Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Snowblind(Chapter 4) ❯ Chapter 4
This is for Animom's fic challenge to write a fourth chapter to her fic Snowblind.
Disclaimer: Uhm, not mine? Not even the original idea was really mine, as it was created by Animom. Oh, and this chapter is brought to us by the cruel awakenings of my idiotic muses after I read this fic a third time. *bows* This is, therefore, not my fault!

Yuugi was having a nightmare. He was twisting and turning and making strange whining sounds. It was the first movement he'd made since he'd collapsed back at the tournament, unless you counted his slow, shallow breaths. The doctors were panicking. They still couldn't reach the boy's legal guardian, and Kaiba hadn't checked in since leaving in his plane, and, oh yeah, Yuugi wouldn't wake up from his nightmare.
They'd tried everything. From shaking him, to pouring a little water on him, to calling his name in his ear. Nothing worked. His heart rate had sped up and they feared a heart attack. They had to wake him.
"Jounouchi-kun...." Yuugi moaned suddenly. The room stilled, waiting for more, leaving his thrashings as the only sounds. "NO!" He screamed, sitting up suddenly and opening his eyes.
The doctors were on him in moments, trying to calm him. Everyone was relieved he was awake. "It's okay now, son. You're safe."
"I'm safe?! Where's Jounouchi-kun?! Where's Kaiba-kun?! Are they safe?!" Yuugi hollered, eyes bloodshot and terrified.
Silence filled the room. Where was Kaiba?
"We.....don't know....." A nurse whispered.
Yuugi folded in on himself, moaning. "Oh no no no no no...."
"What is it?" A male nurse asked kindly, rubbing Yuugi's back soothingly.
"They....they got into a crash in the mountains and they were hurt and freezing and....and...." Yuugi couldn't bring himself to say what else he'd seen. His best friend realizing just how in love with the cold CEO he was.
"Hurt? How?" A doctor frowned. A report he'd over-heard that had come in about a crash in the mountains just a little north of the hospital had come to mind. He'd nearly forgotten it, but....
"Kaiba-kun had glass in his left eye and might go blind....and....Jounouchi-kun had hurt his right shoulder.....and the pilot....he was dead....." Yuugi managed before breaking down into sobs completely. The male nurse hugged him close, trying to comfort him. Another nurse brought some water.
The doctor ran from the room and back to the reception desk where the call had come in. "Tatsu-san, that call you got earlier about the plane crash...." He breathed, stopping next to the man who'd received the call.
"The battery in the phone went dead. We never tracked it down. Why?" Tatsu glanced at the doctor questioningly.
"What were the names of the passengers?"
"Jounou..." Tatsu scratched his head. "I don't know. You know how I am with na- Hey!" He called after the doctor, who was already running down the hall.
The doctor skidded to a halt outside the emergency pilot's resting room and knocked on the door. The door opened to show a tired looking young woman. "Whazzit?" She slurred.
"There's a plane trapped in the mountains with two passengers possibly still alive. The exact location is unknown." The doctor said quickly.
The woman perked up. "A challenge, eh?" She poked her head back into the room. "Yama, I'm gonna take this, k?"
"Whatever." A male voice replied from within. "Just get back alive, Mia. I wasn't done with you yet."
Mia, the female pilot, smirked. "Oh, I'll think about it." She closed the door behind her, nodding to the doctor. "Hwang Mia." She offered.
"Ichiro." The doctor nodded in reply.
"You doctors are so stingy." Mia shrugged, leading the way up to the rescue helicopter. "You're flying with me, I assume?"
"Yes."
"Me too!" A pale kid, Yuugi, latched himself to the doctor's side. A group of nurses stopped near them, panting heavily.
"Look, Yuugi...." Ichiro tried.
"They're my friends! And I have a better idea of where they are than you do!" Yuugi insisted.
Mia pulled Yuugi from Ichiro and looked him over carefully. "How old are you, kid?" She inquired.
"Sixteen." Yuugi said proudly.
Mia glanced up at Ichiro, who nodded, then grinned at Yuugi. "Welcome aboard." Yuugi smiled brightly. Mia motioned to Ichiro, and, holding Yuugi's hand, continued to the helicopter. "It'll be a little cramped once we find your friends, but we'll be fine."
