Comment/Review:
This was a beautifully written piece that I am glad to have read once, but likely will not read again. The author's grasp of prose and the creation of a mood is quite firm, with lovely and evocative description of gestures, moments and small details of the humans in a given scene. Clearly, s/he knows how to write. I'm hesitant to fault it for being sad, as angst and drama certainly have their audience, but I feel that in order to justify something as dramatic as death, some new bit of knowlege, some insight into the character that could not otherwise be gained, should be offered. There was an intimation of this in Ogata's speech, however beyond that, the progression of the eternal rivals' lives and of Toya's death was not much different from what has been surmised in numerous other fictions. Perhaps one could praise the simplicity of this work... the sparse phrasing did have the tantalizing opacity of journalism, but I feel the author is talented enough that I would like to see him/her explore the characters more thoroughly without the "hook" of death. Death is a sledgehammer that hides what I feel could be an intrigueing grasp of the subtleties of these characters. In short, although I will not read this work again, I will be interested to see what work is offered next. There is great potential here.

I absolutely love this story. The length helps make it satisfying, and you've created a believable and detailed history for Akira, Hikaru & their friends. While the basic premise invites angst, the fic comes across as being a celebration of two lives rather than a an excuse for tragedy, which is a real accomplishment. I eagerly await the next update. :)
