Sonic Series Fan Fiction ❯ Brothers, then Enemies ❯ Sonic and the Rise of Glitch ( Chapter 3 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Fifteen year old Sonic cleaned out his little bedroom in his little shack.

His best friend and roommate, Tails, came in. “Hey, Sally’s almost done with lunch.”

“I’ll be done in a minute.” Sonic said, pulling a box out of his closet.

A picture fell out of the box.

Tails picked up the picture. “Who’s this kid in the picture with you?”

Sonic looked at the picture. “Remember when I was telling you about Manic?”

“Yeah, is that him?” Tails asked.

Sonic nodded. “Yeah.” He said, sitting down on his bed. “I can’t believe I left him there.”

 Tails sat down beside Sonic.

Sally stepped into the room. “Boys, lunch is ready.”

Sonic handed the picture to Tails.

Sally walked in and sat down beside Sonic. “Thinking about Manic?”

 Sonic nodded.

“Do you know what happened to him?” Sally asked.

Sonic shook his head. “No idea.” He replied. “I’m still trying to track him down. I hope he’s okay.”

Tails sighed and closed his laptop. “Sonic, Robotnik is at it again.” He said. “There’s a report of Badniks downtown. No sign of Shadow and Surge.”

“I’m on it.” Sonic said. He raced out.

Sally and Tails ran to the hangar/garage to get Sonic’s car.

Sonic took down the last of the robots. “Huh.” He said, dusting himself off. “He usually sends out more robots or Shadow and/or Surge.”

A green hedgehog with spines dyed black landed his hoverboard in front of him. He got off of his hoverboard; the sound of his heavy combat boots hitting the ground echoed.

“Ah, so Robotnik hired a new sidekick.” Sonic said.

The hedgehog narrowed his eyes. “I’m no one’s sidekick.”

 Sonic squinted. “You look familiar.”

The hedgehog raised an eyebrow. “So do you.”

“Ah, so… you’re Surge’s brother, right?” Sonic asked. “You look kinda like her. Wait, she’s a tenrec though.”

“So you’re the one that fought my girl last week too?” The hedgehog asked. He cracked his knuckles. “I have been waiting to get my hands on you.”

“Whatever.” Sonic said. “Let’s see what you-”

The green hedgehog threw a punch at Sonic.

Sonic dodged the punch, then spin dashed the hedgehog.

The hedgehog slowly got to his feet.

Sonic walked over to the hedgehog. “Is that all you got, new guy?”

The hedgehog kicked Sonic in the crotch, then landed another punch on Sonic’s head.

Sonic hit the ground and groaned. “Shouldn’t have asked.” He muttered. “Who are you?”

“Glitch.” The hedgehog replied. He got on his hoverboard and rode away.

Sonic finally got to his feet.

Tails flew over. “Sonic, are you alright?”

“Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine.” Sonic said. “Did you see that guy?”

Tails nodded. “I think he’s the guy who’s been causing trouble all over town with Surge and Shadow.” He replied. “He fought Knuckles to a standstill last week.”

Sally ran over and hugged Sonic. “Are you okay?”

“I'll be fine.” Sonic replied. “Did any of you see him? I swear he looks familiar.”

“We found some pictures.” Tails said. “I can do an image search at home.”

“Then let’s go.” Sonic replied. “I need to lay down for a while.”

Manic made it to the roof of Ivo’s home/lab and got off his hoverboard. He sat down on the roof and stared at the stars. “Who was that guy?” He thought. “Why does he seem so familiar?”

He laid his arm on his knee. “Wait… was that Sonic?” He thought. “Wasn’t he really fast too? I think so… and I beat him up. Ah, why do I care? He abandoned me and Surge needed stitches from her fight with him. He’s jealous because I’m with Surge and would probably try to steal her from me anyway.”

Manic wiped his eyes as he felt tears forming. “Sorry, bro. I wish things were different.” He whispered.

Manic flinched as he heard the door open. He looked over his shoulder.

Shadow and Surge walked over to him.

“Oh, hey, sorry I was late for dinner.” Manic replied. “Business took longer than expected.”

Shadow and Surge sat down, with Manic in between them.

“It’s fine.” Surge said. “Your family’s pretty cool.”

Manic dipped his chin to his chest.

“What’s with you?” Shadow asked. “We saw the drone footage of the fight. You did okay.”

“Sonic’s my brother.” Manic replied. “My biological brother. I haven’t seen him since he ran away from the orphanage.”

 “He’s your brother?” Surge asked.

Manic nodded. “He hated the orphanage.” He replied. “I did too, but I was afraid to run away.”

Manic pulled his knees to his chest. “I tried to run away with him, but I got caught.” He said. “I couldn’t believe he was willing to leave me there. Then, I was adopted.”

“He’s never looked for you?” Shadow asked.

Manic shook his head. “Not to my knowledge.” He replied. “He didn’t even recognize me.”

“It’s been fifteen years.” Shadow said. “You have all those piercings and tattoos. You dyed your spines. He probably won’t recognize you.”

“I recognized him, well, finally recognized him.” Manic replied. “I’d think he still should be able to recognize me after a few minutes.”

Surge nodded. “Sorry, babe.” She said, rubbing Manic’s back. “I guess he forgot you.”

 Manic blinked back tears.

“You want your dinner?” Shadow asked.

Manic got up. “What was it?”

Shadow got up. “Maria made Pizza and the robots in the dessert room made Gelato.” He said.

Manic smiled weakly. “I could go for some mango strawberry gelato.”

Sonic looked over Tails’ shoulder. “So nothing on this guy?”

Tails tossed his hands up. “I can’t find anything on him, Surge, or Shadow.”

 “For real?” Sonic asked.

Sally looked up from her book. “There has to be something on them somewhere.”

“I may have a theory.” Tails replied.

 Sonic sat down beside Tails.

Sally set her book down and leaned forward.

“I think Shadow, Surge, and Glitch are either orphans or kidnapped kids. Mobians were a low priority back when they would’ve been children.” Tails replied. “They're so powerful because Ivo altered them somehow. I heard he’s gotten a Chaos Emerald and has been doing experiments with it. It would explain why they have something like a low grade super form.”

“It’s a good theory.” Sonic said.

 Sally nodded.

Tails drank some water, then threw the bottle in the recycling bin. “I still have to hack into Robotnik’s files, so maybe there’s something about them there.”

 “Thanks, Tails.” Sonic replied.
