Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ House Guests ❯ A few weeks later ( Chapter 3 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Sonic shuffled into the kitchen to make coffee. “Three weeks.” He muttered. “Three weeks and they’re still here and being annoying. I can’t believe they can’t find a house.”

Sonic made coffee, then leaned against the counter. “That’s it.” He thought. “I have to kick them out. Well, at least give them an ultimatum.”

Manic walked in, humming. “Morning, bro.”

“Morning.” Sonic muttered as he poured coffee into his mug. “Why are you so chipper? Did you find a house?”

Manic frowned. “Not yet.” He said, sniffling. “Still waiting on the insurance payout and houses are too expensive.”

“So what’re you so happy about?” Sonic asked.

“I just got that song stuck in my head.” Manic said.

Surge, holding something in her hand, shuffled in. “Ugh, Cute stuff?” She sniffled. “Look at this.”

Manic stepped over to look at what Surge was showing him. “Oh, man, now?” He asked. “Okay, okay, we’ll be fine. We just don’t have a house yet. I’m sure we can get a place before the baby gets here.”

 Sonic spit his coffee out.

Surge furrowed her brow. “Manic, this is a thermometer.”

 Sonic sighed in relief.

“Oh.” Manic said. He laughed. “I can’t believe- ooh, a hundred and one? Should you go to the hospital?”

“No, just get her some aspirin.” Sonic said. “There’s some in my medicine cabinet.”

“Go lay down, babe.” Manic said. “I’ll get you your medicine.”

Surge shivered as she headed to the living room.

“Actually, I’m not feeling great myself.” Manic said.

“Great.” Sonic muttered under his breath.

 “What?” Manic asked.

“Nothing.” Sonic replied. “You need to rest too. I’ll fix your breakfast for you.”

“Thanks.” Manic said. He got the medicine and some coffee for Surge, then headed into the living room.

*

Sonic flipped the pancakes over, then stepped over to the toaster to put the toast on the plates.

 “Where’s our food?” Surge asked.

“You heard her.” Manic called. “Chop, chop.”

“I’ll chop you.” Sonic muttered. “Just because you two are sick doesn’t mean that you can order me around like I’m your personal butler in my own house.”

“Mhm, yes, it does.” Manic said. “C’mon, we’re sick guests and we’re family.”

Sonic sighed. “Right.” He replied. He plated the pancakes. “Manic, did you want your pancakes plain?”

 “Yeah.” Manic said.

Sonic brought the plates to Surge and Manic. “Your breakfast.”

 “Thanks.” Manic said.

Surge set her phone down. “Oh, thanks.”

 Sonic sat down.

“So we got the payout.” Surge said. “We’ll start looking at houses when we’re better.”

“Congratulations.” Sonic said. “Say, do you think you two can manage while I pick up groceries? I’ll pick you two up whatever you need.”

“Go ahead.” Manic replied. “You’re usually pretty quick.”

Sonic got up and left the house.

*

Sonic wandered around the grocery store, searching for the very specific brand of apple chips that Manic wanted.

 Sonic’s phone chimed.

Sonic groaned softly. “What now?” He asked as he pulled his phone out of his pocket.

Surge had texted him to pick up some saltine crackers.

Sonic sighed as he texted her an answer. “Fine. I should’ve made a list at the house before I left.” He said. He grabbed the apple chips and the crackers, then headed to the checkout line.

The lines were fairly long, extending to the aisles.

Sonic stepped into the shortest line he could find, which happened to be the same line Shadow was in, and waited.

 The line moved slowly.

 Sonic tapped his foot impatiently.

Shadow glanced behind him. “Do you mind?”

“Sorry.” Sonic replied. “Shadow, can you help me out? Surge and Manic are very demanding.”

“So?” Shadow asked. “Kick her and Manic out.”

 “They’re sick.” Sonic replied.

 “Oh.” Shadow said. “Go ahead.”

