I'm an avid fanfiction reader, especially for inuyasha - I cannot even TELL you how much I love this. It's 1 in the morning here, I have an anatomy final, and I can't. stop. reading. I have this ff bookmarked and I swear I should get an update when you update this - I'm obsessed. Keep up the good work - i've laughed at parts, and I've even cried for kagome a little. Sesshoumaru reminds me of my own boyfriend with his privacy, so it's incredibly endearing to potentially see things through his eyes. I love this. Wow. Looks like Kagome let all of the doubts go to seed. I'd say that Inuyasha succeeded in putting a wedge between them, even if only temporarily. I felt so bad for Kagome. While I don't think Sesshomaru's taking the right tactic by hiding his intentions to apply for a job at her father's company, I also know that he had that in mind before he knew it WAS Kagome's father's company. If he had only been open about it once he knew. I could so clearly see Kagome pacing, worrying. As much as she tried to convince herself that what Inuyasha had said was wrong, it nagged at the back of her mind. I can't entirely blame her for snooping into Sesshomaru's room. However, I think whatever wedge Inuyasha could have driven between them pales in comparison to her invasion of his privacy. She knows he's private, that he values it utterly, and because she couldn't wait to confront him, she invades it. I'd also have to say that despite what the reader knows to be true (ie: Sesshomaru IS seeking a job at her father's company), that Kagome is allowing Inuyasha's doubt seeds to bloom without thinking it over. She finds the evidence of the internship applications, and decides that Inuyasha was right. Sesshomaru is using her. It's a prime example of how a relationship built on secrecy is a house of cards. I think if Sesshomaru hadn't come home right then to find her in his room she might have come to that conclusion as well. I'd have to say that the fact this is out will actually advance the relationship. I say that because there won't be any more hiding or withholding. It'll take awhile for the two of them to trust one another again---although if you truly think about it, neither one did trust the other in the first place. It'll also take awhile for them to actually want to be with one another, but I don't think they'll be able to help themselves. If anything, they'll now know where things stand. I think there's going to be a lot of hurt from here on out. There will be some things said and done that will make things worse before it gets better. Somehow, now that Inuyasha has blown his brother out of the water, I don't think he'll get what he wants. He's hiding truth from her, too. He's never told her how he knows Sesshomaru or that he's Sesshomaru's half brother----and that he's doing the same thing he accused Sesshomaru of doing. I think Kagome will have to tread very carefully from here on out. The same will go for Sesshomaru. He wants Kagome. He knows that he wants her. But, he also wants to take over his father's company through her father's company. I wonder, now that things are exposed, can he truly have his cake and eat it, too? Will he have to choose one or the other? If Inuyasha knows of this, I'd have to guess that Sesshomaru's father knows, too. If that's the case, then Sesshomaru will have been doomed from the start. I look forward to seeing where this goes next, and what thread unravels next. Things have certainly heated up. I have a funny feeling there's a lot more mines to explode.

I must admit that I feel Kagome's pain. Here's so so close to having it all with Sesshomaru, and then he's always keeping her at arm's length just when things get hot and heavy. Talk about the mixed signals that are swirling throughout her head. I can't imagine knowing that my boyfriend is hiding something from me. I can imagine just how frustrating it is to finally being intimate with him only to be turned away at the last moment. It's no wonder she ends up having to find her release by her own hand. I know I'd have to if I lived with him and hadn't gotten anywhere. As the reader, we know why Sesshomaru's doing these things, and yet it still is hard to watch how that effects their relationship. If Sesshomaru isn't careful, he'll eventually push her away. I just hope that Kagome can continue to be aggressive. She's much closer than she knows to getting what she wants from him. I'm not surprised that Inuyasha was there to console her. While I don't think he's entirely prying into the situation for her sake, I do sense the concern is genuine. I think he's very much in the exact same place Sesshomaru is in concerning Kagome and a relationship with her, be it romantic or friendship. I sense Inuyasha's desperation in this scene, actually. The reason he ends up telling Kagome Sesshomaru's plans is because he's hoping she might leave his brother for him. As much as we've seen what their father does to Sesshomaru, I have a funny feeling that off the page Inuyasha has just as much pressure put upon him to succeed---if not more so for being the bastard son. I think while Kagome demands that Inuyasha prove his allegations, she believes them. It also does put that doubt in her that if he won't tell her this than what else could he be hiding. If Sesshomaru isn't careful he might find himself holding a ticking time bomb. I sense that this is where the plot is starting to truly thicken. Up until now, we've only seen Sesshomaru's machinations inside his head about what it is he wants to do with minimal push back from his father. We're finally starting to see where this is all going, if only due to Inuyasha's utter desperation. I think from here on out the outside world will rock both Kagome and Sesshomaru's inner world. I look forward to following it through and just what other obstacles might emerge, especially upon the heels of such a revelation. As always, the writing is crisp, flowing, and wonderful. Is it next Sunday yet?