"If we find them." Ichiro grumbled, which earned him a glare from Yuugi.
"Oh, we'll find them." Mia nodded. She add that they probably wouldn't be alive any longer.
~ . ~ . ~ . ~ . ~ . ~
"There!" Yuugi pointed to a small blob of black that indicated a shadow, which was rare in this area.
Mia dropped the helicopter closer and they could make out the shape of the plane. "Ouch." Mia pointed to the right engine. Something had apparently torn it to shreds and fallen out after the crash.
"I wonder what it was...." Yuugi mumbled.
"Could have been anything. Of course, knowing this area, I might guess some ice or a large rock. It depends on how low they were flying. They may have even caught a bird." Mia shrugged.
"Poor bird." Ichiro offered.
"I won't be able to get much closer, and I doubt they'll hear if we call out to them." Mia glanced back at her two passengers. "Who'll go down?"
"I'll go." Yuugi offered immediately.
"You should be in a hospital." Ichiro grumbled.
"Oh, let him go, you grump." Mia snorted, then smiled at Yuugi. "There's a rope ladder attached to the ground in front of the door next to you. Unhook it and toss it out the door. Then you can climb down. My suggestion, don't look down."
Yuugi nodded and sent the ladder down as Mia positioned the helicopter. "Okay." Yuugi muttered, then started down the ladder, keeping Mia's warning in mind to not look down.
Once on the plane, he'd climbed through the broken windshield, he latched the end of the ladder to a random switch and padded back to where the tent was set up, hugging himself against the chill. He poked his head into the flap and couldn't help but smile at the way the two boys were curled together. "Jounouchi-kun? Kaiba-kun?"
"Who's there?" Kaiba croaked.
"It's Yuugi." The small duelist entered the tent to warm up a little.
"How?" Kaiba whispered.
"I-" Yuugi shook his head. "There's a helicopter from the hospital outside."
"Oh..." Kaiba silenced.
"Can you get up? Is Jounouchi-kun de-" Yuugi couldn't say it.
Kaiba was silent for a while. "I don't think so.... That the mutt's dead, I mean. I can't move without....help..." Kaiba mumbled, admitting to his weakness.
"I can unzip the sleeping bag. And help you out. Neither of us can carry Jounouchi-kun. The sensei in the helicopter might be able to come and get him."
"Yeah... That should work..." Kaiba muttered, only half awake.
"Kaiba-kun, you have to stay awake." Yuugi begged, kneeling to unzip the bag.
"Now you tell me." Kaiba muttered under his breath.
Yuugi paused. "Was that a joke?"
"No, I was totally serious." Kaiba's voice dripped with sarcasm.
"You definitely need help." Yuugi shook his head. He finished unzipping the bag and pulled it back slightly.
Jounouchi moaned.
"Jounouchi?" Kaiba whispered.
Yuugi sat back and watched Kaiba run his hands through Jounouchi's hair softly. He smiled, thinking about how good they looked together.
Jounouchi seemed to cuddle a little closer to Kaiba. "Cold...."
"Jounouchi, Yuugi's here...." Kaiba started. He quieted as Jounouchi spoke again.
"Thank you...." Jounouchi whispered against Kaiba's chest. Then he was still.
Yuugi bit his lip, a single tear sliding down his cheek. "Kaiba-kun?"
"Go on." Kaiba's lips curled into a pained smile. "Tell Mokuba I love him for me."
"No! Kaiba, come on, you can't die too!" Yuugi begged.
Kaiba didn't answer. He never would again.
Yuugi kissed both boys on the tops of their heads and left, eyes wet with tears. He climbed back up to the helicopter. "Let's go." He managed, tears sliding down his cheeks.
"They're dead?" Ichiro asked as Mia turned the helicopter back to the hospital.
"No. Not really." Yuugi offered a smile. "They'll always be here." He pointed to his heart. "And, that's where they'd want to be."

Okay, most of its unrealistic, and probably OOC, and the original characters could have been less, but...whatever. It's just my normal crap. I suppose I'm embarrassed to be putting this up as a final chapter to a fic much better piece together than I could ever do, but we all do odd things, so, yeah....
Anyway, I'm posting this on MM.O, AFF, and FF.N under Katmon(Well, FF.N's screename has evolved, but, oh well...). *bows*
Peace Out
