OUR PRECIOUS GIFTS
By Sailor DKC

As Queen Beryl caressed the shoulders of the reclining
Prince of Earth, she was unaware of the awakening souls of General
Jadeite and Sailor Mars nearby. Then she stood up and caressed
Darien’s cheek as he floated unconscious. “I will try again to
recapture the Silver Imperium Crystal and once Metallia has it, you
are mine forever!” Sighing contentedly, she left. The moment she was
gone, the purple aura holding the two souls began to lessen its glow,
and as it did, both Jadeite’s and Mars’ eyelids fluttered until the
glow was gone, and they finally opened their eyes. Each looked around
their surroundings in confusion of the small altar room until they
laid their eyes on the Prince. Gasping, they suddenly turned to each
other from the sound of their noises.
“Jedite!”
“Raye!”
They moved toward each other to embrace but were surprised
to find each other dissolving into one another and ended up whole in
the previous one’s position!

“What happened?” Raye asked in an echoing tone.
“I don’t know,” Jedite replied, in the same tone. “The
last thing I remember is when we went to the Northern boundaries on
Earth in this temple underground some ruins.”
“Yes! I remember! We were holding up your shield barrier
in order to let Mercury and Zoisite escape.” She looked down at the
slumbering Prince. “Why is he here as well?”
Shaking his head and shrugging his shoulders, Jadeite
floated forward and reached out his hand. “Maybe I can try and wake
him- [ELECTRIC SHOCK!!!!!!!!!!] Ow!” They both jumped back,
astounded, then he moved forward again. “A barrier of sorts,” he
concluded. “Whoever is holding us set up this spell to make sure we
don’t escape.”
Sighing, Mars settled down on her altar. “How are we
suppose to help him with our present state?” The moment her feet
touched the Mars symbol pendant, she felt a warm sensation starting
at the bottom. Looking down, she saw through her ghostly state that
her pendant was glowing red. “Jedite, look!”
After seeing what she saw, he also looked down and saw his
jadeite pin glowing a bright green. As if drawn to it like a magnet,
the couple reached down and touched their precious gifts.

FLASH! (a very huge bright light)

The spirits of Jadeite and Mars found themselves in a
large ballroom where everyone was dancing and having a good time. It
was a masquerade ball for everyone wore masks. Some held masks to
their eyes with handles. The couple were about to ask someone where
they are when that person walked right through them! They stared at
receding person walk on as if he didn’t notice them there at all. It
came to the conclusion to the general and the senshi that they both
cannot be seen, heard, or felt!
“I guess we are ghosts,” Raye echoed. “But why are we
here?”
“This place looks familiar,” Jedite echoed back,
wondering. “I feel like we’ve been here before.”
Gasping, she pointed in a direction which he followed. He
gasped also as he saw himself walking around wearing a gray mask and
a white cape, in his general’s uniform! “That’s me!” he exclaimed.
“But how could I be there if I’m here?”
“I think I know!” she proclaimed. “If I’m right, I’m here,
too! This is when we actually FIRST met. And it’s on the Moon!”

Jadeite then looked up towards a staircase which is the
entrance to the ballroom. “Raye, you’re right.” He pointed to the top
of the stairs. “Look!”
They watched Princess Raye walk down the stairs. She was
in her red gown and held a red mask with her right hand. Her left
hand held up a part of her gown to her ankles so she wouldn’t trip.
“I remember,” Jedite sighed. “It was a few days before we
actually met on Earth when you saved me. I was sent here as a spy to
find out who has been attacking our planet.”
Mars nodded. “Yes, this was the party of which I was to
keep an eye on Princess Serena because she was secretly meeting with
Prince Darien. At the time, we didn’t know who she was seeing.” She
looked at him, lovingly. “Oh, Jedite.”
“We met at the bottom of the staircase and had our first
dance together,” he whispered, smiling. They turned and watched as
the masked general approach the masked princess as she stepped onto
the last step.

* Leaning forward against the curved banister, the masked Jedite
smiled as he gazed upon the masked Raye as she looked around,
standing on the step of the grand staircase. *

Clearing his throat, Jedite spoke up. “Good evening,
milady. May I have this dance?”
Turning to face him, Raye responded, “Oh, good evening.”
She looked at him, observing, then smiled. “Why, yes.”
As they danced, she let him hold her waist as she still
held onto her mask. He noticed her looking over his shoulder as if
looking for someone. “Are you searching for someone?” he asked,
suspiciously.
“Well, um,” Raye started, hesitantly. “Actually, I, uh,
am looking for the Princess of the Moon. I hear she loves parties and
dancing. I’m hoping to catch a glimpse of her.”
“Huh,” Jedite responded, nodding in agreement. ‘She could
not be part of the attacks on Earth unless she may try to attack the
Princess as well,’ he thought. ‘I’ll keep my eye on this one. If only
I know what she looks like under that mask.’
“And you?” she asked, suddenly, making him jump. “Are you
here to catch a glimpse of her as well?”
“No, not really. I’m, um, actually…” he trailed off in
shock as he saw Prince Darien, in a white mask, dancing with a young
girl in a white mask, too. Her golden hair was done up in odangoes,
and she wore a pure, white gown. She looked up at the Prince,
adoringly.

