Beyblade Fan Fiction ❯ Bey-saga ❯ No complaining! ( Chapter 9 )

[ A - All Readers ]

I don't own Beyblade. All credit goes to Takao Aoki.
Lady Amazon: My sister and I are going to our second Anime Con! The first one sucked big time. It was in a small church and all they had was a concession stand, a small stage for lame game shows, anime movies that no one watched, and old video games that no one plays anymore. But she says this one will be better and bigger! I'm going as L from Death Note and she's going as Rukia from Bleach.
Shadow Clone number one: Big deal! You get to go and we have to stay here and draw comics! I want to see cute Japanese guys!
Lady Amazon: Drawing my comic is important! I want people possibly famous people who write and draw manga to see it! I want the president to see it!
Shadow clone number two: I see, I see… and presidents don't draw or read comics…
Shadow clone number one: Why don't they draw or read comics?
Shadow clone number three: Because they're busy running the country?
Silence
Lady Amazon: You know…Presidents don't cosplay either…

Once the time limit was up for them they logged out and gathered their things for the next class. Sai's face was still vividly red from what had transpired in Bey-saga when ray kissed her on the cheek. Her life time crush had kissed her on the cheek and she passed out. She felt so low; a normal girl wouldn't have made a big a deal as she had. Then again a normal girl would've killed her and just thinking about it scared her out of her mind. Kai and Ray went ahead to gym class to the boys locker room and Mai went with her sister to the locker room, the center of all evil at school, where the blade breaker fangirls come together to gossip. Mai and sai quickly change before the fangirls could spot them and hold them up and threaten them for being with the blade breakers so often. Mai really wanted to tell them that if they want to be friends with the blade breakers all they have to do is go up to them and say `Hey, let's be friends.' That's what she did when kai introduced her to the team and they became friends no problem. Sai on the other hand wanted to transfer schools to get away from the hassle of being mobbed.
The boys and girls gym class was being held outside because of gym testing. Mai and Sai were kind of thankful since they have been training with Ray and Kai for a while now so it shouldn't be too hard to do certain obstacles. First up were the boys running the track. As always Kai and Ray were tying in front while other boys were slowly picking up the rear, but not quite catching up to Kai and Ray. All the girls were sighing dreamily on the side lines at the sight of the two handsome boys running. Their untidy hair blowing in the wind…the sweat rolling down their faces and down their necks…the faint panting they gave as they ran faster was truly heaven for the fangirls. As the two boys crossed the finish line all the girls screamed even louder and tried to crowd them.
“Ladies! May I remind you this is P.E?!” The coach shouted at the girls and somehow pushed the girls far away from the track field. Mai and Sai stayed away from the crowd so they didn't have to be lumped with them. Kai and Ray walked over to them discreetly.
“Are you two ready?” Ray asked as he wiped his face of the sweat that he had worked up.
“As we'll ever be,” Sai responded back not looking him in the eye, “We'll give it our best shot.” She whispered. Mai cocked her head to the side, “Huh? I know I'll give it my best shot since I'm going to beat kai's record.” She challenged. Kai held his hands to show the way, “Go for it. The track is that way.”
Mai stuck her tongue out at him and headed to the track field with sai following after her stiffly. Mai seemed to have noticed her sister's uneasiness.
“What's up with you? Are you hungry?” She asked.
Sai shook her flustered face, “Something happened on Bey-saga…between me and ray.”
Mai smiled, “Judging by that blush on your face and the pause…I'm thinking he kissed you on the cheek or something close to that.”
Sai looked at her sister in shock. She was completely right. She wasn't there and she knew what happened. Mai laughed at her sister, “That's a big fat yes on that one. Ha-ha. You shouldn't fret about it, you should be glad. That's all the proof you need to know that ray is totally into you for real.” She assured her as she got into position on the track next to sai. Sai smiled and took a quick glance at ray who was talking to Kai.
“Maybe…” She whispered softly, “…He has been willing to help me out a lot and I do enjoy the times we spend together…just the two of us.” She then turned to her sister with a frantic face. “But what if it's just a friendship thing? He is really helpful to everyone and Mariah…” Mai cut her off. “Don't worry about that stuff. Mariah is nothing compared to someone like you. I've talked to kai and the others and they said that when Ray beybattled Mariah at the Asian Tournament, everyone misinterpreted that what they had was more than friendship. I even asked Ray about it and he said that he was restoring his friendship with her.”
Sai was lost in thought about the information. She didn't know what really to believe when it came to ray sometimes but she's willing to give everyone a chance. She decided her feelings for Ray. Despite what every girl may think of ray and what they think of her, it wouldn't matter if she was in love with ray!