“Thanks.” Sonic replied. He eased in front of Shadow.

“So why haven’t they gotten a house yet?” Shadow asked.

“They’re making an offer on houses, I think.” Sonic replied. “They just got the payout today.”

 “I see.” Shadow said.

“I hope he moves out soon.” Sonic replied. “He’s been a royal pain since he moved in.”

“Takes one to know one.” Shadow muttered.

 “Hey.” Sonic protested.

 Shadow chuckled.

Sonic sighed. “I’m not in the mood.” He said, stepping closer. “You should’ve seen that movie he made me watch a few weeks ago. I still haven’t recovered from that one.”

 “What’s it called?” Shadow asked.

“Things.” Sonic replied. “But don’t watch it. You’ll regret it. It’s not even so bad, it’s good like Fungicide was.”

“I’ll try to look for houses online to help him out.” Shadow said.

 “Aw, thanks.” Sonic replied.

“Sonia would make me do it anyway.” Shadow said. “She would’ve been ticked off if she found out I didn’t let you cut in front of me too.”

 “Of course.” Sonic replied. “Thanks.”

“Eh, don’t mention it.” Shadow said.

*

Sonic walked into the kitchen with the bags of groceries. “Are you all still doing okay in there?”

“Yeah, but we saw Jurassic World: rebirth.” Manic replied.

Sonic stepped into the living room. “How was it?”

“I’m wondering if I missed something.” Manic said. “So there was an attack in a lab, people talking and going to an island, and then a stranded family. They all got stranded on an island, then things happened and the credits rolled.”

Surge shrugged. “That’s pretty much what I got out of it too.”

“I guess that saves me the trouble of having to see it.” Sonic replied. He walked back into the kitchen. “So how are you feeling?”

“A little better.” Manic said. “We need to take more medicine soon. We put in an offer for one house in our old neighborhood. We had been in it before. It’s really nice.”

“Why were you in it?” Sonic asked. “I didn’t think you all would socialize much.”

“I always wanted to welcome someone to the neighborhood with a pie.” Manic replied. “So they showed us around. They’re moving because of a job opportunity or something.”

“Well, I hope you get it.” Sonic said.

“Thanks.” Manic replied. “I hope so too. It’s a three bedroom, two bathroom place. It has a really nice window seat.”

“Sounds nice.” Sonic said. “I gotta put up groceries.”

 Sonic left the room.

“Sonic?” Surge called. “What did you get?”

“The pizza roll things you like.” Sonic said. “Crackers and apple chips. Oh, and potatoes. Do you want a baked potato or fries?”

 “Baked potato.” Surge replied.

 “Me too.” Manic said.

“Alright, I’ll make it in a minute.” Sonic said. He quickly put away groceries and preheated the oven.

 Manic shuffled in.

Sonic washed the potatoes. “What are you doing?”

“Going to the bathroom.” Manic replied. “Why?”

“No reason.” Sonic said, poking holes in the potatoes.

Manic stepped into the bathroom and closed the door.

Sonic put the potatoes on a pan. “So if we’re gonna watch a movie, can I pick it?”

“Uh, sure it’s your own house.” Manic said, walking out of the bathroom.

“Sometimes I wonder if you remember that.” Sonic replied.

“Ha, ha; very funny.” Manic said, walking out of the room.

*

Sonic was relieved that Manic and Surge headed to their room before he went to bed. He missed having time to himself.

The movie went off, so Sonic turned the tv off and got up.

“Great.” Manic said, voice muffled. “Can we offer them more money?”

Sonic sighed. “I’d give you the money, bro.” He thought.

“Okay, what about the offer on the other house?” Manic asked.

“No word on it.” Surge replied.

“At least there’s still hope.” Manic said.

Sonic headed to his room and shut the door behind him. “Wonder how much it’d cost to build him a house.” He muttered under his breath. He flopped down on his bed, then fell asleep.
