Now on with the story

Prologue: Battle of Shadows

Hikari stood on the edge of the border of her clan, Iori next to her; both held out their swords ready for any surprise attacks from any of the neighbouring clans, although they were venturing into neutral land there were some clans that did not honour it. The sky was over cast and a chill wind picked its way through the alleyways and crumbling stone houses. Hikari looked around her, her chocolate brown hair blowing slightly in the wind, chestnut eyes darting here and there, checking out all possibilities. Finally signalling to Iori that she thought it was all right Hikari and Iori ventured out into the neutral land to visit their friend Sasami, a healer for all clans. These were dark times in the land of Ausrata, after the civil war all ties to other lands were cut and the land they lived in was split into four clans, the Cobras, The Dragons, the Wolves and the Shadows. There were constant evil daemons from the underworld coming to their land through the portal that had been opened at the end of the war and it was never closed, every person that lived had to fight and the law of every clan was those that are strong live, the weak ones die. Although many followed this law there were a few in each clan that did not and that caused their fall many times. Iori and Hikari talked openly about nothing in particular, the weather was a popular topic, it had been fluctuating lately from freezing degrees to mildly hot, always depending on the moons orbit. Iori was Hikari's guard, although they were friends it was his job to make sure that she stayed safe, when it was more often or not that Hikari actually saved his life. Taichi had appointed the job to him, as he was one of the best young fighters in their clan.

A shadow passed over the dull sun and made Hikari stop in her tracks, neither of them had been watching where they were going and they had unintentionally had entered Dragon territory. Iori moved closer to Hikari once her noticed.

"Do you think they noticed us?" he asked in a whisper, his eyes wildly searching the surrounding houses and streets. Almost every place in Ausrata looked the same and if you didn't know where you were going you were going to get into a lot of trouble.

Takeru stormed out of his house that he shared with his brother, it was one of the better looked after houses that were inside his clan, seeing as he and his brother were high ranking Dragons and were respected and feared in their clan for their amazing talent when fighting and intellect. His brother Yamato had just ordered him and his friend Shin Tai on a mission as undercover agents into the neutral zone to find out any information pertaining any of the other clans. Takeru shook his head, his brother was such an idiot sometimes, almost everyone knew who he was, as well as Shin. `Oh well, at least I wont have to do much, just sit there and listen mostly, its more like a holiday' not really believing his thoughts Takeru continued on his journey to find Shin and relieve him of guard duty.

A commotion up ahead made Takeru speed up, some action would be a nice little distraction from his anger towards his brother. Stopping to survey what was going on Takeru was amazed to find a girl and boy standing there shouting at Shin about something or another. Smiling to himself Takeru walked, or rather strutted out to see what was going on, he knew that they weren't Dragons, a dragon would not be yelling at Shin as he was another respected member of the clan.

"What's going on Shin? Takeru asked shoving his sandy blonde hair out of his blue eyes while he looked over the two intruders.

"They say that they didn't realise they came into our lands" Shin said unbelievingly, the girl glared and placed her thumbs into her pockets, her long black leather jacket pushed behind her showing of her tight clothing underneath. It took a while before Takeru could tear his eyes away from the beauty of the girl to look at the scowling youth by her side. Takeru laughed and shook his head.

"They wont do any harm," he said waving his hands of the matter, just escort them off out lands." Takeru waited for the outburst that they could do harm but it never came. Shin had also expected the yelling of either on eof them but instead found both intruders looking at something else. Takeru thinking this to be a trick didn't look and neither did Shin. Too many times an enemy would look at something interestedly to get you distracted `maybe ill have that fight after all.'

Hikari was nervous, two Dragons stood before her, both males and heavily muscled, swords at their hips and she could make out an assortment of other weapons hidden beneath their clothing. Both her and Iori were waiting for them to attack but they just seemed to be taking this as a big joke and for that she was glad, but something behind the two Dragons was confusing her. That was when she realised what it was. Pulling Iori with her Hikari threw them to the ground and covered Iori with her body, just as a loud explosion sounded close by them. Pulling out her automatic guns Her lifted her head to find the two Dragons that had been conversing with her opening fire on whoever had attacked them. Hikari stood up and surveyed the damage also looking behind them to see if there were any more attackers. There, out of the corner of her eye she saw a shadow moved and opened fire on it, they were being attacked in Dragon territory but some unknown force.

