Sonic caught up with Knuckles in the lab. "There you are." He said, tossing a gas mask to Knuckles.

Knuckles caught the gas mask. "Sonic?" He asked. "What's this for?"

"Put it on, then I'll tell you." Sonic replied.

Knuckles put on the gas mask.

"Okay, Shadow is on our side now." Sonic said. "Some guy named Robotnik is who we're after. We need the gas masks in case he reactivates the systems and gasses us to death."

"Have you seen Tails?" Knuckles asked.

Metallic creaking filled the air.

Sonic and Knuckles looked at the door.

"Is that the metals?" Knuckles asked.

Tails crept into the room and sheathed his sword. "Sonic? Knuckles?" He asked. "What are you two wearing?"

Sonic tossed Tails a gas mask. "Gas masks. Put it on just in case."

Tails caught the mask and put it on.

"Come on, we need to go to the control room." Sonic said. "Nikós and Shadow will meet us in the control room."

Tails tilted his head to the side. "Wait. You-"

"I'll explain on the way." Sonic said.

Shadow and Nikós tore their way through an army of metal Sonics and made their way to Robotnik's private lounge.

Robotnik was waiting for them.

"I figured you would come, Shadow." Robotnik said. "But I am surprised that you fought the serum's effects, Nikós."

"I pulled the probe out of his arm." Shadow said. "Now. Do you prefer to surrender or fight the two of us?"

Robotnik pressed a button on his gauntlet.

"Your robots are destroyed." Shadow said. "I disabled your ship's engine. So, if you activate the self-destruct sequence, you'll be destroyed along with us. If you give us the keycard and the files to reverse the robotization process, Sonic and Knuckles might allow you to live."

Robotnik handed the keycard to Shadow. The files are on your tablet, wherever you put it."

"Come with us." Shadow said. "I don't trust you at all. Nikós, you lead the way."

Nikós headed out of the room, with Robotnik behind him and Shadow bringing up the rear.

Nikós picked up the tablet. "He did send it." He said. He handed the tablet to Tails. "See if you can figure this out."

"So this is Robotnik?" Sonic asked.

Shadow walked over to the computer and stuck Robotnik's keycard in the slot. "He surrendered." He replied. He deactivated the self-destruct sequence and changed the programming on the roboticized. "I ordered the robotization victims to go to the lab. They won't attack you, Tails."

Tails spun his tails around and flew to the lab.

Shadow jerked his thumb at Robotnik. "What do you want to do with him?" He asked. "Do I get a vote?"

"Going by what you did at the Chaos Emeralds mine, I'd say I already know what your vote will be." Knuckles replied.

"Eh… he ordered Shadow to do all of that." Sonic said. "In Knothole laws, he'd be executed for being a warlord. Shadow at least has a chance for mercy."

Shadow cracked his knuckles.

"A great chance." Sonic said.

Shadow ripped Robotnik's gauntlet off and walked over to Sonic and Knuckles. He strong armed them out of the room.

The doors shut behind them.

Shadow activated the gas release into the control room. "Reap the whirlwind, doctor."
