Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Sonic Underground Reloaded 2 ❯ Epilogue ( Chapter 6 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Shadow and Aleena sat on their bedroom's balcony while enjoying their morning coffee.

Aleena took a sip of her coffee. "Do you think there was a chance that the roboticized could've had their original memories installed?"

Shadow shook his head. "Robotnik put a program in with only a handful of surface things he knew about them." He replied. "It wouldn't matter anyway. Destroying the fortress triggered self-destruct sequences. Uncle Chuck couldn't recover anything useful."

Shadow checked his watch. "We better get ready." He said. "We have to be at the memorial unveiling soon."

"Should one of us stay with Manic?" Aleena asked. "He's been on that heating pad all morning."

"Bunnie will be here and he seemed content just to lay around and watch TV." Shadow replied.

Shadow and Aleena got up and headed to the living room.

Sonic and Sonia were sitting on the loveseat, scrolling through their phones as they waited for their parents.

Manic was lying on the couch, watching Terminator: the Sarah Connor chronicles.

Shadow picked up the remote and paused the show. "I hope you didn't start a new episode."

"Thanks for stopping it." Manic said. "It was about to start a new one. Can you put it on Seinfeld?"

Shadow handed Manic the remote. "Here, you can do it."

"Thanks." Manic replied.

Aleena knelt down by Manic's head and brushed his spines out of his face. "Do you need one of us to stay with you?"

"No, I'll be fine." Manic replied. "Jade said we'd watch a movie as soon as she got off work. I'll probably take a nap until she gets here."

Aleena kissed Manic's forehead. "Feel better, sweetie."

"Thanks, Ma." Manic said.

Shadow walked Aleena, Sonia, and Sonic to the memorial for the victims of Robotnik's tyranny.

Sonic wiped his eyes. "I can't believe Sally is gone."

"Sonic?" Sally called.

Sonic whipped around. "Sal?"

Sally ran over and hugged Sonic. "I thought Robotnik caught you."

"We thought you were roboticized." Sonic replied.

"I escaped by having Nicole burn a hole through the roboticizer, I hid out in Knothole under my middle name, and helped the resistance there." Sally said. "I haven't been able to contact you. I'm so sorry."

Sonic let her go. "What's your dad's nickname for you?"

"Bean." Sally said.

Sonic hugged Sally. "I knew you were still here."

Knuckles shyly walked over to Sonia with a handful of pink orchids. "Thanks for rescuing me."

"I'm sorry we couldn't rescue the rest of the echidna tribe." Sonia said.

"You tried your best." Knuckles replied.

Sonia looked at the flowers. "They're beautiful. Thank you."

Shadow walked over to Knuckles. "I hate to interrupt."

"No, you don't." Sonia mumbled.

"No, I already like him better than that pompous twit you were with." Shadow replied.

Sonic laughed.

"If you're the last echidna, who do you have guarding the Chaos emeralds?" Shadow questioned.

"I set traps around the island so I could come here just this once." Knuckles replied.

"Do you mind if we post guards by the mines?" Shadow asked. "I know the echidnas never liked outside help, but that's a lot of responsibility for just one guard."

Knuckles thought about it and sighed. "It was an Echidna tradition to guard them." He replied. "But you're right. I suppose I could use the help."

Shadow looked at Sonia. "Would you like to oversee the duties for the island, Sonia?"

Sonia grinned. "Of course."
