A/N: Two things: I can't believe one of the shortest levels in the game, Metal Harbor, had the longest chapter yet. And I'm still considering starting the Dark Side till a couple more chapters but the more you want it the sooner it will appear… maybe…

Chapter 5: Face Off With Shadow

Last time on My Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Adaptation: Sonic made an escape from the island thanks to Amy and Tails. Sonic took care of the guards by luring them away from the others and baffling the military with his abilities and was able to make it through Metal Harbor with a new set of sneakers that could do a light speed dash. He successfully got himself back on the island except not in the prison but the forest, but he missed his rendezvous point with Tails. He remembered how all this bad luck was happening to him because of Shadow and low and behold Shadow appeared. He didn't seem to be having a good day either and a rumble may start so lets see what happens.

"Phew… so far so good" Sonic had landed in what seemed to be near the middle of the island. Below was what was like a small arena and up ahead looked like a path that leads south, based on the moss he saw on nearby trees. He heard a sound from the tree branches and looked up to see the black and red-quilled hedgehog before him.

"Hey that's-" Sonic started to say

"That blue hedgehog again, of all places" Shadow answered throwing his hands up, obviously not having a good day either.

"I found you, faker!" Sonic said while taking a step forward and pointing an accusing finger at Shadow.

"Faker? I think you're the fake hedgehog around here. You're comparing yourself to me?" Shadow said this in an all-knowing voice that was making Sonic pissed off. And he was continuing too. "Ha… You're not even good enough to be my fake."

That was the last straw. "I'll make you eat those words!

The two of them jumped down into the "arena." It consisted of a square platform with some rotting wooded guardrails that were set up around the platform but had some spots without any rails. The two of them started to circle each other. In the arena were 9 rings in a circle. Each hedgehog grabbed one so they could save the rest for later.

Sonic was mad at what Shadow had said about him and made the first move. He did a split second homing attack (when you press A to jump and a split second later you press A again). This surprised Shadow and he was knocked back losing his ring. Sonic grabbed it and tried to do a somersault into Shadow but Shadow jumped and did a homing attack on Sonic. Sonic lost his 2 rings but fell back on one. Shadow grabbed the other and somersaulted Sonic. Sonic lost his other ring which Shadow grabbed and then went back to the center of the arena grabbing 2 more rings in the process.

Sonic was mad and his anger was clouding his judgment. He realized this and also knew this is what Shadow hoped on. Sonic circled Shadow with a plan and grabbed the other rings. He then somersaulted towards Shadow and Shadow jumped out of the way, getting ready for his homing attack. As Shadow suddenly launched himself at Sonic, Sonic, still in his somersault jumped up and bounced back Shadow's attack. As Shadow landed wondering what happened he was suddenly hit with a face full of quills. Sonic quickly took advantage from this surprise homing attack Sonic grabbed his rings, but missed one as Shadow took that ring and hit Sonic with a somersault. Sonic immediately jumped into a homing attack and hit Shadow making him lose the ring he had just gotten. By then the other rings were gone from being used then neglected. Shadow grabbed the ring he just dropped and faced Sonic in the center of the arena.

Both of them were very tired from this, but Sonic was at a disadvantage with no rings while Shadow had one still. Both were breathing hard and were tired from the battle.

Suddenly a walkie-talkie that was on Shadow's hip came to life. Sonic never remembered seeing it there before.

"Shadow, what are you doing?" said the walkie-talkie in the unmistakable voice of Eggman. "Get off the island RIGHT NOW before it blows up with you on it!

"Blows up!" Sonic said, not believing his ears. (I mean what would you do if you were in the middle of a jungle island with all sorts of robot guards on it and you just found out that in a few minutes it will blow up and you may still be on it)

Shadow suddenly put on a face that seemed to show that he suddenly remembered something very important. He quickly headed east to where Sonic remembered hearing a guard say that that was where the vault was located.

`I've got to get outta here and find Tails and Amy right away' Sonic said while heading south. He figured he should have about 8 minutes to get off the island. He jumped off a jump pad that was on a nearby platform and flew through the air.