But Jedite was more interested in his Prince than the
girl. ‘What is he doing here?’ he thought. ‘Didn’t he know it’s
dangerous to be here without a bodyguard?’
“Hello? Were you about to say something?” Raye asked as
they both stopped dancing when the song ended. As the dancers
clapped, he bowed to her.
“Excuse me, milady. I wish we could continue, but I must
go. I have an errand to do.” And with that, he disappeared into the
crowd.
Staring after him, Raye thought, ‘Charming and a good
dancer. I wonder if he’s the one meeting the Princess. If only I knew
what he looks like under that mask.’ As the music started again, she
turned in the direction of Princess Serena ready to dance with a
masked man in a black tuxedo. “Princess!” she called out.
Startled, the Princess looked in the direction of Raye,
and then quickly whispered into the man’s ear. As Raye pushed her way
through the dancing crowd, she saw a glimpse of the masked man,
kissing Serena’s hand passionately. When she finally reached her, he
was gone.

“Princess, who was that?”
“Who?” Serena asked, innocently.
“The man whom you were dancing with!”
“I was with no one, Raye!”
“Fine! Let’s go explain this to your mother!” As she
pulled her Princess through the crowd, Serena looked to one side and
saw Darien talking to a masked man in a general’s uniform.
“My Prince!” Jedite said, sternly. “You are risking your
safety by coming here alone! Where is Kunzite?”
“I do not need my bodyguards to follow me wherever I go!”
Darien replied, angrily.
Sighing, Jedite placed his hand on his Prince’s shoulders.
“Forgive me, your Majesty, but unless we find out who is behind the
attacks, it is not safe for you to be here. Come, I’ll escort you
home.” Darien relented, nodding, and followed his general. As they
headed out of the ballroom, he turned in time to see Serena looking
at him as she went up the stairs, led by hand by a young lady in a
red gown. He smiled at her, and she smiled back as they waved
farewell to each other.

FLASH!

The spirits of Jadeite and Mars found themselves back in
the small altar room, and to their astonishment and relief, the
barrier was gone. They floated to the still-unconscious Prince who
hovered in front of them. They held hands and raised their precious
gifts.
“It was the power of our love that awoke us and broke the
barrier’s spell. And now, from our trip to the past, we realized it
was our destiny to meet,” Raye stated as her Mars symbol pendant
glowed.
“Our mission, our duty is to protect our worlds from evil
invaders. Our strength and power flows through our precious gifts
that we gave to each other,” Jedite stated as his jadeite stone pin
also glowed.
The items both then shot rays of light which enfolded the
Prince. After a few moments, his eyelids began to flutter.

Back at the Moon Palace, Queen Serenity held up her
Crescent Wand, standing at the balcony. Floating before her was
Zoisite’s soul detector crystal which glowed brightly. Behind her
stood the other Sailor Senshi and Earth Generals, waiting in
anticipation.
“Since the traitors escaped with the Prince and the
Princess, my detector has been glowing brighter and brighter,”
Zoisite said. “There is still darkness in it, but Mercury and I
believe if you use the Crystal’s power, the darkness can be
overcome.”
“Once that is done, the bodies of the traitors will return
to the souls of Jadeite and Mars!” Mercury added.
“Will they appear here before us?” asked Nephrite.
“I don’t know,” replied Zoisite. “It will be up to the
Princess if she is conscious.”
“Meaning Mars and Jadeite won’t return until they find her
and the Prince,” Jupiter suggested.
Mercury nodded. “It has been their duty to guard and
protect our royal superiors as well as ours.”
The Queen stared hard at the floating detector. “Then we
must not waste time,” she finally spoke. Pointing her wand at the
detector, she chanted, “MOON HEALING ESCALATION!”
A blasting ray of pure light shot from the Crystal and hit
the soul detector crystal.

In the dungeon, Beryl smiled evilly as she raised her
hands. Purple lightning crackled from her floating orb wand into her.
As her power grew, she looked into the cell which held the
unconscious Princess, lying on a mat, and scoffed in disgust. “You
have no power to fight me, and without your mother’s protection, you
will be easily disposed of. And when you are gone, Prince Darien will
be mine!” Laughing triumphantly, she positioned her hands directly at
the prisoner, as they glowed purple, ready to strike.
Suddenly, she screamed in pain as a flying red rose
slashed one hand and pinned to the floor. Whirling and holding her
bleeding hand, Beryl gasped in shock. “No! It can’t be! You were
under my spell!”
Darien stood by the door, looking at her with pity. “I
never thought that one of my own people would be the cause of the
attacks on the Moon and the Earth!”
“I did it for you!” Beryl exclaimed. “It is forbidden to
love someone from the Moon so I hoped you would turn to me since you
cannot be with her!” Snarling, she pointed to Serena behind her. “But
you didn’t! And all because of her!” Tears of desperation fell from
eyes. “I had to do it! Don’t you see, my beloved Prince? You and her
were not meant for each other! It-is-forbidden!”
Shaking his head, he stepped towards her. “If it is
forbidden, it is way too late to correct it. Even if it means the end
of the Silver Millennium, I will never deny my feelings to Serena.”
Now Beryl stands between him and the cell. “Step aside.”

