mercury waving at them. “We think we
found something!” Zoisite shouted. “Hurry up!”

As they ran after Team 1, Jadeite remarked, “It seems like all the
Sailors and Generals are in love with one another!”
“Not all!” Mars noted. “Malachite and Mina are so busy protecting our
royal superiors that they never noticed each other!”
“Who knows? Maybe they will!”
“You’re probably right!”
Team 2 finally caught up with Team 1 as they stood by a large opening
of a cave. As they all stepped in, they removed their hoods and
looked around. “My readings indicate that the energy source is
further inside,” Mercury said.
Suddenly, Mars tensed. “I sense an aura, and it’s a strong one.”
“Should we go further?” Jadeite replied.
“I don’t know. I can’t tell if it’s dangerous or not.”
“Let’s keep investigating,” Zoisite suggested. “If it gets too hard
to handle, we’ll leave.”
In complete agreement, they stepped further into the cave.

After a few minutes of walking through a couple of tunnels, they came
to a place which took them by surprise. It was the ruins of a city.
It was hard to tell how long it had been underground, but, by
Mercury’s computer readings, the city had been around since ancient
times. The readings then took the two teams to a temple, and they
opened its doors. They faced a staircase leading up. That was when
the beeping sounded faster, and at the same time the aura Mars sensed
grew stronger. ‘It’s more powerful here,’ she thought.
Excited by their findings, Team 1 started running up the stairs,
leading up to a large table altar at the top. “This must be the
source,” Mercury said.
“Wait! We don’t know what’s up there!” Jadeite warned as he ran after
them. That was when Mars felt AND saw the purplish energy surrounding
a black void. She flashbacked to when she saw Beryl kneeling before
the same void in an alleyway on Earth when she had her first date
with Jedite as civilians.
“STOP!” she cried out. “Do not go near that! That’s the-“

Suddenly, the purplish energy flashed brightly, making a loud humming
sound, drowning out Mars’ warning. Everyone stood frozen in their
spots. Then a ray of purplish energy shot out from the void and
slammed Mercury into her chest, knocking her down the stairs.
Screaming in pain, she collapsed at the bottom where Mars is and lost
consciousness. “AMY!” Zoisite yelled as he dashed to her side.
“Oh, no! Sailor Mercury!” Mars quickly knelt to her side and shook
her gently. Zoisite arrived and knelt down also, just as the purplish
energy flashed and hummed again. Looking up, Mars and Zoisite saw
another ray shot out from the void and headed toward them! But
Jadeite arrived first in front of them and formed an invisible
shield. The ray pounded on the shield, trying to get through. As he
poured more of his strength into his shield, Jadeite heard the
humming grow louder. ‘Something’s gonna happen,’ he thought, then he
looked over his shoulder. “You guys! Take Mercury and get out of
here! I don’t know how long I can hold this up!”
“Jadeite, we can’t leave you!” Zoisite shouted.
“Our duty is to report what we found! NOW GO!”
After a brief hesitation, Zoisite quickly picked up Mercury in his
arms. “Mars, let’s go!” To his astonishment, he saw Mars heading up
the stairs toward Jadeite. “Mars? Wait! Where are you going?”

Turning to look at him, Mars showed him her sad eyes. “I can’t leave
him. I won’t.”
He was about to argue, but then the purplish energy flashed again,
the humming got louder, and the temple started shaking. With a
determined look, he stated, “We’ll return to get you! Don’t you both
die on us!” As Zoisite escaped carrying Mercury, Mars walked up to
her love’s side.
Startled to see her beside him, Jadeite grunted as he struggled
keeping up his shield, “I thought I told you to-“ but stopped when he
saw the tears forming in her eyes.
“I want to be here with you,” she said as she joined her strength
with his by holding his hands. The shield held out a little longer,
but barely enough time for them to have their final moments together.
“I’ll never leave your side,” She smiled, her tears falling. She
touched his jadeite stone pin.
Giving her a smile of bravery and love, he touched her Mars symbol
pendant. “And I’ll never leave yours.”
“I love you, Jedite.”
“I love you, Raye.”
The ray finally pounded through the shield, enveloped them both, and
all went black.

Hours later, back at the Prince’s castle in the Discussion Room, Team
1 reported their findings and what happened to Team 2. “My Prince,”
Zoisite said, bowing his head in guilt. “I should have stayed and let
only the Sailors escape.”
“Zoisite, please.” A recovered Mercury touched his shoulder, and he
looked up at her. “Do not blame yourself. There was nothing else that
could be done.”
“Sailor Mercury’s right,” Darien agreed. “You did your duty, and you
saved her life.”
“What do we do now?” Jupiter asked.
Nephrite pounded his fist on the table, startling everyone. “What do
you think? We go to that temple and get them back!”
Darien nodded. “We must set up a plan quickly so-“ but he was cut off
when Kunzite burst into the room.
“Your Majesty!” he exclaimed. “I just received word from Sailor
Venus! The Moon Kingdom is under attack!”
“WHAT!” everyone gasped.

FLASHBACK ENDS

The Generals and Sailor prepare to face Sailor Mars and General
Jadeite as their fireballs were becoming huge. ‘The others came
through the transportation room,’ Venus thought. ‘Just when the
Princess was telling me that there were rumors that the attackers
were Mars and Jadeite. Through Mercury’s computer, we were able to
intercept when they were coming.’ Tears fell down her cheeks as the
traitors drew back their arms ready to throw their fireballs. ‘So the
rumors are true. But why? What happened to them?’
“GET DOWN!” Kunzite shouted as the traitors threw their fiery weapons
at them. The fireballs flew over the prone bodies of the Sailors and
Generals and struck on the ground behind them. The intense blast
threw all of them forward, screaming and landing a few feet before
the traitors. Still holding hands, they smiled evilly at each other.
“Shall we finish them off?” Mars stated, sweetly, in her electronic
voice.
“Yes, let’s.” Jadeite snickered, electronically. “Then we’ll go get
the Princess.” As they looked down on their fallen former comrades,
they raised their hands to create another pair of fireballs. The
Generals and Sailors managed to lift their heads and give them pained
‘Why?’ looks.
Suddenly, there was a rhythmic sound of sparkling waves. Mars and
Jadeite looked up to see a starry blast of power slam right into
them! Shrieking in pain, they were knocked down away from everyone.
They landed on their backs, unconscious and still holding hands. The
others managed to sit up or get on their knees. Kunzite breathed hard
as he grunted, “Who did that?”
“I believe…,” Venus panted. “…it came from the Moon Palace.”

Prince Darien and Princess Serena stared in awe and shock at the
person beside them who just saved the Guardians of the Earth and the
Sailor Soldiers. As she looked outward from the balcony, she lowered
her Moon Scepter which held the legendary Silver Imperium Crystal.
“Mother,” whispered Serena.
