Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Out of the battle ❯ The floating island ( Chapter 2 )
Sonic, Sonia, and Manic arrived on the floating island and walked to Knuckles’ cabin.
“See? You’re breathing well already, bro.” Sonic said.
“But there’s nothing to do here.” Manic replied. “You know I’m a city boy.”
“Do you want to stay in the city and get sicker or do you want to stay here and get better?” Sonia asked.
“The last one.” Manic replied. “I just miss the city.”
“I know, but you’ll get used to it.” Sonic said.
The triplets reached the walkway to Knuckles’ home.
“Yo, Knux!” Sonic called. “It’s us, the Sonic Underground!”
Knuckles opened the door, then flipped a large switch by his door. “Alright, come on in.” He said. “Just try to stay on the walkway.”
Sonic, Sonia, and Manic carefully walked single file down the path.
“What brings you to the island?” Knuckles asked.
Sonic set his backpack down. “Well-”
“Let’s talk about this over lunch.” Knuckles said. “I made spam musubi.”
Sonia turned away and gagged softly.
“Aw, just try it, Sonia.” Knuckles said.
Manic elbowed Sonia. “One bite won’t kill you.”
Sonia sighed. “Fine, I’ll try it.”
“So he needs to stay with you.” Sonic said, sliding his empty plate aside.
“Of course he can stay.” Knuckles replied. “But I’m surprised. I thought he’d like to live in Mobodoon.”
“We talked about that on the way here.” Sonic said. “But we can’t go there for another year or until Tails perfects his interdimensional rings.”
“How’s that going?” Knuckles asked.
“Very well.” Sonic replied. “He’s made a lot of progress.”
Sonia and Sonic packed their bags.
Manic sat on the porch, drumming his fingers on the step as he watched his siblings.
Sonic sighed. “We need Manic, sis.”
“You saw how sick he was.” Sonia replied. “We can’t let him get sicker.”
“You do know I can hear you, don’t you?” Manic asked.
“Sorry, bro.” Sonic replied.
Manic got up. “Told you that prophecy wasn’t real.” He said, walking over. “I can’t fight if I’m stuck here or sick.”
“Do you think a gas mask might help?” Sonic asked.
Manic shrugged. “Never had one.”
“It should help him.” Sonia said. “We can buy one at the black market, I guess.”
Sonic and Sonia approached the emergency gear at the black market.
Bunnie happened to be running the table. “Hey, Sonia, Sugarhog.” She said, setting a box of survival knives on the table. “Where’s Manic?”
“He’s at the floating island.” Sonic replied. “So he has some respiratory issues and can’t be anywhere near the city. We were thinking a gas mask might help him.”
Bunnie pulled a gas mask out of a nearby crate. “I could sell you one, but there’s a problem.”
“What is it?” Sonic asked.
“The refill containers are about thirty mobiums each.” Bunnie replied. “You need those and they only last about… three hours. The masks are typically only for emergency use and not daily. They’re a bit hard to see out of, so I don’t see how he could fight with it on.”
Sonic and Sonia sighed.
“Trevor told me about Manic’s coughing fits. I wouldn’t risk his health, y’all.” Bunnie said. “If y’all really want to try it, I’ll sell it to you. I just know y’all don’t have the money to keep buying refill containers every time you blink. Sadly, we can’t give these things away.”
“Thanks anyway, Bunnie.” Sonic replied.
Sonic and Sonia walked away.
“I think Manic’s right.” Sonic said.
“About the prophecy?” Sonia asked. “Do you think we’re fighting a losing battle?”
“Yes about the prophecy.” Sonic replied. “No, I don’t think we’re fighting a losing battle.”
Sonic checked his messages on his watch. “Cyrus says there’s a Robotnik empire defector who wants to meet with us at the resistance cafe.” He said. “Let’s check it out.”
