This is probably the best Shinji/Rei fic I've read, and one of my 10 favorite Eva fics of any type. I don't normally go for Shinji/Rei pairings (especially borderline lemon ones), but here it works very, very well. I really liked the use of music too, especially "My Immortal" at the end -- what a way to bring the emotional hammer down!