I hope that the wait was worth it. I know I really enjoyed this chapter, hence why I had to re-read it first. I can see why it is your favorite chapter in the series. This chapter started off so much more openly affectionate than we've seen thus far. Sesshomaru isn't holding Kagome completely at arms length, as he once had. He's allowing her to kiss him, and in public no less. He's saying things that I don't believe he would have said a few short chapters ago. He's also acknowledging feelings that he's been aware of but denying up until now. If it weren't for the complications of the situation, I firmly believe he would have let a lot more of his walls drop by now and advance it a bit further. Perhaps not so much in the physical sense as the emotional, but advanced just the same. I also see how we approach Sesshomaru in similar ways. He's rather charming in this first section here. He's not stiff or aloof in any way until Kagome's left him, when his thoughts can invade once more. I've always thought that his potential to be charming is under utilized within fandom. Sometimes I wonder if I'm over-thinking this, It's about time! He should have realized that he was way overthinking things ages ago. As much heartache as he's trying to advert due to the business manipulations of his father, if he continues to overthink he'll eventually make this relationship blow up in his face. He's gotta learn something from Kagome about being emotional here. I like how the mention of the stuck door is brought into play again. It just puts you right into the scene, even before he realizes that something is amiss with Kagome. He's so lost the moment she throws herself into his arms, isn't he? It's just so funny sometimes how such a capable and controlled character as Sesshomaru can be that he will be thrown completely off balance by something like this. I see we see along the same lines when it comes to shaking his world up a bit. If there is one emotion he hates, it is that of panic. He also suffers, probably due to his overthinking, from the bad case of the "what ifs." As one of my favorite characters of all time would say, what ifs won't get you anywhere, so don't do them. I love how, even though he's aware that he's crossing his own lines, he's going to give Kagome this massage. I'm sure the lead in to it made people think it was going to be sexytimez, but I'm glad that it wasn't. I also think it's a tell that while he's angry with his father, when it's done he mentions that his mother used to administer them to both of them after a session in the dojo. He may not get along with his father, but there's so much more to their relationship than what we've seen thus far. On another note, can you send Sesshomaru to my house so I can get a world class massage like that? No seriously. I've had a mosh pit injury that flares up in my back since 2005. I think it'd fix it. I can't wait to see where this goes, especially now that at the end of this chapter Sesshomaru crosses that big line. Sunday can't come fast enough.

Inuyasha is deceptively subtle, isn't he? He really gleaned a lot of information out of this lunch. I don't think Kagome even noticed how he nudged her to open up here and there on strategic matters concerning her father's company. It's probably the first chapter that Sesshomaru doesn't make an appearance in, yet I noticed the emails had him protesting to his father. Even in emails his father can't help but make a swipe. I also got the impression, even if it is for show to some degree, that these tactics and behaviors disgust Inuyasha. He might be playing the game, but that doesn't mean he has to like it. I do think that his sympathy was genuine, however. He understands how Kagome feels about losing a parent, and while it can garner him more confidences with her, he means it when he tells her that he's sorry. It doesn't mean that he'll miss a chance to pump her for information, though. I get the feeling that while he got this information it's already common knowledge to his father. Perhaps the only thing that he needed to absolutely verify is who had a vote on the board and who didn't within Kagome's family. So it's almost Valentine's Day, eh? Why do I get the feeling that this hasn't crossed Sesshomaru's mind at all? Speaking of him, Inuyasha certainly made Kagome comfortable enough to spill the beans, and spill them she did. I think he knew that his brother was his competition, but I don't know if he knew he was the competition for Kagome's affections. I think this will make things much more difficult for Kagome and Sesshomaru down the road, especially as their father puts the screws to Inuyasha to close the deal. Again, I do think Inuyasha is sincere in his vow to protect her if Sesshomaru should hurt her. He may be pursuing her friendship---and more---at his father's behest, but he truly cares for her, too. His manner around her speaks to that. Up until now, I don't think Inuyasha's had many friends, either. Kagome could be a real friend, and I think he knows that. If it had been any other circumstance, they probably would have been without any shadiness lurking. Best line/quote of the whole chapter: "Hey, rules of the road - that's why most guys never want their girlfriends to have other guy friends. We're a protective lot." I can't wait to see just where this leads next.

