Artist's Commentary
Blitz, a.k.a The Daughter of the In-Between, gets a makeover. I decided that she needed a better outfit to mirror her personality, along with something that would function well with her abilities. So I went for a pair of those nifty 'bondage pants' (I LOVE those pants... I think it's all the straps and zippers and crap), a pair of steel-toe-shit-kicker boots (which are colored and drawn horribly... DON'T LOOK AT THEM, DAMMIT!), and a ...uh... I can't decide if it's vinyl or latex, but a shiny shirt. o_o I would imagine getting it on would be quite difficult. The whole drawing itself took about four hours, from the pencils, inks, and CGs. All in all, a total of about a half a pack of cigarettes from start to end. x_x; Her hair, in the beginning, was in cornrows, but since they are a PAIN IN MY ASS to draw and color, I decided that she should have her hair down more often. Unfortunately, her hair, like mine, is very thick, and tends to do its own thing, hence why she wears it in braids. The concept sketches of her (which I did in 7th or 8th grade), have her hair in a bandanna most of the time, underneath which she had braids again, but they were much shorter. And as if it wasn't a challenge enough to figure out how to position 2 arms, Blitz has to go and have FOUR (even in the manga, Blitz has a hard time deciding what to do with her extra set of arms... outside of battle, that is.). I also had originally designed her to have green fur, but since Riki and Kayley and Ghul (one of the villains.. technically he has fur AND scales) have more than covered that department, Darwin has feathers, and Rhyssuss scales, I shaved Blitz's fur off and went with green skin. ^^ Not only is she a rather accomplished brawler (given that she can expand her muscle mass about 100 times), but she also knows a bit of magic (of a different Divine sort). The attempt at drawing her gathering magic (the lense-flared blurb, upper right hand arm) went over like a fart in church. But since my eyes were bothering me (my monitor's colors still haven't been fixed), I went with what I could best come up with. There's a lot more to Blitz and her origins than meet the eye (even she doesn't know why she was sent to Earth), which will hopefully be explained in further chapters of Strange Gods. (she is actually a main part the namesake of the manga title, if you hadn't figured that out yet). I really like her as a character. |
