Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Sonic Underground Reloaded 2 ❯ Robotnik? ( Chapter 2 )
Sonic ran down the Mobius forest trail.
It was a cloudless night, so Sonic could see well enough without a flashlight.
As he got closer to a clearing, he noticed something shiny in the distance and carefully made his way over to the object.
He hid behind some bushes and peeked over the top of them.
An airship was parked in the center of the clearing. Two humans were standing near the ship and one of the humans looked very familiar.
"Robotnik?!" Sonic whispered. "How? He's supposed to be dead."
Sonic couldn't make out what they were saying, but he stayed and watched them until they went back inside the ship.
Sonic raced off to the palace. He didn't stop running until he got to his room and accidentally slammed the door shut behind him.
Manic and Shadow barged into the room a few minutes later.
"Oh, it's you." Shadow said. "I'm tired of telling you not to run in here or slam doors."
"You won't believe this." Sonic said. "I swear I saw Robotnik in the woods, by this big ship."
"You're right, I don't." Shadow replied. "He's dead."
"You're just saying that to keep Dad from knowing you're sneaking out to see Sally." Manic said, leaning against the door.
Sonic raised his spines. "I am not."
Shadow looked at Sonic.
Sonic sighed. "That was one time."
"Anyway, Robotnik's dead." Manic said. "There's no way you saw him and it was dark. We naturally don't have good night vision."
"I heard him too." Sonic insisted. "My hearing is probably better than yours."
Shadow folded his arms. "Why were you out, Sonic?"
"My nightly run." Sonic said. "That's all. Sally wanted to see the Aurora borealis, so she went on a run with me a few weeks ago. I did see Robotnik though, I swear."
"Okay, we'll check that Robotnik story out tomorrow." Shadow replied. "As far as the other thing goes, you know the rules. We have to be more strict with you three because, if you sneeze funny, the tabloids jump all over it."
"The tabloids are already running a story on us." Manic muttered.
"What?" Shadow asked.
"You remember when we were in that furniture store a month ago?" Sonic asked. "Well, there was this velvet couch and Manic and I were talking about a Seinfeld episode."
Shadow slapped his hand over his face. "One of you did the 'timeless art of seduction' thing."
"Manic did for a charity calendar; I took the pictures." Sonic said. "Someone hacked my private Discord server and got the rest of the pictures. I guess no one saw Seinfeld and now they think Manic and I are… don't make me finish that sentence."
"We'll talk about this in the morning." Shadow said. "Don't go out again."
"Fine with me." Sonic replied.
Shadow huffed and walked out of the room.
Manic followed Shadow out. "What?"
"Why do you two do stuff like that?" Shadow asked. "On second thought, don't tell me. I feel like I'd stay saner not knowing."
Manic bit his lip. "Uh… It was for the Cute Boys of Mobius calendar for the children's hospital."
"I don't mind you doing charity work, but you could've just given them money instead of that." Shadow replied.
Manic nodded. "I'm sorry."
Shadow headed back to his room and sat down on the bed.
Aleena looked at Shadow. "That was Sonic, huh?"
"He went out for a run." Shadow said. "He says he saw Robotnik."
"He snuck out to see Sally." Aleena replied.
"What's odd is that he admits he took her to see the Aurora borealis a few weeks ago, but not that he took her out tonight or any other night." Shadow said. "I had hoped I was wrong about Robotnik having other family members back on Earth."
Aleena slid closer to Shadow and laid her head on his chest.
Shadow stroked her fur. "We'll be fine." He said. "We're well prepared this time."
"I know." Aleena replied.
Shadow glanced at Aleena, who was about to fall asleep. "Did you know anything about the boys being in the tabloids or Manic doing a charity calendar?"
"Yes, they've been on the tabloids for a few weeks." Aleena said. "They didn't help their case by making Seinfeld jokes in their rebuttal video and laughing."
Shadow shook his head. "If they didn't resemble our family members, I'd swear those two weren't our kids."
Aleena fell asleep.
Shadow sat up and stroked her hair until he fell asleep.
