[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Heaven’s Eyes By: DJ Rodriguez   (Author’s Notes: Hi, everyone. DJ here, and with another songfic. This one is dedicated to all my fans, and to my members at my Yahoo Group, “The Yugi Palace”!   Darien: For this fanfic, the song is from “The Prince of Egypt”. Plus, it shows where DJ came through this type of period in his life.   I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh or “Heaven’s Eyes” by Stephen Schwartz.   Now, on with the songfic!)   The year was June 2nd, 2005. It has been about one to two years since the downfall of Dartz. The world was returned back to normal, and also the threat of Atlantis or the Leviathan were gone. Life went on, and changed for the better for most of the people. Especially the Duel Crew.   Seto and Mokuba Kaiba regained control of their company shortly after Dartz’s defeat, and rebuilt the entire structure better then ever! More new and improved Duel Monsters rolled on out from the corporate giant, and now the Kaiba Brothers were liertally very wealthy and powerful members of Japanese society. Their headquarters were moved to the heart of Japan, which was Tokyo.   Joey and Serenity moved back to the United States with their mother, the young duelist receiving a college scholarship from the Universtity of Texas in San Antonio. The family moved there after Joey graduated from Domino High, and Serenity was going to John Jay High School to complete her education.   Tristen teamed up with Duke Devillin, and both started to work for Maximillion Pegasus. The three came up with new and original board games that featured Duel Monsters, even more potent then Duke’s old game. After much hard work and success, the three became very popular and wealthy. They moved out of Domino City and were living in Honolulu, Hawaii.   Téa received a scholarship from a prestigious college in New York City, plus an invitation to try out for a famous dance studio. Shortly after graduating from high school, she and her family went over there and took up permenant residence there. The dancer could not have been happier.   Mai Valentine was still going off around the world, trying to find herself after the Dartz adventure. She had gained much knowledge about other cultures and people, but still could not find peace. One day, she met an interesting young man in Germany and now both were going out.   Rebecca and her grandfather were once again roaming the world, searching for ancient artifacts and lost cities. Solomon Motou usually went with them, his energy returning to him and very eager to start exploring once more. It seemed that Fate and Destiny were smiling on all of them.   Well, most of them anyway…   Currently, Yugi Motou was once again busy taking care of the Kame Turtle Game Shop. It had been a very rough time for Yugi, especially with his friends scattered to the winds. First off, Yami returned to the afterlife after discovering his past and memories. He wished his vessel good luck in the future before vanishing from sight.   After graduating, with top honors, he realized that he did not have anything planned for the future. A good chunk of his life was gone, due to fighting supernatural villains and monsters. He did not have time to plan on what college to go to, nor what career he wanted to take in.   One by one, his friends received scholarships and jobs from around the world. Alas, he did not receive anything. When he saw his friends take off to parts unknown, he wished them all good luck with their futures. Sadly, he did not have one. He helped his grandfather out in the shop a lot, but he soon regained the life in his eyes and went out frequently on trips with Professor Hawkins.   So naturally, he took care of everything by himself. He took care of the various and many bills, he kept the shop running, and keeping the house tidy. Alas, he was too busy and preoccupied to try and search for a college or try to figure out what kind of job he really wanted.   Alas, he was at a dead end.   Yugi was now going over some bills in the study, his eyes bloodshot and his posture screaming out for sleep and rest. “I can’t sleep now. Have bills… to pay. Checkbook to balance…”, he said to himself as he continued to write in near-darkness. A small lamp was his only source of light.   As he struggled with the finances, he remembered all of the good times he and his friends used to have. He saw those days as carefree and with little worry on what tomorrow would hold. Sadly, he saw in his mind on how happy they were when they left Domino City to pursue their careers.   And he was left behind.   He threw his pen down angrily, hands clutching his hair in anguish and groaning. “I need some air.”, he told himself. Leaving the paperwork on his desk, he picked up his coat and went out of the Game Shop. He locked it and walked out into the warm summer night.   He walked down some streets and found himself at Domino City Park. He went in and sat on one of the stone benches near a shimmering lake, which was due to the full moon from above. He just stared at the lake, the whole area in silence. He sighed heavily, pulling his coat around him some more.   “What I’m I going to do? I’m at a dead end here.”, he muttered to himself.   He soon came to the conclusion that all of his efforts and victories came from being with his friends. Especially Yami. He saw that he just sat on the sidelines whenever he dueled, just being supportive and nothing else. And even when he dueled, it was mediocre compared to the ancient phraoah. Everything was done by Yami, while he just stayed in the shadows.   “I guess why Life has not been good to me. I haven’t earned anything to warrant such honor.”, he whispered to himself.   “That is not how I see it, Yugi-sama.”, a rich voice called out.   