A/N: First of all, I've been kinda lazy. Second of all, there's school. Plus since I'm in my senior year, it's bad. Oh well. You all can think of this as a Halloween special, but it wasn't written to be scary I warn you, enjoy, and I'll send out thanks at the end of the story if I remember.

Disclaimer: I don't own this stuff. Don't sue me. If you do, I'll track you down, and once I do, you don't want to know what I'll do to you.

Chapter 6: Ghost Mountain

17:30: In a mountainous region

"This place sure feels haunted," Knuckles said, "but there's no time to lose. I've got to find the pieces of the Master Emerald."

Knuckles could see mountains floating around him, a lot of them many feet higher than him. There were also some smaller hills around him, most of them connected with thin steel girders. `This is going to take awhile,' Knuckles thought.

*****

Knuckles had seen some weird stuff in his life, but this was the weirdest yet. He looked back to the sign that had an arrow pointing straight up! On the sign it read:

PUMPKIN HILL

MOUNTAIN RANGE

He now turned back to the lone mountain before him with pumpkins around it. The mountain itself reached to the clouds. Around the mountain there were pumpkins, some of which were being grown. Some, though, were jack-o-lanterns, and looked bruised, as if they had fallen a long way. Even weirder were that the pumpkins had weird faces on them, faces that you wouldn't usually see on a jack-o-lantern, and that they hadn't been grown by people or nature since no vines could be seen near them. The pumpkin faces seemed to each represent faces like being horney or constipated. One even looked like both.

Knuckles took out his 3 Master Emerald pieces and concentrated on them. He let them go and they each pointed to different directions, but all generally pointed upward.

`This must be a big mountain', Knuckles thought. He walked up to the mountain and punched it, making his knuckles hook in. Then he started climbing the mountain.

*****

Knuckles had been running for the whole day after the day of the Eggman/Rouge accident. He had remembered seeing something in her helicopter that gave her name, but he couldn't remember what. He slept for the night, and when he woke up, he ran around a town, trying not to draw attention to himself, and ran to where the Master Emerald pieces pointed, into a weird mist. In the mist he saw a couple craters in the ground.

Knuckles had ran about 30 miles to get here, because he just found something new about the Master Emerald, its pieces could be affected by sunspots. So a couple sunspots just happened to occur, and the last six pieces got thrown westward. Some probably went so fast that they probably got themselves buried into the ground.

Knuckles was climbing up and up, and it was getting really dark. Knux then took out a Master Emerald piece and tied it to the top on his head. Suddenly the piece started shining like a flashlight. He went up some 10 miles, but stopped when he felt a weird presence around him. Suddenly he felt something grabbing his hands and pushing him away from the mountain.

He looked towards the mountain, but suddenly got head butted and knocked out. A white figure came out of the mountain holding Knux's hands, and then while floating freely in the air and away from the mountain, let go of him and watched Knuckles fall the long way down.

*****

Knuckles was exhausted. He had been fighting both Sonic and Tails at the same time, and they had undoubtedly gotten better at fighting. A few more hits and he would be out. But at least his last attack made him drop that Master Emerald piece he had.

Suddenly Robotnik came out of nowhere and grabbed the piece. "Knuckles, you are still so gullible. This is a chaos emerald, and now, Chaos! Rise to so you may become stronger!"

Suddenly the water monster, Chaos, came back. He was now Chaos 2, but he had beaten him already though in that form. Robotnik then threw 2 chaos emeralds to him, and Chaos absorbed them, greedily. A bright flash came up, and then we were now witnessing for the first time, Chaos 4.

"I'm taking him down", Sonic said, "Knux, I know you didn't mean to start this fight, but right now we need to stop this guy together. And we got to show Eggman there what happens when he messes with our friendship" Sonic now ran off after Chaos, who floated into a pond with huge lily pads.

"Sonic's right, we can't let this get us down, and no matter what, we're still friends, so lets beat this guy together and show Eggman not to mess with us!" Tails said in outburst, then rushed off after Sonic towards the pond.

Knuckles knew they were both right, and he had to help them. But first, "Eggman… what a fitting nickname…" Knuckles quickly now hurried off after the others to beat Chaos 4.

*****

"Now I remember why we called him Eggman!" Knux said as he got out of bed, "How did I get here?"

