Chapter 8

 

Four months…

Four months to think of a solution to solve this problem…

He had to think of something! Clow Reed might not appreciate reincarnation! And… and…. Well, it just wasn't normal to resurrect!

Now reincarnation within the laws of Fate was acceptable, but this?

Empress Ruby Moon really *was* insane…

 

He woke up the next morning to find another card added to his collection. Windy…. He had never seen her before, but she was obviously a moon-based card. The next morning, Watery showed up.

Interesting…

Windy and Watery were two of the four elementals, the highest tier of cards, the most powerful, under Light and Dark - technically.

Time and Return were almost wild cards within a normal deck… because they were more powerful than the elements. They dealt with time itself.

Perhaps… no. That would be an invasion of privacy. He wouldn't…

 

“Yue really loved Clow, didn't he?”

Yes… but even an immortal cannot grieve for eternity…

“I'm finding that a bit hard to believe, Windy.”

The wind elemental did not bother to elaborate further. Dark would know best though, if you can find her.

“Dark?”

Dark is the leader of Yue's cards….

“I see…”

You are confused. It is quite understandable…

“The messenger knows everything, doesn't she?”

Ah, you have heard of me then. Windy smiled. In an eternity, I suppose a few months mean little, and yet, these months that come will change the fate of the four kingdoms, so be on your guard, Syaoran.

“I suppose you know everything about me as well…”

Not quite, but you know less of your own feelings than you would care to admit.

“What?”

However, Windy did not clarify after that.

Syaoran put it out of his mind and went back to work… well, not work, per se, but practice… Fight was critiquing his skills.

You really are quite skilled with the sword… but how did you learn to fight with your flute?

“Anything can be a weapon, take advantage of it, so I developed my own style.” He smiled. After all, his musical instrument he could take anywhere, but not his other weapons. Most people didn't see the flute as a weapon, after all…

That makes sense…

 

Watery was quiet. Too quiet... the other weather cards studied her anxiously, wondering what was wrong.

Watery, what's wrong? Freeze asked kindly.

I'm not sure… I just feel very uneasy…

Don't worry. I'd know if something was happening. Windy reassured hr.

Watery sighed. I know…

But they were still uneasy…

 

Will the others come?

I'm not sure if they will…Windy paused. I know that most of the cards care for Yue-sama's well being, but… Illusion and Mirror and perhaps Shadow as well, they…

Ah, two still regret… that's a pity.

No. They seem to be quite… well, they like Ruby Moon, and that's just not right!

I know, I know, the Clow set belongs to Cerberus and Yue, and Clow's second set will belong to Ruby Moon and Spinel Sun…

We'll just have to wait…

Do you truly believe Syaoran-sama can do this? Libra whispered.

Watery frowned. I do not know.

We can only hope, Windy smiled.

 

Syaoran frowned. The cards were gathering… did it mean that he might actually possess the set of fifty-two? That was a startling thought.

Whoever could capture the cards would become Clow's heir and rule as the next Emperor. But he didn't want to be a ruler; he just wanted… what did he want?

He honestly wasn't sure. Did he want freedom, perhaps? But he had that, or close enough…. And living a life of luxury was not what he envisioned. He kept his skills sharp because he liked to, and because they were valuable, but…

He did not relish being an incompetent man…

 

The future was still undecided. That was quite troublesome. But for some incomprehensible reason, he did care for Yue, perhaps… why?

The man had never shown him affection, especially…

Was it just their energy attracting one another?

Impossible…

 

“He slept with him?”

Shadow nodded mutely. Ruby Moon laughed. “I knew it! Without Touya, Yue can't possibly resist him…”

Oh?

“Why yes. Besides, last life, Syaoran had a crush on Yukito…”

But Yue-sama is not his false form…

“It matters not. The moon attraction between them is strong. It will be enough. And soon, it shall become an addiction…”

Mirror smiled. With Yue-sama out of the way, she could win Touya's heart. Mistress Ruby-sama had promised to share after all.

Everything would work out…

Shadow faded away, feeling quite guilty. But unless there was a new Card Captor, he must obey the guardians…

Wait…

He cast his senses out. Yue's new pet, that child had moon-type magic, and already several of the cards had allied themselves with him.

What did he have to lose? If this Syaoran were not the true Card Master, he would be freed along with his siblings later.

It would keep him safe from Ruby Moon-sama's further summons in any case.

With that, Shadow vanished, and Syaoran looked up to see another card vanish into his pocket. It seemed things were starting to speed up….