Stage: 05 Green Forest

Mission: Escape from the Island in 8 Minutes

Sonic landed on a pathway that looked like it was made of branches. It seemed odd, but Sonic didn't really have any time to speculate on how this could be. The branch was like a snake way, going down then curving up, as Sonic ran across it. At the end of it he hit a jump pad that brought him to the next platform. As he started to continue a Hunter dropped down to try to stop him, but failed miserably. Two more suddenly came down and Sonic homing attacked them both without touching the ground. Sonic continued on.

Sonic entered an underground chamber that seemed to be part of a tree. He kept pushing on and down until he hit a speed pad. He now went across a wide turn in the tunnel and until he saw a Rhino Spike. The dangerous thing about a Rhino Spike is that since it has spikes on its back, if you try to jump over it, it will move back to make sure you land on its back. Sonic somersaulted it quickly instead and went straightforward to touch a speed pad that lead to another set of sped pads that sent him forward and up until he got back outside. He quickly made a turn to keep himself from crashing into a rail and instead hit a jump pad.

As he landed on this next platform, he ran forward and light dashed on a set of rings for fun. The speed from the light dash sent Sonic up a curved wall and land him on a rail. The rail led him to a bumper he would have hit eventually. After hitting a bumper he caught a vine. The bumper gave him so much speed he went too fast to be able to land on the tree he wanted to land on next. The vine caught on a branch though and spun back towards the platform, this time Sonic let go.

On this new tree Sonic could see that he had to go through the tree to get to the branch on the other side. There was a passageway he could go through that had a couple deactivated Hunters and a few Mono Beetles. Sonic ran in and homing attacked 3 deactivated Hunters as they were getting up. Then he hit 2 Mono Beetles, then another Hunter, and lastly another Mono Beetle, which at the end of this chain he landed next to a bumper and did not touch ground once through the passageway. Sonic hit the bumper on the branch and caught a vine. As he was preparing to let go the vine got caught on another branch, giving him more speed so that when he was facing the platform again he let go and his speed brought him into another tree.

As Sonic landed he went through the tree quickly until he came out on the branch on the other side. He then hit a speed pad that sent him off on the tree branch that ended up being a loop-d-loop too. The thing was that halfway on the loop-d-loop the branch ended. Before Sonic could panic, his speed brought him to another branch that finished the loop-d-loop. Now on this new branch he continued until he hit a jump pad that launched him into a different tree.

In this new tree, Sonic crisscrossed collecting two lines of 4 rings. At the ended of the lines a bunch of Hunters fell down in ambush but Sonic was tired of these same enemies and was easily able to homing attack all three of them quickly. Sonic hit a few speed pads that sent him up to another level. He then ran into some more ahead of him that sent him up another half loop, and this time his speed sent him into some bumpers that launched him to the next level. Sonic was about to continue on but then heard a voice that told him to stop and turn around.

Sonic turned and saw some ring boxes, a Bomb Beetle, and behind that another platform. On the platform, though, Sonic saw what seemed to be a weird light in the same greenish glow that Sonic had found his Light Speed Shoes in when he found them in Metal Harbor. Time to investigate. Sonic walked around a log that was there and got ready to jump. He waited until the Bomb Beetle he was aiming for was starting to move away from him. He then ran, jumped, homing attacked the Beetle, homing attacked an item box that was in the air, and lastly homing attacked an item box that was on the platform he was aiming for. Sonic took a closer look at what was in the green glow and saw a small ball of white light. The light reminded him of how Tikal used to hide her spirit body in a small ball of pink light. That's when Sonic remembered the voice he heard didn't sound that much like Tikal. It sounded sweet and kind like Tikal but seemed a little more human than echidna. Sonic walked into the light anyway to see what would happen. The glow disappeared as Sonic stepped in and the light immediately flew into Sonic. Sonic then remembered he had to get going so he jumped back down to under the half loop and used it to get back up. He had to hurry and find Tails!