Yugi scanned the area to find out where the voice came from, and soon a person stepped out from behind some nearby trees. It was Ishizu Ishtar, dressed in her white/gold Egyptian clothing. However, her face was different. It seemed softer, much gentle. She sat down beside him, gazing at the lake.   “Yugi, how can you say that you do not have the honor of living a good life?”, she inquired, her gaze still on the lake.   “Ishizu, let’s face it. I was never on the field, just on the sidelines and giving support. That’s not much, and because of that… I really don’t deserve to live an honorable life.”, he answered.   Ishizu turned her head to face his, her blue eyes now gleaming somewhat. It was now filled with wisdom and knowledge, which somehow surprised Yugi. “First, you solved the Millienium Puzzle. Then, you willingly went along to help to save the world and restore Yami’s memories. Clearly, you do not know what it means to be worthy of honor.”, she told him.   She continued on, “Believe me, Yugi-sama. You have done far more then just ‘sitting on the sidelines’, as you say. You have done more then you can possibly imagine.”.   She explained to him that if he had not persevered and solved the M. Puzzle, Yami would not have been released and learn what it meant to be human. She also explained that Pegasus would have gone unchecked and his childish terror would have festered part of the world. Then, her brother and his yami would have defeated Pegasus and use the extra powers to rule the world and plunge it into darkness. On top of that, Dartz would have been battling him for control of it and both would end up leveling the entire planet.   “Also Yugi, your friends would have ended up far worse if they had not met you. I believe that their paths would have either ended abruptly, or badly crooked. I tell you the truth now, for if not for you and your actions Yugi Motou… the world would literally be a wasteland.”, she finished.   Yugi whispered, “I… I hadn’t thought about that. But still, what do I do now? I just feel so empty and trapped.”.   Ishizu shook her head slightly and replied, “I do not know. You must search for that answer on your own. But, do not dispair Yugi-sama. I know that the answer will come to you, and you will know what to do. Plus, I have faith in you. As do many, in this world and beyond.”.   Yugi was about to ask something, but when he turned his head to face her… she was gone. He looked frantically to find her, but it seemed that she disappered. ‘Even without her Necklace, she is still mysterious.’, he thought.   He took one last look at the lake, sighed then got up to head back to the Kame Game Shop. As he walked back, he started to remember her words. “Perhaps… maybe I did do some honorable things. Maybe there is a way to make my life have so much worth in it.”, he told himself.   He then decided to go searching for a good college, scholarship or no scholarship. ‘That’s the first step. I don’t know what else lies beyond that, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.’, he told himself.   As he walked down, he remembered a song that he once heard some time ago. It was from an American movie called “The Prince of Egypt” and it was based on a story in a religious text called the Bible. He sang it to himself in his head while walking towards home, it giving him a sense of peace and wisdom.   A single thread in a tapestry   Though its color brightly shines   Can never see its purpose   In the pattern of the grand design.   And the stone that sits on the very top   Of the mountain mighty face   Does it think its more important   Then the stones that form the base?   So, how can you see what your life is worth   Or where your value lies?   You can never see through the eyes of man   You must look at your life   Look at your life through Heaven’s eyes.   Lai-la-la…   A lake of gold in the desert sand   Is less then a cool fresh spring.   And to one lost sheep, a Shepard boy   Is greater then the richest king.   If a man loses everything he owns   Has he truly lost his worth?   Or is this the beginning   Of a new and brighter birth?   So how can you measure the worth of a man   In wealth or strength or size?   In how much he gained or how much he gave?   The answer will come   The answer will come to him who tries   To look at his life through Heaven’s eyes.   And that’s why we share all we have with you   Though’s there is little to be found   When all you got is nothing   There’s a lot to go around.   No life can escape being blown about   By the winds of change and chance.   And though you never know all of the steps   You must learn to join the dance.   You must learn to join the dance!   Lai-la-la…   So how do you judge what a man is worth   By what he builds or buys?   You can never see with your eyes on earth   Look through Heaven’s eyes.   Look at your life   Look at your life   Look at your life through Heaven’s eyes!   When he finally came home and closed the door, all of the Egyptain and Japanese gods/goddesses were watching down on him. “Finally. The boy has come to see on how much he is worth, and what he needs to do in order to get to the path of peace.”, Ra stated calmly.   “Will he ever find peace? Truly?”, one of the Japanese kami’s inquired.   “I do not know entirely. I do know that his life will be get even more tougher from here on in, but the end will really be worth it.”, Hathor replied.   Well, at least there were some Powers watching over Yugi. But, what was most important to all was that he finally realized that his worth and now working hard to go through the dead end he was in.   (Author’s Notes: Well, how do you like this one? The high school and college I mentioned, I went to those school. I’m still at UTSA, and I transferred and graduated from Medina Valley High School. Still, it was cool to put them in here.   Darien: So, what do you think of this song? Also, what do you think Yugi has to do next in order to achieve his dream of a better future? What would you have done if you were in his place?   R&R, no flames, enjoy, and leave long reviews!)
