Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ The Black Sheep ❯ Age 18 ( Chapter 3 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Sonic walked in and dropped his backpack on the couch.

“It’s a pipe dream, Manic.” Aleena said.

“It is not.” Manic replied. “Why don’t you ever tell Sonia that?”

“Go to your room.” Aleena said.

 “Whatever.” Manic muttered.

Sonic walked into the kitchen as Manic marched off to his room.

Sonic followed Manic to their room.

Manic grabbed his trench coat and skateboard.

“What happened this time?” Sonic asked.

“How is my artwork and drumming worth less than Sonia’s gymnastics and piano playing?” Manic asked.

“It’s not.” Sonic replied. “Is that what Mom said?”

Manic nodded tersely. “It would kill her to support me.”

“It’s just another week until we turn eighteen.” Sonic said.

Manic bit his lip. “Can you promise you won’t tell anyone what I’m about to tell you?”

Sonic sighed. “What did you do this time?”

“I’m getting married after graduation.” Manic said.

Sonic flinched. “In two weeks? Why?”

“I love Surge, I've known her since middle school, and I don’t want a random roommate.” Manic said. He looked away. “Can’t move in with Uncle Chuck now. You’re going on a trip around the world with Sally’s family after graduation, so you can’t be my roommate.”

“What about Shadow, Knux, and Tails?” Sonic asked. “Oh, but Tails is going with me.”

“Shadow joined the military and has been an extreme introvert since Maria died.” Manic said. “He and Sonia will probably get married soon. Knuckles is moving away to some island and I hear he’s getting married to Rouge.”

 “Good point.” Sonic replied.

“So you won’t say anything?” Manic asked.

 “I won’t, bro.” Sonic replied. “I promise.”

 Manic hugged Sonic. “Thanks, Sonic.”

“I’m happy for you, bro.” Sonic said.

Manic looked at the board in his hand and held it out to Sonic. “Hold this for me.”

Sonic took the board. “Is there something else?”

“Ma never wants to hear me practice.” Manic said, putting on his coat. “She’s never listened to me sing or looked at my artwork.”

“It’s her loss.” Sonic replied. “Your stuff is awesome.”

 “Thanks, bro.” Manic said.

“I’m sorry I had to quit the band.” Sonic said. “How’s the search for a new band to join going?”

“I auditioned for a few bands, but that fell through, so I’m self-publishing.” Manic replied.

 “How’s that going?” Sonic asked.

“Great.” Manic said, grinning. “Surge helped me film my first video.”

Manic sat down on his bed and pulled out his phone. He pulled up one of his music videos.

Sonic sat down beside him and watched the video. “Wow, great job.”

Manic hugged his family. “See you.” He said, grabbing his vest off of the back of the chair.

“We’ll see you next week for Mother’s birthday dinner.” Sonia said.

 Sonic glanced at Manic.

 “No, you won’t.” Manic replied.

“Are you going to be out of town?” Aleena asked.

“No, I mean I’m done.” Manic said. “I’ll see Sonic and Sonia only because of Shadow, but I’m done with you and it’s not like you ever cared.”

 Sonia rubbed her arm.

“Manic, how could you say that?” Aleena asked.

Manic scoffed. “Really, Ma?” He questioned. “You really have to ask me that?”

 “Yes, I do.” Aleena replied.

“How about when I’d show you my drawings and you’d ignore me, but you’d drop everything to see Sonia’s drawings?” Manic asked. “Or when you’d take a day off of work to see Sonia’s gymnastics competitions and her piano recitals, but never see me at the school talent shows and my skateboard competitions? You’d get mad at me for playing the drums and tell me to stop playing, but you never told Sonia to stop playing her keyboard. Sonia could see her friends, but I’d have to sneak out to see mine.”

“I did tell you to stop playing the drums because they were loud, but none of the other stuff ever happened.” Aleena replied.

Manic groaned. “You also deny everything instead of trying to work things out like I’ve begged you to do and blamed everything on Surge.”

“You have done all of that, Mom.” Sonic said.

Aleena shook her head. “I wouldn’t ever do that, but Surge was a bad influence on you.”

Manic threw his hands up. “Whatever. I’m done.” He muttered. He stormed off to his room and got the rest of his stuff. He marched out of his room.

 “Manic, wait.” Sonia said.

“You can do whatever you want with my furniture.” Manic said. “I bought new furniture and it’s already at my place. Have a nice life.”

 “Manic, please.” Sonia replied. “Don’t-”

“I don’t want to hear more denials, sis.” Manic said. “I’d be done with you too if Shads wasn’t my best friend. I’m tired of being the only one trying to work things out.”

Manic marched out and closed the door behind him.

Sonia sighed. “He doesn’t really mean it, does he?”

 Sonic slowly nodded.

Aleena shook her head. “He’s running his mouth.” She said, “He doesn’t mean it.”

 Sonic bit his lip.

 Aleena left the room.

“Why is he mad at me?” Sonia asked. “I don’t like how Mother treats Manic and I’ve told her that.”

Sonic tilted his head slightly to the side. “Since when?”

“Since I was ten, when I first realized what was happening.” Sonia replied.

“I never saw you say anything and Manic hasn’t either.” Sonic said.

“I don’t like confronting anyone in public like you and Manic do, I always told her when it was just us in a room.” Sonia replied.

“That’s why he’s mad.” Sonic said. “He has no idea that you ever defended him.”

“I’ll try to call him later.” Sonia replied. “Or use Shadow’s phone to call him.”
