SCENE 39: Ext. Edge of forest. VAN is standing, peering into the forest.

VAN: Merle? Merle? Are you there?

ERIYA and NARIA emerge from the woods. Each one is carrying two small bundles.

VAN: Oh....hello...where have you two been?

ERIYA and NARIA laugh.

VAN: What are you holding?

ERIYA: Should we let him hold one, sister?

NARIA: All right. He is Folken-sama's brother, I don't think he'd do any harm.

VAN: Nani...?

ERIYA passes him a bundle. VAN peers in to see a baby cat-girl with blue hair and wings in addition to her ears and tail.

VAN: NANI O?!

ERIYA: Do you like her?

VAN: Wha...FOLKEN?! If you'll excuse me....

VAN passes the cat-girl back to ERIYA, then sprouts wings and flies back to the castle, into the window of a room where FOLKEN is sitting talking to ALLEN and JAJUKA..

VAN: Folken, did you take my advice or were you doing it all along?

FOLKEN: What are you talking about?

VAN: I just ran into Eriya and Naria carrying blue-haired kittens!

ALLEN: 0.0

JAJUKA: Congradulations!

ALLEN: Have you...just created a new SPECIES?

FOLKEN: Mind your own business, Allen

SHESTA runs in.

SHESTA: Nani okurei?

VAN: FOLKEN HAD KITTENS!

SHESTA: Um....Van? Are you....feeling okay?

ALLEN: Well...technically, Eriya and Naria had FOLKEN's kittens

SHESTA: That makes sense....wait...so now we have....winged---blue haired---cats?

VAN: Yes.

FOLKEN: Would you please not be so...lewd? It is my private life and...

VAN: Folken...we don't WANT to know.

SHESTA: Were you all together at the....

CELENA enters.

CELENA: What's going on?

VAN: Um....um...you tell her, Folken.

FOLKEN: Funny, you weren't so shy when Shesta came in.

FOLKEN: Eriya and Naria had kittens.

CELENA: Oh! That's wonderful! They're....

VAN: BOTH of them had kittens with Folken

CELENA: Well...it being Eriya and Naria, anything else would be unnatural.

FOLKEN is looking at CELENA gratefully.

VAN: AND THIS ISN'T UNNATURAL?

SHESTA: Folken, I know you used to be a scientist, but...did you HAVE to go and create a new SPECIES?

FOLKEN: That has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with it!

VAN: So THAT's why you joined Zaibach!

FOLKEN glares at VAN and SHESTA

CELENA: Oh, I'm sure it had nothing to do with anything of that sort! These kittens are a beautiful expression of the love that Eriya, Naria, and Folken share!

VAN: WHAT??

ALLEN: Please, I just ate!

CELENA: It isn't funny.

HITOMI enters, carrying ENICIA and pushing SAMECH and DAMIEN along in a little stroller-thing.

HITOMI: Oh, here you go Celena. What's going on in here?

CELENA takes ENICIA and SAMECH wriggles out of the stroller and crawls over to VAN. VAN looks down at SAMECH dubiously.

CELENA: Eriya and Naria have returned! They have given birth to kittens! Isn't it wonderful?

HITOMI: 0.0

VAN: Yeah! FOLKEN'S kittens!

HITOMI: 0.0 Uh...so that was TRUE, Folken.

FOLKEN: Huh?

HITOMI: The conversation you and Van had on his and my wedding night?

FOLKEN: Huh...oh! yes.

HITOMI: 0.0 And I thought I was used to surprises...

SHESTA: The feelng's mutual

FOLKEN: HEY!

ERIYA and NARIA walk in. EVERYONE tries to keep a straight face as FOLKEN walks over to them. SAMECH tugs VAN's pant leg and looks at him petulantly. VAN recoils. JAJUKA glares at VAN and picks SAMECH up. CELENA is holding ENICIA and HITOMI is holding DAMIEN. ERIYA and NARIA kneel and FOLKEN sort of bends over them.

ERIYA: Look what we have brought you, Folken-sama!