Reality was almost sweeter than the fantasy. I actually enjoy the idea of them taking this relationship slowly. Despite all of Sesshomaru's internal misgivings and his disgust at his father's machinations, he'll take the risk on her anyways. I'm seeing a subtle shift from his head to his heart, and I'm enjoying the ride. I have no doubt that he'll continue to have a further tug of war between the two as we continue in the story. I'm not surprised to see him at the same cafe as Inuyasha and Kagome, either. Or his reactions to his brother being with Kagome, for that matter. He clearly wants to be with her and the fact that he knows her true identity makes it so very hard on him. He's also super competitive and isn't about to let his brother win the contest. I'd say it's a part of his male ego coming out to play. He's couching it in honor and protection, but we all know better. On one hand, he truly means it, but on the other he sees the challenge and is willing to meet it. I have a feeling it also comes from the fact that Kagome is not like the other girls he dated in the past. He's challenged by winning her heart for business reasons just as much as the pure challenge of her. She's fiery and stubborn, and he needs someone who will push back on him. I think he knows this, too, even if he's trying to deny his feelings for her. Again, language in this chapter was beautiful and fit the situation. I loved the lines: His eyes wandered aimlessly over the page as his mind kicked restlessly, refusing to absorb the information offered. and There was a soft thump behind him as she dropped the spatula; for a moment, they could only stare at each other, chests heaving, hearts beating in unison. I think these stuck out so much to me because I could see them so clearly. They put me right into the story. I loved their dinner. It was going so well at the start, and his internal debate had to nearly ruin it. I'm glad that he had the sense to notice her upset in time before she could leave the kitchen. It's showing his character growth brilliantly, too. I also love how she took him by surprise. I don't think he realized until then that she can read him. She knows he's hiding something, and she called him on it. It was nice to see them have a realistic conversation. So many stories have a conversation between the two romantic leads end in a fight and then an awkward make-out session. Here they realize and vocalize that there is something between the two of them and that they should take it slowly. I know Sesshomaru has his reservations about telling Kagome the truth of the situation, but she did tell him that she's a big girl. He should take that to heart. I have no doubt in mind that he'll regret it if he doesn't tell her in time. She values openness and honesty. The more he finds out about her and reveals her true self under his party-girl preconceptions, he'll find that out. If he just talks to her about what he knows, I have a feeling that he'll be surprised by her reaction. I do look forward to see how this is all resolved and how this comes to light. Most of all, I can't wait to see more romantic scenes like these between them. There's such a spark and connection. They just have to bridge the gaps.

As usual, you've done an awesome job!! I can just imagine how hard it is for Sesshomaru to hold himself in, especially with such a dick for a boss. The man is just too hateful to even comprehend. I can also feel for Sesshomaru's agony with having to wait to show Kagome what he really feels and the jealousy that is in him because of the relationship of Kagome and Inuyasha. It's really obvious that he doesn't want to trust him due to past behavior but is forced to for his plan to be successful and for Kagome. So much turmoil, so much angst, so much drama!!! I lubs it all!!! I've told you before I've not been a Kagome/Sess fan but this is one story I follow faithfully and actually want Sesshomaru to get the girl. I need to lay down, I can't believe I said that!!! Until the next time...