The door to the room suddenly opened, "Oh, sorry, I see that you're awake now." Said a pretty squirrel wearing boots. "Hello, my name Sally Acorn." The squirrel seemed to be very excited about him waking up, as if she was expecting something.

"Well, thank you for helping me… how did I get here anyway?"

"Well, I came to get pumpkins for my Uncle Chuck so we can pay tribute the ghosts, I found you-"

"What do you mean by tribute for ghosts?"

"Well, a years ago, a gang of ghosts that loved to eat the Pumpkin Hill pumpkins were sealed away because they would steal the pumpkins from villagers. The ghosts were sealed directly into the mountain by using the church's power. But now the ghosts have somehow gotten an energy source that has allowed them to break the seal, and now they have taken a bunch of the Pumpkin Hill Mountains so that we couldn't get to the church or anything else. They said that unless we give a gallon of pumpkin juice a day, they'll take the mountains into outer space and we'll never see them again."

Realization dawned on Knuckles' face. `The ghosts must have used the emerald pieces that got stuck in the ground to cause all this. The ghosts must be well in tune with their supernatural powers in order to do this. I've got to stop them, this all my fault!' Knuckles thought. "I'll get rid of them, I know how they're doing this, and only I can stop them. Just leave them to me."

"You can? Uncle Chuck was right then!" Sally said happily, "You want to leave now?"

"Sure, the sooner, the better."

"Well then at least come down stairs first and get some pumpkin juice, it will replenish your strength."

"Ok then, let's go."

The two went downstairs, and came into view of one those old west bars. As the bartender was a hedgehog that looked a lot like an older version of Sonic.

"Hey ladie, you finally awake now? Let me guess, you want go and stop those ghosts, huh?" said the bartender, "Well, first you'll need to drink some of my Pumpkin Hill pumpkin juice, and then you'll need some more to get back on that mountain without being caught like you were before."

"I'll take it that you're Uncle Chuck?"

"Correct, now-" Uncle Chuck said while filling in a glass, "-drink some of this and you can do anything you could do before and then 3 times even more."

As Knuckles took the glass, Sally and Uncle Chuck watched in earnest. When Knuckles finally finished drinking it, he looked at them, with a new fire in his eyes. "I'm ready to take anything that comes my way!" he yelled

Knuckles started towards the door, but was stopped by Sally, " Knuckles, here is the extra juice, you'll need it. And, can you later, when you can, come back here with some friends of yours? There's some other trouble going on here that we need help with."

Knuckles wondered what she meant by that, but with all that the 2 of them had done for him so far, he couldn't help but help, "Sure, I'll be back in a couple days. Bye"

Knuckles hurried off, running as fast as he could to where he thought was the direction of the mountain. He soon ran into the mist that was there, but by now it was getting close to sundown. He ran up to the mountain base, and to keep his momentum, he dropped some juice at the base and then grabbed onto the mountain. It was getting close to sundown and he wanted to hurry. He climbed at a quicker pace than the night before, and when he felt he was about halfway up the mountain, he started hearing moans.

"Uh oh" he said, and then quickly dropped the rest of the juice to land at the bottom of the mountain. The moaning from the mountain soon stopped. He then went back on his way. He soon reached the top, and couldn't believe his eyes at what he saw before him…

*****

As Knuckles started running, he remembered that his knuckles couldn't dig through dirt this tough, so if any of the pieces were buried, he couldn't reach them.

As soon as he thought this, a light appeared in front of him. It had a greenish glow to it. He slowly walked up to the glow, and then he heard a voice:

"Don't be afraid, step in the light and I will help you." Said the voice. It sounded soft and kind, but also like a human. Knux still wasn't sure about trusting it though.

"Please, take this, it will help you on your adventure." By now, he would usually have ran his tail off, but something told him to stay. He then started to walk forward, and not under his own power! It seemed like he had lost control of his body. He walked right onto the girder in front of him very lightly. Something made him carefully walk across and jump onto the next hill. He was soon engulfed in the light.

In the light, two claws appeared on his knuckles. "These are called the shovel claws. They will let you dig through just about any kind of dirt, no matter how tough," said the voice.

Suddenly the light ended, and he was right on top of the hill he had walked to. Plus, the shovel claws were still on his knuckles. `Weird…' he thought.

Knuckles had to choose now to go left to a rocket or to go right to a rocket. He decided to take the left rocket; he wanted to check why he saw a cross in that direction.