Her quivering mouth turned into a snarl. “No!” And at that
moment, the two traitors Mars and Jadeite appeared from the shadows,
placed their hands on the Prince’s back, and shocked electrical
lightning into him.
“AHHHHH!” He fell to the floor, unconscious.
Sniffling, Beryl looked at him with lifeless eyes. “You
are now mine.” Then she turned to Serena. “Now for her.” Suddenly,
the traitors began screaming in pain. Spinning back, Beryl watched in
surprise as she saw them fall on their knees and clawing the air. Two
bright lights were glowing from within them and spreading all over.
The evil queen’s eyes widened in horror and shock as she saw the
spirits of Sailor Mars and General Jadeite enter the dungeon and
floated to their evil opposites. “It can’t be!”
Mars and Jadeite floated into the traitors’ bodies, and
with one last scream, the traitors began to dissolve. When they were
completely gone, Sailor Mars and Jadeite stood there in their true
physical bodies, real and alive. Beryl’s hands glowed as she prepared
to attack. “No, I won’t give him up!”

“FIRE…SOUL!”
“ORBS OF FIRE…CHARGE!”
They blasted Beryl who slammed against the bars of the
cell and fell to the floor, unconscious. Mars then quickly blasted
the cell door open and hurried to the Princess while Jadeite tended
to his Prince. Their majesties were beginning to wake up.
“Quickly!” Mars said, helping Serena out of the cell. “We
must leave before Beryl revives!”
Jadeite slung Darien’s arm over his shoulder. “Even if we
do escape, we don’t know where we are right now!”
Suddenly, the Moon Princess began to glow. “Serena!”
Darien said, concerned. “What’s happening to you?”
Placing her hands to her temples, Serena closed her eyes
and concentrated. “It’s Mother! She’s using the Crystal through me.
We can use its power to transport! Come! Hurry!” She held out her
hands. Forming a circle, they all held hands, and the Princess
concentrated, sending a contact to the Queen.
Beryl woke in time to see her four prisoners disappear in
a pure light glow. She began to tremble, then she shook violently,
and finally, she raised her voice to the highest depth. “NOOOOOOO!”
And she beat the dungeon floor with her fists in great fury.

It was such a happy time when everyone welcomed back the
Prince, the Princess, Mars and Jadeite, especially the latter two.
Through careful detail, they explained everything that happened to
them from the time they woke up. And then they were told what their
evil doubles did. At first Mars and Jadeite felt ashamed and guilty,
but Queen Serenity assured them that what happened before was through
no fault of their own, and they shouldn’t blame themselves. With more
assurances of their fellow Senshi and Generals and the Prince and
Princess, the couple felt very relieved.

A few days later, Mars and Jadeite were standing out on
one of the balconies of the Moon Palace. She leaned against his chest
as her hands rested on his enclosed ones, encircled around her waist.
He hmmphed, “Some anniversary, huh?”
Sighing, she snuggled closer into him. “I’m surprised that
we’re still alive after all that.”
“I wonder how strong our love is.”
“What do you mean, darling?”
“Well, Raye, we were able to break off the spell Beryl
cast on us, and thanks to our precious gifts, we were able to help
Prince Darien. Could our love be really that strong?”
Reaching up to touch his jadeite pin on his collar lapel,
Mars replied, “Don’t forget that the Silver Imperium Crystal had a
hand in it as well. We were able to transport from the North Pole on
Earth where Beryl’s fortress really is.”
“Sweetheart, I know, but I can’t help but worry about this
greater power, more stronger than Beryl’s. I mean, from Mercury’s
readings, this power created horrible duplicates of us because we
were so easily captured. What if it happens again?”
Turning to face him, she slid her arms around his neck. “I
don’t know, Jedite, but this I know. The power of our love was able
to break Beryl’s power. Imagine how powerful it can be when all of
us, Senshi and Generals, and the Prince and Princess, and the Queen
go against this stronger power!”
“The power of love,” Jadeite whispered as he touched her
Mars symbol pendant and looked into her eyes. Gently, he bent his
head down and kissed her. When they pulled apart, they smiled.

Suddenly, Venus and Kunzite arrived at the balcony’s
entrance. “Come quickly!” Kunzite urged. “We have important news that
might be vital to ending this strife against Beryl!”
“Mercury’s readings indicated a greater source of power
preceding her. Rumors has it that this new power is called Metalla or
Metallia,” informed Venus. “We have to meet with everyone in the
throne room. Hurry!”
After Kunzite and Venus left, Mars and Jadeite looked at
each other and hugged tightly. “It’s coming,” he murmured. “But I
promise you like you did for me before. I will never leave your
side.”
“And I will never leave yours. The power of love can
withstand anything,” she murmured back.
And with strong determination, they pulled apart, held
hands, and walked from the balcony to the throne room.
