prologue

Hitomi Kanzaki looked out of her room and saw the stars. Out of nowhere, a soft white feather came fluttering in Hitomi's room. She caught it.
Hitomi sadly sighed. It had been 6 years now. Six years after that life-changing experience. She sighed again and held the feather close to her heart. He used to come to her more often, but now, he came to her only twice a month. At most.
*Of course, he is a king now* Hitomi thought *He has a duty to fulfill*
A tear fell down her cheek and onto the feather. It glistened with the starlight.
She was having such a quiet moment that when the telephone rang, she almost literally jumped out of her seat.
"Hello?" she said to the telephone.
"Hitomi-chan?" said a familiar voice.
"Hiroki," she said.
Izawa Hiroki was the name of her boyfriend.
She sighed again.
"Hitomi, are you okay?" Hiroki lovingly asked.
"Yeah, I'm okay."
No, she never thought she would love again. But Hiroki just came along, so sweet and so caring that she couldn't help but be attracted to him.
In a way, she never did love again. She never loved again, the way she did before. Yes, she loved Hiroki, but she knew that she will never love him as much as she loved him. That was unfair to Hiroki, not to love him the way he loved her, but no matter how hard she tried, she never found the strength to forget him. Or to love Hiroki that way.
Deep inside, she knew that she will never forget him, but she also knew that she had to move along. Besides, he probably found someone else already.
"Hiroki, I'll call you later, okay?" Hitomi said. "I am not feeling at that well at all."
Hitomi placed the receiver back into its cradle.
Hiroki had asked her to marry him on their date last night. She was already twenty-one, and he was twenty-four. They were already the right age to marry. Yet when he asked her, she couldn't say yes. She made up all the crap about how they were still too young, and that there were still many opportunities ahead of them. She sensed that Hiroki was hurt and that it was probably the end of their relationship.
She was half-right. Hiroki was deeply hurt. But they talked it over and decided to continue their relationship.
"Maybe in the future. . ."Hiroki, said, with a smile.
*In the future. . .*
Her best friend, Ukari, was shocked when she heard the what she did. Ukari was now happily married with her high school sweetheart, Amano. Hitomi used to have a huge crush on Amano when they were in high school. She even thought it was true love. But then she met him. She realized that it was actually Ukari who was in love with Amano and not her. Now, they were married. They were meant for each other.
Hiroki will never know why she really said no. It was because of him. Because of Van Slanzar de Fanel, her first love. Her first true love. She never quite forgot about him.
"Van," she whispered.
She looked at the white feather she was holding.
Things weren't always so great between her and Van. At first, things were a bit uneasy. They were fighting, actually. But she always felt drawn to him. She didn't really realize her real feelings for him until the end. At first she had carelessly thought that she was in love with Allen Schezar, the handsome Knight Caelie. But that was superficial, not like what she had for Van.
Remembering all that, she ached even more for Van.
Just then, she felt her insides tightening. Her stomach knotting up. It was a familiar feeling, but she really haven't had that feeling for years now. She was going to have a vision. That was something she had promised never to have again six years ago.
Pictures raced right past her.

*A star shall fall from the sky. . .*

She was back in Gaea. . .

*A kingdom is at risk. . .*

Gaea, rebuilt, then back to flames.

*A girl. . . the Mystic Moon. . .*

Her vision swirled. There was a falling star. Hitomi gasped. She was looking at herself, there were two of her. . . silhouetted by Earth. . .

*Fates will be decided. . .*

There was a boy; he had Van's features but. . .

*As the wheels of fortune turn. . .*

The vision was blurring. . . She saw someone's back. . .

*Events will repeat. . .*

She saw a girl; she looked like herself, but it wasn't her. . .she was holding her pendant. . .

*Escaflowne shall rise again. . *

There was Van, having the blood pact with Escaflowne, and then the image changed. It wasn't Van, it was someone else, it was the boy. . .

*And so shall the dead. . .*

There was Celena, turning to Dilandau and then back again. Everything was blurry. . .
The next thing Hitomi saw was her room.
"Van," she whispered, almost out of breath.
Something was going to happen, that much was obvious to Hitomi. She knew that, somehow, she needed to warn Van. . .