Knuckles jumped and glided to the hill with the rocket, he didn't want to risk landing on the girder. He grabbed it and pushed down, and was immediately pulled upwards. When he got a little above one of the mountains closest to him he let go and glided to the mountain. As he landed, he realized this must be the church mountain that Sally was talking about. He felt a strong emerald reading here, around the gravestones. He searched around, and behind one of the gravestones he felt a reading that was stronger nowhere else. He started to dig in the ground, a little afraid of finding bones, but instead he found an emerald piece! "Alright" he said as he started to run to the edge of the mountain, but a ghost came out in front of him. He instinctively punched the ghost as hard as he could, and the ghost just disappeared as he punched air. He decided to go the other way, and looked behind a jack-o-lantern tree, to see a rocket pointing to the tallest mountain that could be seen. He grabbed it, and was sent wising through the air at a high speed, even faster than he could glide.

He let go and landed on the mountain. He saw that the mountain had a lot of pumpkins that could see while on the rocket. It was probably the infamous Pumpkin Hill, and he wanted to check it out for emerald pieces. As he got closer he felt an emerald reading so he kept going. He landed on what seemed to be a terrace of the mountain. He felt that the reading was higher up, so he jumped up to the next level. There seemed to be more pumpkins up here, but he still felt he needed to go higher. He jumped to the next level, and saw he was one level under the summit of the mountain. He looked ahead to where the reading was strongest and saw a big pumpkin. He thought the emerald was probably in the pumpkin, so he jumped slightly lower and glided into the wall just above the pumpkin. He was just about to look down on it when he felt the reading was stronger to where he was clinging to the mountain. In a second he was digging and two seconds later came out with the emerald piece. "One more left!" he said.

He jumped off and glided towards the last mountain. If the ghosts were following the same pattern as they have so far, then the piece should be on the last mountain, and should be high up. As he made his way to the top, he felt no reading. He looked over the ledge he was on and saw a 3-way train junction. He saw some rings and a switch also. He jumped and glided towards the ring box, popped it open, and got 20 rings. He then turned and hit the switch, waiting for something to happen to him. He heard something behind him, and as he turned around he realized that the 3-way junction had turned his way and a ghost train that seemed to come from out of nowhere was heading straight for him. He instinctively jumped towards the other direction and into the abyss, but didn't position himself well enough to go into the glide.

`Not again he thought,' but suddenly when he thought there was no way he was going to go back and that this fall was probably going to hurt more, he felt his emerald pieces reacting to his rings, and he was suddenly flung back upwards towards the mountain. He couldn't get enough height, so he landed under the mountain summit in some kind of construction site. In front of him were two spike balls swinging around a post. He quickly ran through them unscathed and felt and emerald reading finally.

Around him was a half-broken cross section of rusted, thick, steel girders. The emerald was somewhere in it. He jumped up and grabbed onto the lowest hanging girder and explored all around. In a small corner facing away from the mountain he found the last piece. "Yeah!" he shouted in victory.

Shaking started all around him, and then he felt himself losing altitude. "The mountains are falling back down," Knuckles said, "I better get out of here." With that Knuckles jumped away and glided father west, still not forgetting that Sally wanted him to come and see her later…

A/N: What could Sally want? You'll have to wait until my next story comes out to find out. I have started the Dark Story now, and the Hero Side will be put on hold until the Dark Side's storyline catches up with the Hero's. I thank those like pi2 who reviewed multiple chapters because I have been very busy lately with my studies, and teachers are finally letting down with their relentless homeworks.

Another thing, if you haven't yet, go read Fuzziness' story "The Chao Show" and Sonic19902's stories "College Days" and "College Days 2." They are SUPER funny.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add something. I rushed this chapter, so I had to skimp on details since I didn't have time to stop and play the level 5 times straight. In your next reviews can you tell me if you want me to lower the details. Doing this would lower update time, but would be little bit off of what I was trying to achieve in this story.

But if you really want it I'll give it to you because I aim to please as long as I can leave with dignity.

-Stupid quote that I just made up

Update: I updated the chapter again, because I was trying to beat the 4th mission in Pumpkin Hill and I realized that I forgot to add something about the way from Church Mountain to Pumpkin Hill. And the fact that there were 2 rockets at the beginning.