NARIA: Yes, look at what we have brought!

SHESTA and JAJUKA V.O. : This looks disturbingly like Zaibach...

FOLKEN: I'm so glad you're back...

NARIA: Look at mine first, Folken-sama!

ERIYA: Can I be first?

NARIA: No, me!

FOLKEN: Anyone got a coin?

FOLKEN picks up one of the bundles from ERIYA and opens it to reveal a cat-girl with blue hair and wings in addition to her cat ears and tail. Her eyes are red.

FOLKEN: Oh, she's beautiful!

SHESTA: If you really think so...

SHESTA: So-rry!

CELENA: Shesta, please.

SHESTA: I'm sorry.

JAJUKA V.O.: Speaking of being disturbingly like Zaibach...

the cat-girl wraps her hand around one of FOLKEN's fingers. FOLKEN sort-of chuckles.

ERIYA: What should we call her?

FOLKEN: I was thinking...Varie, after Van and my mother, if you don't mind, Van?

he says if you don't mind with more than a little edge in his voice. VAN nods

VAN V.O.: You can call your experiments whatever you want.

FOLKEN: Allright, so this is Varie.

VARIE: Meow!

NARIA: Now one of mine, Folken-sama!

FOLKEN: All right.

FOLKEN passes VARIE to ERIYA. NARIA passes FOLKEN one of her bundles, which he opens to reveal what appears to be a human baby boy, except he has a cat tail. He also has wings. His hair is silvery-blond. His eyes are blue.

FOLKEN: Very nice.

NARIA: You said Eriya's was beautiful...

FOLKEN: He's a boy! I can't call him beautiful!

NARIA: Then you better call my daughter beautiful!

FOLKEN: I will...don't worry

MERLE enters. She stops short at the scene near the door.

MERLE: NANI O?!

VAN: Folken had kittens with Eriya and Naria.

MERLE: Eww!

FOLKEN: Thank you.

MERLE: I wouldn't have kittens with a human! That's just disgusting!

ERIYA: Watch your mouth. You're just a kitten. You don't know anything.

MERLE: Sure...

FOLKEN: Anyway, he's very nice, Naria.

NARIA: What should his name be?

FOLKEN passes STEPHEN back to NARIA and picks up the other of ERIYA's bundles. He unwraps this one to find a baby girl who looks almost human except that she has cat ears. She also has wings. Her hair is golden-blonde, and her eyes are red. She has no tail

FOLKEN: Oh, she is beautiful, too!

NARIA: Hey!

FOLKEN sighs

FOLKEN: I told you I'd say your girl was beautiful, Naria.

ERIYA: Yeah, wait your turn.

VAN: Pick a number!

FOLKEN: Van, you're starting to get annoying....

VAN: Thanks.

SHESTA: Hey! That's my line!

EVERYONE ELSE ignores VAN.

ERIYA: What do you think her name should be, Folken-sama?

FOLKEN V.O.: I know my name...

FOLKEN: Uh...how about you pick?

ERIYA: Um...uh...okay....How about Tara?

FOLKEN: All right!

CELENA: Tara's a really pretty name.

NARIA: Everyone's nicer to Eriya's kittens than mine.

NARIA forces her second bundle into Folken's arms. Meanwhile, SAMECH is sitting in front of a fireplace.

SAMECH: Oooh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JAJUKA looks down at SAMECH.

SAMECH points at the fire.

JAJUKA: 0.0

VAN looks over at SAMECH. SAMECH points at the fire again and makes another happy noise. VAN jumps out of the window, (putting his wings out, of course.)

FOLKEN: Thank you, Samech.

CELENA looks over and scoops up SAMECH away from the fire.

CELENA: For goodness sake! I should have been watching him more carefully.

SAMECH starts to cry.

CELENA V.O.: Why does this stuff always happen to me!?!?

NARIA: Anyway, Folken...

ERIYA: -Sama.

NARIA: I was going to say that.

ERIYA: You must show proper respect to Folken-sama!

HITOMI: Why do you still call him Folken-sama?