"Shadows" she heard one of the curse while she growled, damn shadows. Making sure that Iori was all right she pulled off his communicator and dialled her brothers number. His face came onto the screen a little flustered and then upon hearing the shooting his eyes opened in fright.

"Where are you Kari?" Ha asked worriedly already dialling his squad of emergency fighters to be ready,

"Dragon territory, were under attack, it's the Shadows" Before Hikari could say anything more a stray bullet zoomed past her and shot the communicator out of her hand. Cursing the either badly aimed shot or well aimed shot her fired back while yelling at Iori to stay down, she couldn't forgive herself if he got injured or killed.

Iori growled and pulled out his gun, he hated it when Hikari told him to stay down, he wasn't a child and it made him seem weak when Hikari fought and he didn't. Also it hurt his pride. He would not just sit there cowering, he would fight back. Pulling out his semi automatic he fired at the enemy and revelled in the cries of agony that were heard rippling throughout the battle.

Hikari heard a whistling go passed her and then a low thud before a cry of pain startled her. Turning her head slightly she was Iori on his back withering in pain. A bullet wound in his shoulder. Something over took her then some kind of rage, no one and I mean no one hurt her friends and got away with it. Her mind switched to war mode then and pulling out her sword she charged, dodging bullets she fell upon her enemy like the wind of justice, slicing through the skin of her enemy, getting their blood splattered on her face and clothes, bullets and explosions surrounded her but she took no notice of this, she continued to slaughter her enemy, her brain registered the reinforcements of her brothers squad and the massive amounts of Dragons that swarmed the streets, but her mind was still plugged into her enemy's frequency and she would not stop until they were all dead.

Takeru and Shin watched in amazement as the girl they had been talking too went into a rage and just jumped into the fighting to go up close and personal with her fighting. That's when the agonised cry of the youth the girl had been with reached their ears. They realised then what had spurred on the anger that the girl had which shone through her eyes. They both continued to fire bullets at the Shadows until the welcomed sound of reinforcements came to their ears. They started in shock when Cobra's joined their forces and fought against the shadows, a couple of the Cobra' knelt beside Iori to see to his wound and ask to where Hikari was. That was when all that was present realised that all gunfire had ceased and a voice resounded off of the wall of the stone houses that littered the streets.

"Tell Terada what I have said and if I ever catch a Shadow on Cobra land I will kill them within sight. All peace that we had between our clans is void. You have broken that by endangering the life of Cobra Archaic Sai Hikari and her guard Cobra Iori, leave you filthy, coward of a shadow" The scathing and hate in that voice sent shivers down everyone's spine, a scuttling could be heard and then it was quiet. Most people looked a little confused, namely the Dragons

"What's a Archaic Sai?" Shin asked Takeru in a whisper, Takeru just shrugged.

"I suppose she's one or something," He pointed to Hikari that was making her way down to where Iori lay. She nodded her head in thanks to Takeru and Shin before she led the Cobra's back towards their clan.

"What the hell just happened?" Shin asked bewildered. Takeru watched until Hikari was out of sight before looking down at his friend

"I don't know, but I bet Yamato or Dragon knows." Shin nodded his head and after gathering his weapons the both of them headed back towards Takeru's residence to get some answers.

This is my first ever Digimon fic woohoo, ok well just to let you know the leader of the clan is called whatever the clans name is eg, Shadow is the leader of the Shadow clan. Also it would be helpful to know some of their last names if you could help. Ok well thanks for reading :D

Archaic means ancient, old

Sai is a weapon, you know those fork things, that Raphael off of the teenage mutant ninja turtles uses.

Hahaha I just thought this was funny, old fork. Ok well that's not what it means, it will all be explained later on
