I liked this a lot. I read about the beach incident as well, but it never got the gears rolling for me as it did for you. Good job following it up. Also, I think your portrayal of the Mazoku was very in character. I know this is just a one-shot, but I hope you might be able to flesh it out a bit more. Not add chapters to it--I don't mean that. Maybe being a little more on the descriptive side would help.