NARIA: Because...because...he is Folken-sama?

JAJUKA: He doesn't.

NARIA: ANYWAY...

FOLKEN: Yes yes Naria.

ERIYA: If she's darling can I be cutie-pie?

MERLE: Uh...no offense, but I wouldn't think of you two as 'darling' and 'cutie pie.'

FOLKEN unwraps the last bundle, to reveal a baby girl with no apparent cat characteristics, but has wings. Her hair is blue and her eyes are red.

FOLKEN: Oh, she's very beautiful, Naria.

NARIA: Is she darling?

SHESTA: Wait, I thought Naria was 'darling' and Eriya was 'cutie pie' and Samech is 'Dil...

EVERYONE glares at SHESTA

FOLKEN: A while ago, Van jumped out the window. I suggest you do the same.

VAN: I volunteer to throw him out the window!

SHESTA: Well, some of us kind-of don't have WINGS...

VAN: Land on a roof

SHESTA: and break my neck?

VAN: If that's what you have to do, that's fine.

SHESTA: Hey, I'm not going to let you kill me twice!

VAN: If you jumped it would be suicide....

CELENA: Please! Could we be..slighty less...violent minded?

NARIA: Yes, yes. Anyway...as to my darling, cutie-pie baby....

FOLKEN: She's very beautiful, Naria.

DRYDEN: Wow, he seems to like this one a lot. Probably because she looks like him.

NARIA: Yes...that's it! My child is the one who looks the most like the beautiful Folken-sama!

FOLKEN throws VAN out the window. SHESTA shuts and locks the window. VAN can be seen outside the window with his wings out, knocking.

VAN: (voice from far away) LET ME IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CELENA, remember, is still holding SAMECH.

SAMECH: (points out the window) Van!

EVERYONE: 0.0

SHESTA: Hey! MY kid's first word is VAN??? That's not fair! What am I? A potted plant?

FOLKEN: Although sometimes we might wish you were, you're not.

SHESTA: REA-LLY? I didn't KNOW that!

SAMECH: Van! Van Van!

CELENA: Uh...yeah...Van's out the window.

SHESTA V.O.: I think it'd be more fun if Van were in here.....

SHESTA opens the window. VAN flies in

VAN: THANKS, Folken.

FOLKEN: Any time.

SAMECH: VAN!!!!!!

VAN: 0.0

CELENA: Uh...yeah...Van's inside now.

VAN: How does he know how to say my name?!?!

VAN's voice sounds the tiniest bit shaky.

CELENA: I have no idea. He seems to like you.

SHESTA: I brought you back in because I thought you'd like to hear my son's first word!

CELENA glares at SHESTA

SHESTA's voice is REALLY shaky

SAMECH: Van?

CELENA: Will you hold him a moment, Van? He seems to want you to.

VAN: He wants to KILL me, you mean!

MERLE: Oh dear Van-sama, paranoid again?

SHESTA: (sarcastically) yeah, my child's been plotting your demise for the past two weeks, ever since he was born, Van.

SAMECH grabs VAN's shirt sleeve and tugs at it. He makes a happy noise

SAMECH: VAN!

VAN: Uh....that's my shirt.

SAMECH: VAN.

VAN: You do realize, you're freaking me out.

SAMECH: Van?

VAN: Uh...say...."Shesta is a dork" C'mon....say....SHESTA....IS....A....DORK.

SHESTA: Don't brainwash my kid!

SAMECH: (in a tone that sounds almost semi-annoyed) Van-

VAN: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

SAMECH: Van?

JAJUKA takes SAMECH from VAN.

JAJUKA: (to Shesta) you haven't been a Dragon Slayer for three-and-a-half years and you still like to torture people?

SHESTA: Hey.

VAN: Yes.

SHESTA: It's just fun with Van. I don't even need to do anything. He's scared of EVERYTHING.

SAMECH: VAN!

CELENA: Now how about we leave the room and let Folken's kittens get some sleep?

EVERYONE exits. CELENA sighs in annoyance.