“Thanks, mai.” Sai told her sincerely. Mai nodded as the coach to signal them to start running. The second they started jogging Sai smirked, “Why can't you be this insightful with Kai? You're mostly worried about my relationship than your own. If you don't be careful…Hilary will steal him from you.” Sai hinted tilting her towards kai and hilary. (Hilary accidentally twisted her ankle. Shadow clone number one said she's not responsible for what had happen off screen.)
Mai gritted her teeth and narrowed her eyes angrily at the sight. “Like heck she's is!”
She used an extra burst of energy to run full circle around the track and attacked hilary with a full force kick that sent her flying. Kai watched in amazement when he saw hilary land in the school pool. He turned to Mai who was panting hard as she glared at the girl who had landed in the school pool. After catching her final breath she composed herself.
“Just so you know I did that because I hate hilary and it had nothing to do with how jealous I am. So don't you forget or do forget it.” She said unsurely. She tried to sneak away and then turned around and pointed a finger at him, “and I did beat your record!” she declared and then ran back into the school. Kai just stood there, clueless of what just happened. “You'd think after being with her for years I would be use to her abrasiveness and her spontaneous moments.” He told himself.
Sai soon came over with her hand above her eyes as she gazes at the school. “Is my vision blurred or did my sister just pulled a Bey-saga move and kicked hilary sky high and into the school pool?” She asked already knowing the answer.
“Do you really want me to answer that for you?”
“Not really, but I hope she doesn't over do it and calms down soon.”
“This is Mai we're talking about. Give her three packs of sour cherry straws, four cans of sprite soda, a candy bar, a coke and then she'll be calm for a couple of hours.” He told her, but grimaced at the thought of her eating all of that.
“True, but you remember the last time that happened in one go. She grabbed your wallet and the keys to her friend's car and drove off to the mall and didn't come back until closing time with a bunch of anime stuff to add to her ever growing collection and then the next morning she had no clue what happened and went rampaging around tyson's dojo. Wow that was scary.” Sai told him before walking away to join her sister but stopped when kai called her name. “Yeah?”
“Tell Mai to meet me at the park for some serious Beyblade training. She's going to need it if we're going to work together in the tournament in Bey-saga.” He informed her.
Sai nodded and continued on her way to find her sister. In the corner of her mind she did snicker at the thought of hilary probably drowning in the pool even though she's a good swimmer. She's just doing it for the attention but then she couldn't help but wonder why hilary would want kai's attention when she figured that she liked tyson. She's always harping at him about rules, being late for school, doing his homework, eating right, and Beyblade training. Sai then shook her head. She felt that it wasn't her place to think about stuff like that. She had to focus on Bey-saga. The nagging feeling about the game was still bothering her even though the game seemed normal enough. She decided to keep analyzing the game while playing.
Soon she found her sister already in changed clothes and ready to leave gym class. As Sai was getting changed she told her sister what kai told her.
“What?! Kai wants to train me again? Is that all he ever wants me to do?” Mai hung her head down. “I'm happy that I get to spend time with him and all, but do we have to have Beyblading involved? Can't we just go out for ice cream?” She whined.
Sai placed her uniform shirt over her head and fixed the skirt. “Maybe during training he wants to talk to you about something. It does seem that he trusts you more than he does the rest of us. I mean, he doesn't want to talk about or do anything really unless you're there. It's been that way since that tournament at school.”
Mai stared off into the distance, remembering what had occurred and didn't tell her sister.
“Right…”
(Shadow Clone number three: Commencing chapter 7 flashback)
She turned the corner and saw the two of them talking. She quickly backed up and hid, but keeping her head slightly past the wall so she could see and hear better. She was shocked to hear what she was hearing.
“We've been through this a thousand times, grandson. You're destined for great things, yet you choose to go to this school with these incompetents. I allowed you to continue beyblading at your own free will…but as my grandson I want you to do as you're told.”
“Whatever…”
Voltaire scowled at him. “I'm warning you grandson. Don't tempt me. That old fool Dickenson won't keep you safe for long. You will control Black Dranzer again.”
“I'm not your puppet anymore. Nothing you can say or do will make me come crawling to you! Dranzer is mine!” kai snapped.
Mai gasped silently, but quickly covered her mouth to keep silent.
“We'll see how well Dranzer will protect you, grandson. When the tournament comes, you will see that you'll need Black Dranzer's help, because you know you'll be too weak to do anything.” Voltaire turned away and walked down the hall. He stopped for a moment. “Oh. And tell the Maski twins that their grandfather is very much alive and tell them to do be careful…when it comes to Bey-saga.” And with that Voltaire took his leave. Kai could hear his evil chuckle in his head. When Voltaire was completely gone he turned to where mai was hiding.
