Artist's Commentary
One of the color solutions (which is why it isn't shaded) for Riki, the Warrior-Monk from Strange Gods. He's also gotten a makeover. He still carries his big-ass twin katana (he's over 10 feet tall, so the katana are appropriately-sized), you just can't see 'em in this picture. His facial features remind me of Ogami Itto from Lone Wolf and Cub, in a way. And as for his personality... think of a huge, furry, Ishikawa Goemon from Lupin the III. ^^; Originally, he was nothing more than a Sabre-tooth anthro, with little to no backstory, simply that he was Kayley's guardian and mentor (he still is, actually). Now he's become a Lycan (like Kayley), a Sabretooth Tiger with a birth defect : he's stuck in his hybrid state. He can't shift to the full Sabre-form, or to human form. Now, he has a full-fledged backstory. The beads around his neck are reminicient of a Zen Buddhist monk, but Riki is a yamabushi, a Warrior-Monk. The beads belonged to his master... and are a big part of why this big lovable lug is still alive. I don't want to give away the details, because I'm planning on revealing them in the next story arc (which I need to get writing), but I assure you. It's all sorts of complicated and neat. :D |
