Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Out of the battle ❯ The mission ( Chapter 4 )
“So this is our new ally?” Manic asked.
“Unfortunately.” Sonic muttered.
Shadow scoffed. “I don’t need you, your group needs me.”
Sonic looked at Shadow and opened his mouth to say something.
“Yeah, I know you’re allegedly the fastest thing alive.” Shadow said. “You shouldn’t announce that. You’ll fly under the radar if you don't draw so much attention to yourself. That stupid logo on your van is a dead giveaway on who you are as well.”
“I said that too.” Manic replied.
Sonic raised his spines. “Oh, and like you have any skills, Shadow?”
Shadow grabbed Sonic by his spines and flipped him over his shoulder. He moved so quickly to where Sonic landed, it looked like he teleported over.
Sonia and Manic gasped.
Sonic slowly got to his feet. “Alright, I give up.” He said. “I’m sorry.”
“Weakling.” Shadow said, walking over to Knuckles’ cabin.
Manic and Sonia laughed.
“He caught me off guard.” Sonic said, dusting himself off. “Did you see his shoes? Those are air shoes. He’s only fast because of those stupid shoes.”
Manic rolled his eyes. “Sure, bro.”
“So you think we can take out Robotnik this week?” Sonia asked.
“I believe we stand a good chance.” Shadow replied. “Rouge created a virus to infect his force field and security systems. Someone needs to activate it while we keep the swatbots distracted.”
“Why didn’t she use it before?” Sonic asked.
“One of those sleepers found her.” Shadow replied. “You didn’t wipe them out in time to save her.”
Sonic hung his head. “I'm sorry about your wife.”
Shadow nodded.
Sonic and Manic loaded their gear into the van.
Sonia slid her mini backpack over her shoulders. “Where’s Shadow?”
The triplets flinched as something scraped the side of the van.
Shadow walked over, rolling up the Sonic Underground decals.
“You ripped off our decals?” Sonic asked.
“Yes, you’re not keeping a low profile with this sign telling the world who you are.” Shadow replied.
“He does have a point, Sonic.” Sonia said.
“It’s not his van.” Sonic replied.
Sonia sighed as she steepled her fingers. “Sonic. It’s just until we do this mission. We can buy a new one.” Sonia said. “Please don’t make this difficult.”
“Okay.” Sonic replied. “Fine. Let’s go.”
“We have to wait for Tails.” Sonia said, checking her watch. “He should be here any minute.”
A golden light shimmered near the van.
“What is that?” Sonic asked.
A light turned into a ring shaped portal.
Tails stepped through the portal.
“Hey, little bro.” Sonic said, high fiving Tails. “You finally finished those rings?”
“Yeah, but I haven’t quite finished the interdimensional rings.” Tails replied. He handed Sonia a bag of rings. “Here, you can use these to get in the outside perimeter and back.”
“Thanks, Tails.” Sonia said.
“It won’t take you into the fortress until you take out the force field.” Tails said. “Or at least I’m not sure if it will, but I wouldn’t risk it.”
Shadow looked at the triplets. “Where are your weapons?”
“We have the medallions.” Sonic said, holding up his medallion. “They’re weapons and instruments.”
“If those instruments are also your weapons, why do you waste power by playing music?” Shadow asked. “You’re in danger every second and you waste power with your concerts.”
“You got us there.” Manic said, rubbing the back of his neck.
Sonia rubbed her arm. “It does inspire the masses.”
“Then use separate instruments.” Shadow said.
“Fair enough and it doesn’t matter right now.” Sonic replied. “They’re at full charge.”
Sonia pulled a ring out of the bag and tossed it into the air.
A portal to Mobotropolis opened up.
Manic put on the gas mask as he stepped through the portal with his siblings and Shadow.
Shadow led the way to the fortress. “He doesn’t know I defected. I still have my keycard.” He said. “I’ll use it to get us in. Then upload the virus into the system through one of the supercomputers. Your mom will lead the airships into the zone and take out his fleet.”
“Mom will be here?” Sonic asked.
“She coordinated this herself.” Shadow replied. “She’s an acceptable leader.”
“Acceptable?” Sonic questioned.
Shadow held the keycard up to the lock. “Rouge was a better leader.”
The doors unlocked.
Shadow grabbed Manic by his arm and dragged him over to one of the computers. “Get to work.”
Manic hooked his computer into Robotnik’s computer. “Alright, you didn’t have to drag me.”
Shadow led Sonic and Sonia to a cell block. “We need to free them before the air strike.” He said, holding his keycard in front of the scanner.
The cell doors swung open.
The prisoners rushed out.
“Hold on.” Sonia said. She pulled out another ring and threw it in front of the prisoners.
The ring opened a portal to the resistance base.
“This way.” Sonia said.
The prisoners hurried through the portal.
The portal closed after the last prisoner stepped through it.
“Let’s find Manic and go.” Shadow said, motioning for Sonic and Sonia to follow him.
Manic ran over to them. “The air-”
Alarms started blaring.
An intercom crackled on.
“Attention, all units.” Robotnik said.
Sonia pulled a ring out and threw it.
Sonic picked up Manic and Sonia, then raced through the ring portal as soon as it opened.
Shadow raced after them.
