Chapter 3: Disappointment
She woke up the next morning to the sun dimly shining in her face. Opening her eyes she saw that Hiei was still sleeping peacefully on the windowsill. She pulls the covers off herself, yawning almost inaudibly. Swinging her legs over to the side, she stands up. Hiei made a loud huffing noise at the window and she debated on whether or not to wake him. Figuring he'd be angry no matter what she did she woke him.
He jumps, grabs her and slams her up against the wall causing her to wince painfully. “Do not do that you Baka onna.” He yells. “I'm sorry, Hiei, I didn't mean to upset you. I just don't know where I'm supposed to go.” She says. He could tell by her voice that she meant it and dropped her.
He started towards the door stopping infront of it. “Are you coming or not?” She looks up and nods, standing herself up. She walks closely behind him, easily keeping up with him. He would look at her from the corner of his eye to make sure she could keep up. She noticed but thought nothing of it.
When they neared the end of the hallway she could hear voices. She looked up at him nervously; she wasn't used to being near so many free people. She usually kept to herself and Takedo.
The thought of Takedo saddened her and she stared back at the floor. The voices were suddenly silent when she entered the room. She looked up as someone approached her. It was a boy with red hair and emerald green eyes. “Hello, My name is Shuichi Minnamino, but you may call me Kurama. May I ask your name?” She had barely heard his words noticing Hiei no longer stood next to her. “My name is Tala, I haven't got a last name.” She replied.
“What's wrong, you don't seem well.” He asks concerned.
“It's nothing, I'm fine.” She says.
“She wants to go find her dragon.” A voice from the other side of the room said. She looked over and saw Hiei sitting on the windowsill.
“I thought you said you'd killed that dragon.” He said confused.
“Takedo is immune to fire techniques.” Tala replies.
“Well, I'm sure Hiei had already volunteered to help you look, right.” Kurama says. He was expecting her to say no, but then sees her nod and looks over to Hiei. He looks back to her. “Well, why don't I introduce you to everyone.” He points out each person, saying their names as he does. “Hello.” Here shy voice replies to them.
“Now, why don't I show you your room.”
“Room?” she says confused.
“Well yes, didn't Hiei tell you that you were going to stay. Of course you don't have to, but we figured you might need a place to stay.”
She cocks her head. “Would Takedo be able to stay as well; he can become as small as a kitten.”
“Of course he could stay. Might I ask where he came from though?”
“I found him before I moved over here. The man who had bought me was cruel so we ran.” She says recalling the bad memories he had given her.
He stares off as if thinking about something, then looks back down to her and leads her to her room. The room he led he to was plain, but she loved it. It was upstairs and she had a balcony, which had a tree branch nearby. She turned around and thanked him.
“No problem, Tala. I'm glad you like it. Oh and a friend of ours is going to pay for you to get some new clothes. You'll be going tomorrow.” He smiled at her, “Now why don't we go back.” She nodded and followed out of the room.
Once they make it back into the room, Botan rushes back in the door. “You guys, Koenma wants you to meet him now.” Tala looks up and watches them go through some weird swirling hole, as she described it. She waved good-bye to them. Hiei went through last, turning to her with an apologetic look. She just smiled at him and waved good-bye.
Once they were gone she turned to the other girls. Smiling sweetly she went to sit down by them. She asked them a few questions about their missions.
“Do they take long?”
“Some do I don't think this one will though.”
“Can they get hurt?” This one meant most to her. She hadn't known them for very long but she didn't want them to get hurt.
“Sometimes, but Botan said that this one would be easier so they should be fine.”
“Oh, okay. Thanks.” She said. She got up and walked back to her new room.
`Guess I won't be seeing Takedo for a while. Oh well Hiei was he should be able to take care of himself. I just hope they'll be alright.' She grew weary and collapsed on her bed.
She awoke the next morning to Botan pounding on her door telling her to wake up. They had to go shopping for clothes today, an event she was not particularly fond of. Even so she did not protest, but got up and got ready. She had to borrow an outfit from Yukina. They were surprised to see that she was so skinny. They hadn't noticed before because Hiei had dressed her wounds.
They ate breakfast and left before noon. When they got there they had tried to drag her to one of their favorite stores. She dreaded going there. It had mostly pink clothes. They stayed there for a while, but she didn't like any of the things they showed her. Then Yukina spotted Hot Topic across the mall. She grabbed Tala's hand and dragged her to that store.
She loved the clothes they had there. They were done before the others had even realized that they had disappeared.
“Ya know my brother would love your style.” Yukina says smiling brightly.
“Who's your brother?” Tala asks curiously.
“Hiei”
“Oh”
“There you guys are! We've been looking all over for you!” shouted a frustrated Botan from across the mall, “Where were you?”
“Tala didn't really like those clothes so I took her to Hot Topic. We've finished our shopping.” Yukina said softly.
Botan took the bags and peered inside, sighing as she gave them back. “These look more like Hiei's clothes. Oh well if that's what she wants.” Tala smiled and carried her bags out of the mall.
Once they got far enough into the forest, Botan called a portal. The portals made her stomach sick for a little while but it never really bothered her too much.
Once they arrived back, she ran up the stairs and put her things away. She rested on her bed. She was depressed, Botan had said they wouldn't be gone long. She figured she was overreacting. There was a knock on the door. “Come in.” The door creaked open revealing Yukina. She smiled and sat beside Tala.
“I'll be making dinner soon. Do you want to help?” Tala nodded.
“What are we making?” She asked as they passed through the hall again.
“Spaghetti.”
“I don't know how to make spaghetti, I've never even tasted it before.” Tala says. This was true; she had never tasted any kind of home cooked meal before.
“Well then I guess now is a great time to learn.”
They spent an hour in the kitchen cooking the spaghetti. Tala was a quick learner, so after they finished she could cook it very well.
When everyone finished eating they went to the living room and watched a movie. It wasn't very entertaining because the others girls liked romances. She didn't really want to stay and watch it so she went to her room.
She'd begun to drift off but was startled awake when she heard a slight bang. She ran down the stairs. What she saw nearly made her heart stop.
Cyra: HA HA. Cliffe. Deal with it. Two weeks off. Yeah.