Wow. Seems like to me that Kagome's in the wrong major. That girl should go into creative writing. I wish my dreams were that---enticing. I really loved the descriptive details you tossed in. Not many people will use the word "pectoral" in their smexy writing. They should. I noticed that the Sesshomaru in Kagome's mind was a bit OOC, but hey, it's her fantasy. Hell, I can't really blame her. It really set up the reader for the later scene in the kitchen when she was actually awake and trying to make her move. I loved how awkward and brave it was. She knew it could have blown up in her face, but she did it anyways. Sesshomaru may have been hesitant and distant, but he really seemed to like the attention. He must feel so trapped, considering what he now knows about Kagome and what his father intends---not to mention how a relationship with her could benefit him. This whole scene stuck out clearly in my mind for some reason. They both really want to be together, and Kagome's trying to make an effort, but with all of his barriers and her insecurity, it won't happen over night. It's not going to be an easy relationship by any means. I got the feeling that Sesshomaru was rather down about not being able to meet her for lunch. Kagome's really trying to prove to him that she's not the party girl. Outside of his father's ambitions for her, I think Sesshomaru would have been much more receptive towards her. I also must commend you for this scene because too often romance is shown to be so easy, breezy, and carefree. So much of the time the storyteller has the couple in question share one kiss and suddenly they're all fine and dandy and declaring their undying love. The couple becomes a sound foundation. It's not really like that. The fact that they're fumbling in the dark makes the story that much more appealing. I'm not surprised that Inuyasha managed to meet up with Kagome after their class. He seems to be genuine, even if his father's pulling his strings to a degree. I got the feeling from this section that he wants to get to know her and does truly like her. I also got the sense that while he's doing what his father wants that he hates it. If he could, I think Inuyasha would do anything else. He pretty much said it himself when he said that he had no head for numbers. Even though he's down about Kagome not being available, I get the impression he wants Kagome in his life in any capacity. His father can't make him feel all that warm and fuzzy, after all. I like the touch that you threw in from canon concerning his character. The fact that he adores ramen in this story as much as he does in the manga just made me laugh. I also got the sense that Inuyasha has a protective streak, also another canon characteristic. The more I read of this story, the more I start to think. I'm pretty sure if I re-read it and re-reviewed it I'd find something new to touch upon. The best stories have that ability on the reader. I'd say the biggest thing I love about this story is your choice of language. Not many fanfic writers take the time to pick the right word to describe something. I adored this line: As he stepped under the spray, his shimmering hair became the color of molten silver, clinging to his face, his neck, his shoulders before he brushed it away. There's such beauty in this single line. I can clearly see this and it is such a fresh description. It's really hard to describe Sesshomaru's hair in a new manner that doesn't bore or cause the reader to skim. I really look forward to seeing much more of the story in the coming weeks. I know I could probably keep reading and keep reviewing all night, but I want to savor the story. It's probably the best compliment I could give, knowing how much I like to hear the same from my readers. So, until next week.

I know it's been ages since I properly reviewed this story, but with football season nearly over (Super Bowl Sunday next week), I thought I'd get back into it! It's completely official. I hate Sesshomaru's father. What an asshole. I wanted to shake Sesshomaru from the very start of this chapter, I must say. He has to eliminate the head when it comes to the heart---at least on some level. If he truly wishes to capture Kagome, he will have to give into it wholly. Kagome won't expect anything less. It's also why I think Inuyasha will ultimately fail with her in the long run. He's not with her for her. He's with her because money bags daddy said to be with her. It makes me agree with Sesshomaru's warning all the more---Inuyasha, at least in this AU, is BAD news. It's interesting to see the tussle between Sesshomaru's emotional and rational mind. You've got such a great handle on his character here and it just fascinates me to see how you approach it. On one hand, he sees Kagome as, at first, an obstacle to what he wants in his plot to take over his father's company, and then as an asset. Rationally, he knows to get what he wants he'll have to go full bore to win her. Emotionally, and because of his honor, he won't do it simply to get the leg up at the company he wants a job at. Kagome means too much to him for that---even if he doesn't really know why. I think Sesshomaru truly wants to be with Kagome. He just has this difficultly with separating personal and private. I think he must sit down, too, and contemplate what is really important in life. I see that Sesshomaru is competitive, resents his father's disapproval, and really wants to show his father up, but he also has no real desire to be like his father. His father is dishonorable in the methods he uses in his business. Sesshomaru can't stomach such dealings, and won't employ such tactics. I do think his father, albeit clever and sly in the business realm, has made a critical error. He is forgetting that Kagome is an individual and a person in this equation. She's not going to be very happy when she finds out that Inuyasha's only been treating her with such attention because it'll help him advance his father's take over of her father's company. Kagome will show off her spunk, her temper, and ultimately spurn Inuyasha in the end. I just hope she won't do the same to Sesshomaru---who seems to genuinely want her for her and not necessarily for business reasons. I just don't think it'll be simple for these two to get where they want to be---even when this plot unravels. I also see that Sesshomaru's making a mistake in his own reasoning. He has an idea that love makes one vulnerable. Given his family's infighting and double dealings, it's no wonder. I think he's just discovering, however, that it doesn't have to be complicated---and that scares him. Thus far, I think everyone around him in his life has had some ulterior motive. They want to do something for him, but only if it'll benefit him. Or in the reverse. I think he has to rethink and re-approach this situation carefully, or Kagome will think that he's no better than Inuyasha in the long run. I loved how you described his mental replaying of the New Year's Eve kiss. He is so totally rattled by this. I have a funny feeling, even if he told himself, regardless of his father's plans, that he wanted to stop it right here and right now that he couldn't. It's too late. He's given in, and while it is a single kiss, it's more than enough to make him keep coming back. I really can't wait to see how it all plays out. Hopefully Sesshomaru won't just sit on his hands for too long---and play into his father's hands. Inuyasha's really rather pathetic here, letting himself be nothing more than a pawn. I'm sure I'll enjoy how you make it work out---no matter how many twists and turns there are along the way.