Sonic went back to the opening of the of a branch and ran through grabbing rings as he continued. The branch was hollow as he ran through and soon the top half was gone so Sonic was running on a tree branch half pipe. He continued on it running in the middle of it until he hit a bumper that sent him onto a vine that wrapped around a tree. As he spun around for a second time Sonic let go and landed on a small platform connected to a tree. Sonic jumped forward seeing a floating platform, dodging around enemies that were around him. Sonic then jumped to the stump of a tree, hitting a bumper that brought him up, into another bumper, and then running through a huge rose bush. Sonic then light dashed down a ramp, hit a couple speed pads, and then went across a full loop-d-loop branch. He then ran flat out across the branch until he got to a bumper that launched onto a platform connected to the tree. He hit a bumper on this platform, and this kept happening for another two platforms until he landed on some floating platforms. He then destroyed a Hunter that was activating next to him, as he navigated on the platforms. He jumped on another bumper. On this hew set of platforms, he homing attacked a Mono Beetle, and the rebound from the attack gave him enough height to hit the next platform and land on a branch.

Sonic decided to stop having fun and hurry since he had already wasted 4 minutes searching and hadn't found a 2-tailed fox or a pink hedgehog. He ran across this branch for a while collecting rings and making turns. He then hit a speed pad that sent him into a flurry of bumpers. When he escaped from them his legs got caught on a vine that slowed him down, and kept him in one place. Sonic struggled and the vine got loose. Sonic then was falling down to his doom when the vine stopped and started working like a bungee cord. While going back up Sonic was able to get his feet loose and jumped away from the vine onto the tree he was aiming for.

Sonic ran straight ahead into the tree. A bunch of enemies started to fall down and ambush him, but they landed on his spines as Sonic hastily cleared right through 5 robots and continued on to another vine. As Sonic swung on the vine he caught a glimpse of Amy's pink quills. He also heard what sounded like a bomb going off. Sonic let go of the swinging vine and landed on a platform that was sinking, probably because of the bomb he heard. Sonic ran across the platforms before they could sink in the water, but as he got across he had to make some jumps to stay with the movement. By the time Sonic got to the end he couldn't reach the platform his friends were on. As he racked his brain on what he should do, the platform he was on stopped moving down. He guessed it had hit the bottom of the river. Sonic saw a bumper ahead of him that he could reach, and jumped for it. The bumper led him through another flurry until he got o the top and landed next to Tails.

"Hey guys we got to get going and get off this island, it's going to blow in 4 minutes!" Sonic shouted for them hurry.

"Sonic we know, Amy found a bomb that we tried to use to deactivate the other bombs but instead blew up and caused that small earthquake. And Sonic you're wrong the island is going to blow in a minute!" Tails shouted in answer to Sonic while mobilizing the now Tornado 2. "The Tornado 2 is ready, let's go. You guys better grab onto the tail." Sonic and Amy quickly grabbed on to the tail and suddenly the Tornado 2 came to life and blasted off, spending barely 5 seconds on the ground until it was air born and on it's way.

Tails flew dodging branches and trees. It finally got an opening to fly above the trees and that's when the bombs started to go off. The island slowly lit up with explosions as Tails fought to get above the highest of treetops. He finally did as the whole island was on fire and then finally blew up with one big BOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!

In the air Sonic told Amy and Tails everything that happened from 2 days ago to now. Tails was wondering why Shadow went to the vault.

"If he's with Eggman, then Eggman must have another plan that needs the Chaos Emeralds. But I think they have a third person to help them since I don't think that in 5 minutes Shadow could have found which safes had the Chaos Emeralds. He probably went to go get somebody." Tails said for his theory.

"You're probably right Tails, but then we may need Knux's help in this case. Let's head back to that capital city and find someplace to stay" Sonic gave as his answer.

A/N: Well that's the end of that. A new mystery has unfolded and it seems that Eggman has two new buddies, one of which is still unknown to them. The next chapter will go away from Sonic and tails and go back to Knux as he finds his now lost pieces of his emerald. Now for the next up date will probably take a while to come since tomorrow (Thursday) I'll be going on a trip to South Jersey and won't be able to start the next chapter for a while. As for the Dark Story, I plan to wait just a little longer because of this. And also I'm trying to figure out why is it that every time I get a review it's from a different person. Why doesn't anybody review somebody more than once? I know that I do so why doesn't anybody else give the same courtesy.
