Safe With Me
=====================

Mokuba awoke the next morning; his eyes glued shut with sleep. He rubbed them free and sat up in bed. He found Meison on the floor on his back in a pair of silk boxers and nothing more, lifting weights. The bulging biceps in his arms looked like somebody had entrenched oranges under his skin.

"What time is it?" Mokuba managed to choke out as he watched the exotic blue and white haired boy flex his muscles.

"Six." Meison replied, a little too briefly.

"Damn, you're an early bird."

"The early bird catches the worm." Meison said.

"Huh?" Mokuba asked as he sat up in bed.

Meison put his weights down and sat up, then shrugged. "I don't know, I heard it somewhere. Don't ask me what it means."

Mokuba grinned. "I'm going to have a shower."

"I'll join you." Meison said, and received a shocked look from Mokuba. "Not like that, silly."

Mokuba just blushed. Together they gathered some clean clothes and a towel and went down the hall to the bathrooms. They walked into separate cubicles next to one another and stripped down, turning the faucet onto a luke-warm flow. It took about ten minutes for the water to soak through the thick layers of Mokuba's blue-black hair.

"I wonder what they serve up for breakfast at this place." Mokuba muttered as he and Meison made their way down to the dining hall. They took a plate and a tray and lined up to get their breakfast.

"Name?" A large, stocky woman behind the counter asked.

"Mokuba Kaiba." Mokuba said, a tad confused.

The lady typed away into the computer behind the counter and collected some pills from out the back and piled them onto the tray next to Mokuba's bowl.

"I have to take all of these?" Mokuba cried in disbelief.

"You sure do." The lady said, piling a spoonful of seafood chowder into Mokuba's bowl.

"Oh gross…" Mokuba muttered before taking a seat at a nearby table. Setsuko was sitting opposite him staring blankly at the pasty mush that resided in her bowl.

"I hate seafood." She groaned, and laughed a little.

"Me too." I replied. Meison came and sat beside me.

"Do we have to eat this shit?" Meison asked.

"I heard they come around to check whether you've taken your pills or not…" Layla mentioned as she downed her vitamins with a glass of orange juice.

Mokuba looked at the five pills that were on the tray next to his soup. He popped them into his mouth and quickly skulled back a swig of juice. "This better be as good as they say it is."

Mokuba and Meison discussed their insecurities and basically things that scared them with the rest of the group on their second day of rehab. Gaia seemed to work wonders with the youths, as if she had been through it all before herself. Mokuba learnt that one of Meison's biggest fears was lightening storms, as one of his best friends had been struck by lightening and killed when he was a little boy back in Osaka. Mokuba mentioned that his greatest fear was losing his brother.

One o'clock came around quickly, and Mokuba was more than willing to burn off his distasteful breakfast and lunch in the gym. Although he felt rather shameful standing next to Meison, who had a washboard stomach (with not an inch of fat in sight) and biceps the size of Everest.

"That's it, just one more!" Meison said as he towered above Mokuba while he lay upside-down on a bench lifting weights.

"Argh!" Mokuba cried as he lifted his last weight. Meison grabbed the weights off of him and put them to one side as Mokuba basically collapsed with exhaustion on the bench. He stared up at the lavender-eyed boy standing above him.

"You ready for some ab-crunches?" Meison teased.

"Fuck no." Mokuba replied as he grabbed Meison's hand and pulled himself up from the bench. His legs and arms felt like wobbly jelly.

"Do you want to go into the sauna?"

"Do I what!" Mokuba replied. Together they sauntered off to the changing rooms to strip down and head off to the sauna and spa utilities.

Inside, Mokuba saw Setsuko sitting up against the wall of the sauna, rubbing her pregnant tummy, a small smile on her face. Whitaker was yakking to Felix and Jewel, and there were some other people from different departments in there too. Meison and Mokuba sat down and poured some more water over the hot rocks in the corner.

"How far along are you, Setsuko?" Jewel asked.

"Six months." Setsuko replied with a smile.

"Do you know if it's a girl or a boy?" Mokuba asked, just out of curiosity.

"She's a girl. I need help with some names though."

"What about the father?" Meison asked.

Setsuko sighed. "I don't think he minds what I call her… but when it comes down to it he will probably disagree."

The room fell silent, as Mokuba drifted away into his own little dream world, concentrating on the strong heat of the sauna seeping into his skin. Meison leant his head against the wall and closed his eyes, sweat beginning to form on his forehead. Mokuba closed his eyes and thought of Seto. What would he be up to right now?

