Chapter 2

 

The dhampir Vampire Hunter D was at this point riding his horse through the knee high grass that seemed to expand into every direction. A few bushes and small groups of trees appeared here and there, and also some small game, other that that, the valley was lifeless.

D was riding in silence, lost in thought. His thoughts wandered in a direction that they have not taken in over 200 years. He thought of his sister.

 

“D,” said a voice coming out of his left hand, “why are you thinking about your sister. I never even thought you had one. What else do you keep from me?”

 

“Quiet, she is no one of your concern and besides, she is dead.”

 

“Sorry. What was her name?”

 

D lifted one eyebrow at his left hand's sympathy. It was a strange thing.

 

“Raven,” he answered at last.

 

“We're being followed”
