Okay, this story has a twist. I wrote it and don't even know why I put this twist in.

“Glad to see you awake,” a voice hissed.
Kai woke up and saw Rei above him.
“What happened?”
Kai then gasped at the pain in his wing.
“I was going to kill you,” Rei said quietly, “But I didn't.”
Kai felt Rei firmly bind a cloth around his feathered wing.
“To stop the bleeding,” he explained.
Kai nodded and sat up.
“Why didn't you kill me?”
“I can't explain.”
Kai sighed, this was confusing.
“I'm sorry,” Rei said sitting next to Kai.
Then a pounding came at Rei's door.
“Rei!” yelled a voice, “Have you killed him yet?”
“Hide!” Rei hissed to Kai.
Kai didn't get a chance to hide because the door was thrown open and a person walked in.
“Leave him alone,” Rei said quietly, “He's the one who's going to save us all.”
The guy snarled.
“Lee,” Rei said quietly, “Please do it for me.”
Lee shook his head and smiled.
“Fine, but he better not attack the village. If he does, its your head.”
Rei nodded.
“I understand.”
Lee nodded and walked out of Rei's hut.
“So,” Rei said to Kai,” Tell me about yourself.”
Kai nodded. After all, what could it hurt?

“Does your wing hurt?”
Kai was shocked, why did Rei care?
“Well?” Rei asked quietly, “does it?”
Kai nodded and Rei sighed.
“I know what'll help.”
Slowly, Rei reached towards Kai's wing and started to rub it.
“What are you doing?” Kai asked in confusion.
“Trying to make you feel better.”
Rei kept stroking Kai's wing, rubbing the gray feathers. He moved his fingers under the feathers and smiled. He was having fun.
“Rei,” Kai said, “You don't have to do this.”
“Just shut up and tell me how you died.”
Kai nodded.
“Well,” he said, “it was night. Um… well, I had gotten angry. A person named Boris had taken my phoenix friend, Dranzer, and hid her. I rushed into a building and didn't know that it was booby-trapped. I came in and he blew the place up and I died. Dranzer found me after I was cast to earth after that. She taught me how to fly and everything.”
Rei was silent, Kai must have been in pain when he died.
“Did it hurt?”
“Yes,” Kai said, “of course it did.”
Kai studied Rei's face and noticed his ears looked like once you would find on a cat. His teeth were sharp and pointy. Kai couldn't help but wonder if he had a tail.
Rei noticed Kai staring at him and smiled.
“Do I pass inspection?” he asked.
Kai shrugged and Rei let go of his wing.
“I've got to go,” Kai said standing up. When he stood up however, the pain in his wing flared up again. He sunk to his knees.
“Kai?” Rei asked in concern, “Are you okay?”
He bent down next to Kai and helped him back to the bed.
“I'll be fine,” Kai hissed in pain.
Rei noticed that Kai's wing had started bleeding again.
`I need to change your bandage,” Rei said quietly, I'll be back in a second.
Kai nodded and Rei walked away.

Rei had came back with some cloth and a bucket of water.
Gently, he untied the cloth around Kai's wing.
Great, the thought looking at the blood, This is going to be hard.
Soaking a strip of cloth, Rei started stroking Kai's wing.
Kai tensed up and stifled a soft cry of pain.
“Relax,” Rei said quietly.
`I'm trying,” Kai hissed in agony.
Rei finished cleaning off Kai's wing and started binding it again.
“You're going to have to stay in bed for a while,” Rei said quietly.
“Rei,” Kai said, “If I don't leave, I'm going to bring some people that you don't want here.”

What did Kai mean? Rei wondered.
He didn't wonder long because Lee yelled, “We're underattack!”