*squee* Better late than never, right? So sorry for the late response to this AWESOME chapter that I have been ABSOLUTELY DYING FOR! I was sooooo happy with this chapter like you cannot even imagine. All the characters are so beautifully expressed - Sesshoumaru's coldness, InuYasha's hesitancy in some matters and open-heartedness in others, and Kagome's willingness to listen to him even after everything that's happened... This is love, baby (and how DARE YOU MAKE ME LOVE A S/K FIC! *flails*) Kagome's attitude about the whole thing - finding neutral territory, trying to facilitate InuYasha's need to speak with his brother no matter how much he's been blown off - is so incredibly both in-character canonically AND fits well into the stronger Kagome you've rounded out a bit for this fic (as is generally necessary in an AU, of course). It's a beautiful blending of the two - you help her stand on her own without losing what makes her intrinsically her and I love it. *snickers* And of COURSE InuYasha would show up when he did - it'd have to be then, and not a moment earlier or later, because that's just the way he is (both in this world and canonically - which, again, you capture so beautifully I'm so damn jellus). The description of Sesshoumaru's growth from irritation to full-blown anger and Kagome's ability to differentiate the two was really well-played as well; well-written and a nice look at how close the two are growing. I always say it's a sign that my husband and I are close enough that he just knows when not to talk to me before I even open my mouth and that's something that's growing between Kagome and Sesshoumaru. Now - on to what I know you've been waiting for: MY REACTION TO INUYASHA OMG THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! \o/ When I read InuYasha's true motivations, I wanted to sing. I wanted to carve a statue of you out of butter. I wanted to cry tears of joy. I have remained firm in my stance that you would not make my boy the OMG-evil-one he always ends up as in SK fics and you have validated my hopes and dreams for this ^_^ I knew you wouldn't let me down!! I feel so awful for him, too - poor guy. He's been raised with his father as this elusive, amazing man. Raised to believe that his father could do no wrong, was fabulous, and then to face reality is so painful. I almost actually cried at his admission - he wants to go home, he wants to be with people who love him and care about him. Again, the beautiful blending of AU and Canon InuYasha - the searching for his place, the uncertainty of where he stands, makes this such a masterful piece and guarantees that it will remain among my favorites. *cheers* And I'm so excited to see what happens now... how will Kagome get the two to see eye-to-eye in order to face their father's scheme? Can the three pull it off? What could it mean for the future of the companies? This is so incredibly amazing... and it's a story about COMPANIES. And it's SK. I don't know how you've gotten me so absolutely obsessed but whatever it is, it's amazing.

I came across this story when I was looking through the Inuyasha Fan Guild nominations, and I can clearly see why it was nominated there!! The story is so engaging and interesting, well written and complexed! I find myself questioning Inuyasha's motives even now. I wonder if his father has something over him, and that's why he was so willing to act as his pawn, or if he is doing it of his own accord. I nearly screamed in outrage when he sent that "Checkmate" memo to Sesshoumaru! All I could think was, "That sneaky little bastard!!!" I am really interested in seeing more of this. I am a terribly picky reader, yet this has thoroughly drawn me in! Keep up the fantastic job on this and please update as soon as time and opportunity will permit! ~Sianna