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~

Kaiba sat down in his living room with a cup of lemon tea and a night to himself. He flipped out a photo album and ran his fingers over the title, engraved in gold---"Mokuba and Seto, 1997." He sighed, and turned into the first page. He was only Mokuba's age in 1997. His blue eyes young and innocent, yet full of hatred for his stepfather who beat him so brutally. Not once did he blame Mokuba for their parent's death. He knew better than that, no matter what Gozubaro tried to brainwash him with.

He turned the page, and picked out a particular photo from its slot. It was a photo of Seto with Mokuba on his shoulders, covering his eyes with his hands. Gozubaro's kindly housemaid had taken it, as she adored the two boys. They adored her just as much back, as she showered them with love, slipping treats into their rooms at night once she was sure the master had gone to bed for the night. Seto loved her like his own mother… until Gozubaro fired her, that is.

Seto turned the page again and a piece of flat, wrinkled paper fell out. The handwriting was that of a child's, the letter `e' being backwards in a few words. Seto recognized it as Mokuba's handwriting from when they were children. He read over it a few times, the sentence being, "Find strength in love". Mokuba never seemed to cease to inspire Seto, even at this age. After closing the album and sliding it back into its place in the bookshelf, Kaiba stood up and went to the phone in the kitchen. It rang a few times before the receiver picked up.

[Hello?]

"Good evening, Jounouchi." Kaiba greeted suavely.

[Kaiba?]

"Yes. Would you care to come over? It's lonely here without Mokuba around."

[Uh, well-]

"That's if you're not busy doing whatever mongrels like you do."

[Hey! Take that back!]

"Not unless you come over." Kaiba replied, amused.

[Fine. I'll be there soon.] The blonde retorted, and hung up. Nothing more put Kaiba in the mood than to wind up the mutt, followed by long, hot, sweaty passionate sex afterward. Quickly, he dashed upstairs to get changed.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~

Mokuba, Meison and a few other patients sat in the TV room at the center watching the only channel available - the news. Mokuba lay on his stomach, staring numbly up at the box that flickered with dull colours. Meison leant against his back, but was sitting up. Gaia was sitting in a rocking chair doing some knitting.

"This is boring." Meison muttered.

Gaia chuckled. "Well seeing as you can't understand Filipino, I can see why."

The weather soon came on the news. The weatherman was babbling some garbage about a subtropical storm heading over Manila for a few days, and that it would hit later on tonight. It seemed that it had already arrived, however.

Meison jumped as a loud crash of thunder struck over the roof of the center. "I-I'm going to go to bed." He said quickly, and stood up.

"Me too. I'm pretty tired." Mokuba said, and got up, following his roommate. "Hey Meison, I'm just going to call my brother then I'll be right up, okay?"

Meison nodded quickly with a blank face and bolted up the stairs. Mokuba frowned and went to the main hall where the payphone was. He dialed the number to the estate, but nobody picked up. Snorting, he went upstairs to his room, only to hear sniffling noises from the top bunk. A giant crash of thunder followed by a streak of lightening, lighting up the whole room, caused the trembling boy under the covers to shriek again.

"Meison? Are you okay?" Mokuba asked as he stood up on his bunk and peered under the covers to where Meison was hiding.

"Is it over yet?" Meison asked, quivering.

Mokuba creased his brow. "You mean the storm? No… I'm afraid it's here for the night." Meison sobbed and dug deeper under the covers.

"Do… you want me to come up?" Mokuba asked.

"Yes please…" Meison mumbled.

Mokuba took off his shoes and jersey and climbed onto the top bunk and slithered under the covers with the frightened teen. Meison wriggled up a bit into Mokuba's arms and laid his head on his chest, struggling to get nearer to the sound of his comforting heartbeat. His tears soaked through Mokuba's t-shirt, but he didn't mind.

They lay there for a while, just enjoying the warmth and comfort of one another's closeness. Meison's sobbing eased, but he still jumped every now and then at the sound of the thunder and the howling tropical wind. Mokuba was involuntarily stroking the baby-blue and white locks that sprouted from Meison's head. It seemed to calm him quite soundly.

The sound of heavy rain falling on the roof even made Meison nervous, and he tensed in Mokuba's embrace. Mokuba rubbed his arms and shoulders to let him know it would be okay.

"I feel like such a baby." Meison murmured.

"Don't. I used to be scared of the lightening too." Mokuba replied.

"I just hate it so much. It killed my best friend."

There was silence for a moment or two before Mokuba found his voice again. "Don't worry Meison, it can't hurt you as long as you're in here. You're safe here. You're safe with me."
