Author's Note: PLEASE READ: IMPORTANT! Newly revised - instead of being Tristan and Téa (from my moment of insanity), it's now Yami and Téa. *grin* It's set when they're still in school, but they're living together in a massive house Yugi's Grandpa bought. The story is based on Trick or Treat by Richie Tankersley Cusick (Point Horror), and I've used some paragraphs from the story, but modified a little. All credit to Richie for those paragraphs, and credit to me for the modifications! No infringement intended. I DON'T OWN YU-GI-OH. Let me warn you now, I don't know much about the actual card game, so there is no detail about duels - only a mention that a duel is going on.

When writing stories, I usually listen to music to inspire me. If you have the album Fallen by Evanescence, that's the one used to inspire this story. Track 5, Haunted is the best song on the album, and relates the most to this story!

Dedicated to Clare Woodward and my big sis Li, who I introduced to Yu-Gi-Oh and got her hooked!

Wake Not The Guardian

Prologue

Yugi Moto looked up at the house, standing out against the almost black sky. His friends, Tristan Taylor, Téa Gardner and Joey Wheeler stood behind him.

" Creepy," Joey murmured.

Yugi nodded. " Grandpa says it's all right when you get inside."

" Anything would be better than this," Tristan said. " Look - it's falling apart!"

As if to prove his point, a shutter at one of the higher windows banged in the wind and part of the wood fell off in time to a distant rumble of thunder.

" Let's get inside before we get wet," Téa said, shivering, feeling the first drops of rain.

No one noticed the shadow that stood in the corner of a window and watched them. It turned away with a flourish and there was a glint of gold before it was gone.