“You can come out now, mai.”
Mai jumped when she was caught. She gulped and came from behind the wall.
“Wow. Don't I make a horrible ninja? So…”
“Drop it. What you heard was none of your business. You should've stayed out of it.”
Mai waved her hands. “Yeah, yeah. I know it's never any of my business and I should stay out of trouble for my own health, but…” she held up one finger. “When my friends are in trouble…when the going gets tough…I get tougher and deal with them. I don't leave anybody behind and I won't let anyone suffer alone because they know that I'll be there for them.” She walks up to kai and pats his shoulder with a warm hearted grin. “So for whatever reason you need a shoulder to cry on, need someone to talk to you about anything at all, you can come to me. I'm always happy to help, okay?”
Kai was stunned for a moment. Letting her words sink in, he realizes another reason why he still has feeling for mai. He had feeling for her ever since they were little. Kai nods anyway, showing her that he at least considers it.
“You do know that you're too noisy for your own good.” He comments.
Mai shrugs and walks back to the gym. “Yeah. But what are you going to do? It's just part of my character and not everyone has the gift.” She said with a bright smile.
(Shadow Clone number three: Flashback over now back to reality.)
`I don't know if I should believe that creep about our grandfather being alive. I could ask mom and dad but I rather not since we're all on not speaking terms at the moment. But I guess I should go for kai's sake if he's worried about us having a shot a at the Bey-saga tournament. Since kai and I sorta had a break through that day, I should be cooler with him instead of blowing up in his face and getting on his nerves with my complaints. I really should watch that. I mean he's working hard, so I'm going to work hard too.' She smiled at her new confidence. She's going to work hard with kai no complaints this time!
(Fast-forward to the park. Mai and Kai's Moment.)
“Wrong! Do it again!” Kai commanded as Mai readied her launcher again for the twentieth time. “Let it rip!” Kai shouted.
Mai pulled the rip cord hard to release her beyblade onto the ground and through the course that kai had set up for her to practice. She was happy that her beyblade made it through the set up without a mistake. She happily jumped up and down with excitement.
“Yes, I did it! I totally got it down!” She told him as well as herself.
Kai shook his head, “Nope, not yet. Keep launching.” He told her, giving her back her beyblade and setting up the course differently.
Mai slouched, “But I want to beybattled already. I'm learning how to beyblade but all we ever did for the past three hours is practice launch techniques, study other players, study beyblade parts, learn how to put a beyblade together and take it apart and do more practice launch techniques.” She complained, forgetting her promise not to complain.
Kai sighed, “In a beybattle launching is the…” Mai finished with him. “…most important part of beyblading.” She huffed and got ready to launch again, but some beyblading kids caught her attention when she heard them whispering about them.
“No way! Is that Kai Hiwatari teaching a girl how to beyblade?”
“Lucky! I want to learn from the world champion!”
“Do you think he'll teach us a few tips?”
“That girl he's teaching sure is cute though, isn't she?”
“Yeah, I want to meet her and teach her, ya know.”
Mai looked in their direction and giggled, making the beybladers blush in embarrassment. Kai grabbed Mai's head and turned it to face his direction, “Hey, focus on me, will ya.”
Mai nodded seriously and got ready to launch again. `So, I'm not allowed to beybattle, or look at boys, or complain.' She thought to herself as she launched her beyblade to the new set up that kai laid out for her.

Sai hung her head and sighed. She received an e-mail from her mom and dad. Apparently they aren't coming to visit her or mai anytime soon. Work is just too important to them to spend time with their only two kids. They did send money to support them, but still where's the love? Both parents seemed as though they want nothing to do with them. Her father has stopped paying attention to her since Mai was born a while after her, but she doesn't hate mai for that. Her mother wants sai to be more like her. Perfect and smart in every way so she could take over the Computer Company that was their grandfather's and uncles. Sai looked at the orange yellow sky. `It must be past five already. I really stayed out late. I wonder how sis is doing with her training. Maybe I should start training myself if ray and I want to stand a chance.'
Speaking of the beyblader himself, ray was actually running towards her.
“Sai, I was looking for you.” He stopped in front of her and smiled while panting slightly.
Hope would've risen in her heart if she wasn't so depressed about her parents. Ray seemed to sense that and looked at her sincerely. “Are you okay? Is there something you want to talk about?” He asked her, not used to seeing sai so depressed.
Sai just kept her head hung low so that her bangs could hide her eyes but she gave a small smile for him, “Everything is fine. Thanks for asking.”
