Chapter 8: A Broken Heart and a Heart in Love

Tomoyo was waiting outside for them with Li's butler , Wei.

" I wonder what's happening inside ." Tomoyo told Wei.

Arrows were raining down on the group as they ran or flew in some cases through the destroyed city.

Sakura's cape flapped as she ran . Tomoyo had made a special costume for her . It consisted of a purple hat and cape with

white skirt that was tied to a yellow shirt with purple ribbons and a golden belt which held her sword and wand .

They had allowed Meiling to come with them because they knew they would never hear the end of it if they came

back .

" Should we split up?" Syaoran yelled over the noise as they all jumped over a wall and put their backs to it as

the explosions died down .

" Good idea . It will take longer for him to get all of us . Some of us just might make it .And we could information " Eriol said,

" We'll make three teams , alright ?"

Everyone nodded . " Okay then , I'll decide the teams . Sakura ,Yugi and Yami since you three get along the best

with each other you'll be team number 1 . Kero you too . You'll have to protect Sakura ." Eriol said as the four got together .

" Syaoran , Meiling and Spinel you are team two . Lastly Ruby , Yue , and me . "

Yue turned to Sakura ." May I assist Master Eriol , Mistress?"

" You may." Sakura replied .

" Okay . Team 2 you go to the south side while team 1 goes to the edge of the city to the forest . Team 3 will go

to the north." Spinel said as he was floating above the group and pointing directions.

" Then it's settled . Let's go ." Eriol said as the three groups split up and ran into different directions.

It was getting late when team 1 were reaching the forest .

"We better rest here ." Keroberos said as they walked by the gates leading out of the city which was surrounded by a huge wall. Keroberos lit a fire and settled down .He let out a big yawn and was out like a light .

Sakura sat down on the other side of the fire and leaned against the wall .Yugi also sat down by Sakura and Yami

sat on the other side of Sakura .

" Why do you think Pegusas is after you ?" Sakura asked Yugi .

" Couldn't we talk about this in the morning . I'm sleepy ." And with that Yugi put his head on Sakura's lap and fell asleep.

A few minutes later Yami was asleep too.

Team 2 was reaching the south side of the city . They were running or flying, in Spinel's case from armed lizards .

They had been chasing them ever since the group split .

Spinel turned around and blasted some of them . Only a few remained now so the rest of them retreated .

Syaoran looked at the sunset . " It looks like we were chased for about an hour ."

" No kidding , my feet are killing me ." Meiling whined as she sat down on a stone . Syaoran put his sword down and

sat down on the floor leaning against a wall that used to be a shop .Spinel landed by them .

" It's almost night time . You should get some sleep ." he stated .

" Fine with me ." Meiling said as she curled up by the rock and put the cape Tomoyo had added to her chinese robs

around her .

Team 3 didn't have any trouble getting to the north side of the city . A few attacks were sent on them out of nowhere

, but they easily dodged or sent their own attack on it .It was nightfall now .

" I bet the others are already resting ." Eriol turned to the two moon gaurdians ." I think we should do the same."

With that Eriol put a sheild aroung them as he sat down against a wall and went to sleep .

Yami awoke . It was still night and the fire was burning bright .He turned to see Sakura was still awake .

" Why are you still up?" Yami asked her softly to not wake Yugi up.Sakura looked at him then back at the fire .

" I was just thinking about somethings." Sakura answered .

" Like what?" Yami asked again .

" Nothing you should know ." She answered back .

" I can see it's making you sad ." Yami said reading the expression on her face ." Please tell me."

" It's nothing you should worry about ." Sakura said .

" I won't stop bothering you about it until you tell me ." Sakura looked up to see he was serious about her telling him .

" Fine ." Sakura sighed in defeat , " It's something about my past love ." she said looking back at the fire as she spoke .

" Go on " Yami said .

"At first I had a huge crush on Yukito . I thought I was in love with him , that he was the one for me."

" Did you ever tell him ." Yami asked .

" I did ." Sakura sighed deeply ," I ended up with a broken heart . he told me I only cared for him as a brother and nothing

more. Syaoran was there to comfort me . I didn't know at the time , but Syaoran was in love with me . He finally

confessed to me after the battle with Eriol . I was shocked at the time . After a while I found out I loved him too .

I tried to tell him after he left for four months . I finally told him after I captured the VOID , and he told me he loved me too."

Now Sakura was getting tears in her eyes . Yami looked at her . A worried expression on his face .

" What happened . You both loved each other , but you don't look like lovers now. " Yami said carefully after he saw

Sakura started to cry a little .

" After two years he told me he didn't love me anymore and really broke my heart on it because I thought he was the one for me and only to find out he wasn't . He said he loved Meiling . Then we just stayed bestfriends . Now it just

seems hopeless to find the one for me , but I don't let it get to me. I would never let it get to me , even though it is hopeless . But lately I'm starting to fall for someone , but I just don't know if I have found the one or not . " She finished as she wiped her tears as new ones fell." What if it's not the one for me . Should I risk a broken heart again ?"

Yami put a hand around her and pulled her closer , trying to comfort her . He repeated the last sentance she said and

wondered who could it be .He looked down at her , but she was asleep with her head on his shoulder . he wiped away

her remaining tears and put his head on hers and also fell asleep again .What they didn't know was that Yugi had awoken

and heard some of the conversation too.

" A had a good sleep ." Keroberos said as he yawned and stretched his paws . The fire was burned out and only smoke

was in the place where the fire once was .

Kero turned around to find Sakura leaning her head on Yami's shoulder and Yami had his hand around her and his head on hers. Yugi had his head on Sakura's lap and she had her hand on his shoulder .

.' They look so cute together . Where's Tomoyo when you need her .'Keroberos laughed lightly until he saw Yami start to

wake up .

Yami opened his eyes and keroberos was the first thing he saw. He was a little confused why Keroberos was giving him a weird look . Yami then felt something warm beside him . He turned to see Sakura leaning on him with her head on his shoulder while he had his arm around her .He blushed a deep red and took his arm away .

That's when Yugi and Sakura started to wake up . Yugi was the first to open his eyes and stood up trying to figure out were

he is . It finally hit him what happened the day before and he looked over to Sakura . She had finally awoken and was

stretching .

" And think we should go back into the ruins . We aren't cowards , so we should face the obstacle he put up and not hide away ." Keroberos said .

A few minutes later they were walking through the gates and into the ruins . Sakura was walking with Yami while Yugi

was walking with Kero, who had turned to his plush toy form .

Once Yugi and Kero were out of hearing range of Sakura and Yami , Yugi turned to Kero .

" Could I talk to you about something .?" Yugi asked .

"Sure ." Kero answered .

" Well it's about Sakura ." Yugi said starting to blush ," Sakura's past in love. I found out about it last night when Sakura

and Yami were talking by the fire . "

" What do you have to say about it ?" Kero asked looking at the blushing Yugi .

" Well I hope she finds the one for her . It's sad that she had her heart broken twice ." Yugi said looking at the floor .

" You're falling for her aren't you ?" Kero asked as he flew infront of Yugi making him stop walking and looked at his face .

" I guess I would be lying if I said no." Yugi said his face turning glowing red ." Please don't tell her ."

" Don't worry I won't . I think she should have someone like you." Kero said as he flew out of Yugi's face .Yugi blushed

more at the comment .

" Well , that's about it at what i wanted to say ." Yugi said .

" I can't wait how this turns out ." Kero said as he turned to Yugi .

" Hey guys hurry up!" They looked at Sakura and Yami looking at them .

" Coming !" Both Kero and Yugi yelled back .
