Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Sonic Underground Reloaded ❯ A fresh start ( Chapter 6 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Manic rolled himself to the kitchen table as best as he could. He couldn't look at his family, even after they forgave him.

Though Sonic made it very clear he was still angry about it.

Sonic dragged his spoon around his cereal bowl. "So… how are you feeling?"

"Awful." Manic muttered. "Nerve pain, still have headaches."

Aleena and Shadow walked in.

"You're supposed to be in bed, Manic." Shadow said. "You'll make your recovery take longer."

Aleena sighed. Come on." She said, pushing Manic's wheelchair. "Let's get you to bed."

"Fine." Manic muttered.

Sonic continued dragging his spoon around the bowl.

"What's with you?" Shadow asked.

"I kinda feel bad for him." Sonic asked. "Still not over him selling us out, but the poor guy finds out his adoptive dad is dead and now he may never walk again."

"He hasn't even started therapy yet, so you don't know that for sure." Shadow replied. He finally realized that Sonia and Sonic were eating cereal. "You know the chef was making waffles, right?"

"We have a chef?" Sonic asked.

Their chef, Bunnie Rabbot, hopped in with a huge tray full of waffles and several different toppings.

Sonic and Sonia immediately shoved their cereal bowls away as Bunnie sat the tray down on the table.

"Where's her majesty?" Bunnie asked.

"Putting Mr. Stubborn to bed." Sonic replied.

Queen Aleena finally came in. "Bunnie, could you take Manic a few waffles and blueberry syrup, please?"

"Yes, madam." Bunnie replied. "How's the little sugar hog this morning?"

"Bored and hungry." Aleena said, sitting down.

A year later, Manic was still in therapy. He was able to walk a little, but he still had to use the wheelchair occasionally.

Mobotropolis was in the process of being rebuilt and the planet's top scientists were in the process of de-roboticizing Robotnik's victims.

The family gathered in Manic's room.

Since Manic had to rest, they decided that would be a perfect time to catch up.

Aleena brought in the family photo albums.

Sonia pointed to a picture. "Who's the girl in the picture with you and Dad?"

"Our friend, Maria Robotnik." Aleena said. "She died not long after our wedding. She was always fond of the name Sonia, so that's how you got your name."

Sonic raised an eyebrow. "She looks too nice to be related to Ro-butt-nik."

"If she knew how her uncle really was, I'd think she'd claim she was adopted." Shadow replied.

Manic drummed his fingers on the bedside table. "Where's our pictures?"

"I'm sorry, we don't have any." Aleena said. "You were born the day after we escaped the safe house."

"I have pictures that uncle Chuck took." Sonic said.

"Lady Windermere took a lot of pictures of me." Sonia replied. "I had Bartleby get my photo albums while Manic was in the hospital."

Manic huffed. "I don't have any old pictures."

Aleena stroked Manic's spines. "I'm so sorry, Manic. Believe me, I didn't want to abandon any of you."

"Why was he sent to live with thieves?" Shadow asked.

Aleena explained the whole story.

"Farrell had enough decency not to hand over a baby to Robotnik, I'll give him that." Shadow said.

Now, the family were visiting the hanging gardens that Aleena had built not long after hers and Shadow's wedding.

"Maria would've loved this." Shadow said.

"I'm sure she would." Aleena replied. "She helped design it."

Manic and Sonia dipped their feet in one of the pools of water as they watched Sonic run around the garden.

Shadow motioned to Sonic. "Does he ever get tired?"

Aleena shook her head.

"There's one way to stop him." Manic said. He slowly stood up. "Sonic! We're going to get chili dogs!"

Sonic rushed over and skidded to a stop. "Does Bunnie know how to make chili dogs or do we have to go to the chili dog stand?"

The rest of the family got up.

"Bunnie can make them." Aleena said, helping Manic walk over to Shadow. "Come on, it's almost time for dinner."

Shadow and Aleena stood on the balcony, looking over the city.

"It's beautiful." Aleena said.

Shadow nodded.

"Mom?" Sonic asked.

Shadow and Aleena turned around.

Sonic, Manic, and Sonia (all in their pajamas) were standing there.

"What're you doing up?" Aleena asked.

"What's the problem?" Manic asked. "We don't have school."

"You start school Monday." Shadow said.

The triplets groaned.

"Now why are you up?" Shadow asked.

"How did Robotnik take over and where did he even come from?" Sonic asked.

"Well, you can stay up later tonight." Shadow said, leading Aleena back into the room.

The family sat on the floor as Shadow began to tell the story.