Ray frowned. He could tell that something was nagging at her and he wanted to help so he took her hand and tugged her in the opposite direction of where she was going. Sai lifted her head in question. “W-what are you doing? Where are we going?”
Ray smiled at her, “It's a good thing I found you. I want to take you somewhere to feel better. We're going to get ice cream and then we're going to talk.” Ray told her.
Sai blushed at the idea of having ice cream with him, “It's okay, really. I'm fine you don't have to do that.”
Ray shook his head and lightly pulled her to an ice cream cart. “Don't worry about it. Ice cream is on me.” He turned to the man, “I'll have chocolate cone please.”
The man nodded and handed one to him and then turned to Sai expectantly waiting to hear what she would like to have. Sai softly and shyly said chocolate. He nodded again and handed her one. Ray paid for the ice cream and lead Sai to the harbor near the beach so they could talk in private. Both of them sat on the edge with their feet hanging above the ocean water and finished off their ice cream cone before talking.
“So, what's got you so down? I'm not used to seeing you so depressed before.”
Sai looked out at the ocean not really sure how to tell ray about her problem so she just talked, “Well…not too long ago my mom and dad called me and mai. It's kind of rare to hear from them since we all live so far apart. My mom is in America probably and my dad is in France I think. You see, my mom and dad are very high social people. They work with computers and such so they never have time for me and mai and the both of them split up because they couldn't see eye to eye. My dad never wanted to talk to me…he always favored mai. Whenever I try to talk to him he would shrug me off or ignore me. I don't even know why he despises me.”
Ray placed a comforted hand on her shoulder to ease her. Sai clutched her hands together and continued. “My mom wants me to be like her so I can take over the company in her place. She wants me to be perfect in everything. Get hundreds on tests, try out for everything and surpass everyone, have a perfect school record so that I don't turn out rotten. She would always order me to do something and if I didn't do it I would get in trouble with her. But then one time I heard her talking to some lady at work…”
(Shadow Clone number two: As this flashback commences Sai is also still explaining what's going on and her point of view to ray.)
Flashback to when Sai and Mai were in their last year in elementary school.
“Thank goodness, sai passed with flying colors. To be honest she's a little dull. She has no individuality - such a dull child. Nothing like her sister.” Her mother told the lady. “Mai is average in everything and the most playful of the class, so I've heard, but Sai…nothing stands out about her even at home all she can do is study.”
Sai stood next to her mother and then turned to her, “Why did you just say all of those things? Am I really that dull? I was just doing what you told me to do. I thought I was working so hard for you, mom.” Sai told her.
Sai's mother made a disgusted face, “You make it sound like it's my fault. When you say it like that you make it sound like I did something wrong. Maybe there was something wrong with the way I raised you…we'll have to fix that.”
(Shadow Clone number two: End of Flashback)
Sai had tears falling down her face as ray pulled her into a comforting hug and stroke her hair softly. It really hurt him to see her like this, it wasn't right for her to cry, but he didn't know what to do. He wasn't very good at comforting girls so he said what he could to help her, “I'm glad you're the way you are, sai. You're fine the way you are, really. You don't have to try so hard anymore. What's the point if they don't care for your well being or how well you do? Why do it if they're not going to be happy about it? You've worked very hard.” Sai slowly lifted her head at his words as he continued. “You've worked and worked. You've given it everything you had and now the Sai I know is here with us…that makes me really happy.” He told her as he released her from the hug and wiped her tears away. Sai blushed heavy at the situation. She had just been crying her eyes out like a big baby, but since ray was with her she didn't care anymore.
“Thanks, ray. I really needed to hear someone say that to me.” She sniffed.
“Anytime.” Ray smiled at her and then watched the ocean view. Sai also smiled and watched the view too. Then remember something. “I wonder if Mai is okay.”
“Where is she?”
“She's training at the park with kai, but I'm a little worried about her being alone with him unsupervised without police around incase she goes on a rampage.”
Ray laughed, “I think you don't have to worry about anything. Kai maybe tough but he's not heartless and I think mai can behave herself.”
“I don't know…I'm getting a nagging feeling she might lose it.”

A snotty couple appeared into the park, glaring at Kai and Mai. The girl flipped her hair as she watched Kai adjusted Mai's elbows to change her launch position.
“Babe, do you think I'm prettier than her?” She asked the boy next to her who nodded.
“Much prettier. If you like I can teach you how to Beyblade.” He told her.
She cuddled up to him, “Do you think I'll be better than her?” She said loud enough to catch mai's attention for a second. “Way better.”
`What's with them?' Mai thought to herself and focused on what kai was saying.
“I think that's enough now. Let's take a break for a while, okay?” He said as he collected her beyblade. Mai nodded and followed him. The girl walked past her and deliberately banged shoulders with mai ad kept walking. Mai gripped her shoulder and shot her an accusing glare. “Hey, watch where you're walking.”
“Watch where you're going,” The girl mocked. “If you had seen me coming why didn't you move out the way?
Mai placed her hands on her hips, “Maybe I thought you had some courtesy to move out the way. But that's I get when I expect some decency from spoiled rich kids.”
“You better not be making fun of my girl.” The boy warned as he towered over her. “But you're right about us spoiled rich kids. We take what we want and I'm taking your training spot. So you better move.”
Mai stomped on his foot. “Why don't you move it? This is our spot.”
Kai came back and pulled her away some. “What are you doing? Apologize to them.”
Mai snatched her arm back, “What do you mean apologize? They started it and stole your spot! They should apologize.”
Kai glared at her, “Did you come here to learn how to beyblade or to fight? He didn't steal our spot. It's a free park and in the sport of beyblading, nobody owns anything only your beyblade equipment.” He told her and grabbed her arm again to pull her away.
Mai snatched her arm again and walked away from him backwards. “It's all about Beyblading with you. It's all that ever comes out of your mouth. Could you ever think about someone else's feelings, like my feelings? It's like you take it all for granted. You know what? Forget it! I'm done with Beyblading; I'll win the tournament alone!” And then she stormed off leaving him alone. She even left the beyblade he gave her with him. Kai looked at it and gave an irritated sigh while going after her.

`What was he thinking making me apologize? I thought kai would never be the one to tell me to apologize to someone unless he knows I should and I know when I should. He completely…uh!' She kicked an empty soda can. `He didn't even defend me, not that I need him to defend me or anything I just thought it would be nice if he did. I try to understand him and then he acts all out of character to throw me off. Maybe I'm being unfair?' She stopped completely. “Yeah, I'm being unfair. I should apologize to kai.”
“Hi! Got a sec?” A handsome teenage boy called with his friend.
“You're alone? Did you take up the sport of beyblading? Nice launcher.” He said as Mai gave him a suspicious look. The boy waved his hand. “Relax we're harmless. We're part of the BBA training facility and they're having a session taught by a profession and it's free. You'll be a pro in no time.”
“Yeah, and you'll actually beybattle like a champion, no problem.” The other persuaded.
“Really?” She asked, liking the idea that she could surprise kai.
“Yeah, you should join! Just try one lesson, please?”
A hand landed on Mai's shoulder and she felt herself being pulled into someone's chest.
“Sorry, she doesn't need a lesson. I'm teaching her so beat it.” Kai told them and they complied like idiots. Kai turned to mai angrily and she looked ashamed of herself.
“T-they said I could learn how to beybattle in no time.” Mai started off.
Kai crossed his arms. “That doesn't mean you really learn. You don't get my feelings either. It takes time to learn things just like you learn people.”
Mai nodded. “So how do I learn?” Kai grabbed her hand and pulled her back to where the snotty rich kids were standing. “If you want to be a true beybladers you gotta know a few things. First off…real beybladers would ignore losers like them!” He exclaimed as pointed to them. The snotty kids stood up in shock and kai continued. “Losers like them who steal other blader's equipment …mock the sport of beyblading…lie and cheat to start fights are total fakes!” Mai looked at kai in amazement. Kai turned to her and whispered to her, “Beyblading is a sport about fun and a battle. It takes more than just skills to win. It's about having fun and learn new things. A real beyblader honors the Beyblading rules. A real beyblader has spirit.”
Mai blushed to her embarrassment. `So a real beyblader has to have skills and spirit. I never knew that. So that's what he's been trying to teach me.'
“Thanks, kai and I'm sorry. I had no idea.” She told him sincerely.
Kai smirked at her, “Yeah, yeah. Besides the Mai Maski I know is too cool to mess with losers like them. And I'm going to be completely honest with you. I want you to me my partner. Someone I can practice with, train with and battle with anywhere.” He smiled a real actual smile. “I know you're sick of Launch practice. But just trust me, okay?”
Mai nearly fainted over. `Wow! He really opened up to me! He wants me to be his partner!' “Wow! Kai, you should've told me that stuff before. I would've left them alone, ya know.”
Kai held her hand as they walked home and mai didn't seem to mind, nor did she complain. “Yeah right, you would've left them alone. But do you get what I've been trying to teach you today?”
Mai nodded, “Yeah. I think I understand you and beyblading a little better now. So I won't quite; I want to be your partner.”
Kai smirked. “Hm. So from now on when I say trust me when I say things will you believe me without complaining?”
“Yeah!”
