[Chibi characters of SSJ, Momo, and Dark appear in the foreground as scenes from the last
episode play in the background. Though, you can't see 'cause this is text. Haha!]

SSJ: Last time on GINGA GIRI GIRI! Huge ass fight scene between Dark and I.

Momo: Dark used technique after technique, but SSJ won!

Dark: And with that, just about everything about me was explained.

All: Okay, on with the show!

---- Chapter 65: Love and Hate ----

The Red Mountains weren't so threatening at night. The moon hung overhead, and the dim
light made the mountain range seem tame and docile. A great deal of the mountains was
hidden in the darkness of the night, only outlined by the light from the stars. At night,
nothing seemed threatening, for everything was hidden. Everything except the three and the
campfire they all sat around within the edge of the Naydis Forest.

That was where the three were, right on the edge of the forest. Trees stood all around.
Full green leaves signaled that it was spring. SSJ figured that if it wasn't for the Gate,
he'd be in class learning something about algebra. He thought, 'Well, that has its good
sides. I wouldn't be traveling around the world then.'

Around the three were SSJ's bishoujo, all out and about for the first time in a while. Of
course, they all gathered around SSJ and gave Momo certain dirty looks. SSJ whispered at
Momo to ignore them, so she just looked away at the sky, ignoring all the noise they made
around SSJ.

So they sat around the campfire, from which smoke billowed into the sky. Even with all the
sound and distractions, SSJ and Dark were both aware enough to notice the plants shuffle a
distance away. SSJ raised his hand to calm his bishoujo, and then the two got to their
feet, prepared for what would come.

They heard something, "Yes, yes, we'll follow you even there, master!" It was a familiar
voice...

From the darkness in the trees, there came six rather familiar people. SSJ was surprised to
see one of them dressed in completely baggy robes, another with a metal right hand shining
in the light, two others carrying golden items, and the last two bald with very shiny
heads. It was Team Voldemort, finally returning after a long while. SSJ just sighed and
leaned back on a tree.

Voldemort suddenly stopped just before the two. The others stopped behind, noticing why he
stopped. They all turned white. "Oh bloody hell," swore Peter. "Not them!"

Voldemort did not move, despite Peter's troubling words. He just turned to SSJ and said,
"What happened to your friends, kid?"

"They went on ahead," casually replied SSJ. "I had business to take care of."

It was then that Voldemort noticed Dark, whose features were barely illuminated by the
fire. Voldemort and friends just leapt back in surprise. "Twins?!" yelled Bakura.

"Someone just as strong as the author?!" screamed Malik.

"Is this what's left of our luck?!" Ma asked.

Ze began to rhyme, "All I have to say is fu-"

"Calm down," interrupted SSJ. SSJ turned and saw Dark just sigh and turn his back to
Voldemort, an insult if there ever was one. Voldemort wasn't about to fight at that point.
SSJ then turned to the Dark Wizard, "Well, we haven't been this friendly since that time in
Komachi. Where are you going?"

Voldemort looked down and glared at SSJ. "Isn't it obvious? We're heading for Rantmon's
palace, as well."

SSJ was stunned by the answer. "Whoa, no way," he said. "I never thought you'd be fighting
for us-"

"It's not for you!" Peter interrupted. SSJ turned and gave Peter a narrow look.

Voldemort just put his hand in front of Peter. "Silence, Wormtail." Peter did so and sunk
away to stand with the Yu-Gi-Oh! villains. Voldemort turned to SSJ. "I'm not fighting for
you. Rantmon is my enemy as well. The world is mine, not Rantmon's, and I'll have to teach
him that."

With that, Voldemort turned back to his gang. "Come on," he commanded. He then stepped
around the group of threatening bishoujo, who all had weapons out and ready. SSJ could see
through Voldemort's seriousness, what since his robe was getting wet from sweat. As
Voldemort disappeared through the trees, SSJ figured he was terrified not of him, but of
Dark.

SSJ didn't blame him. Dark's aura, even when he was calm, was just depressing. SSJ just
came back to the center of his group of bishoujo, who all put away their weapons to
God-knows-where.

"Geez," said Akane. "He just never gives up, does he?"

The girls just continued their gossip on Voldemort, telling of how he was just acting cool,
or how he was quite a funny guy. The group just laughed, recalling all of SSJ's moments
with Voldemort- cutting off the guy's afro, beating him multiple times, making him turn
white with fear...

Voldemort heard it all, even from afar. He fumed, but knew he could do nothing. "My
opponent just had to be the author," complained Voldemort with a river of tears coming from
his eyes (a la Love Hina or Ranma ½). And the team continued on, leaving the others back in
the edge of the Naydis Forest.

SSJ sat there, by Momo within the gang of bishoujo. He stared straight at the fire,
thinking of many things. How did the others fare? What were they doing? How much stronger
was Rantmon? He had to wait to find out the answers to these many questions.

He thought of Rantmon. He barely defeated one mana clone on his own, and the other he
needed TM's help. But he was going to face the real thing. He would need all the help he
could get. He looked up and turned to each one of his bishoujo. He saw their shining faces,
glimmering with hope.

He began to speak, "You know, none of you have to follow me. Even though I was a fanboy and
wrote you all to all like me, I think that none of you have to follow me into Rantmon's
place. I'm not sure if I'll win even with your help, so it might be best that you all
return to your places and have a chance at living. You know, I won't blame any of you who
want to leave. I just need to know if following me into Hell is what your all really
want..."

All of his bishoujo looked straight at him. Momo turned and peered at him, suddenly
serious. Dark just stared at the fire from across them all.

SSJ then felt a smack to the back of the head. He saw Aoyama Motoko standing there. "Come
on, moron," she harshly spoke. "I'm about your newest one here, but I'll follow you. We
can't just leave now."

"Yes!" yelled Relena. Everyone turned to her. "I'll stay. I was the first, and I will be
the last to leave, if we ever have to part. You just need to remember, if you lose, there
won't be any safe haven. Everyone will be purged, remember?"

"She's right," said Ayanami Rei. "I must stay here. I may have been taken and then
forgotten, but I know there can be no future any place else."

"We feel the same!" everyone else screamed. SSJ looked at them all, smiling. He saw
Catherine, showing off her knives; Yuzuriha, clutching onto his arm with Inuki standing
nearby; Arashi, smiling from afar; Satsuki, tapping away on a laptop to investigate the
position of Rantmon's palace; Quistis and Selphie, giving him thumbs-up; Aisha and Suzuka,
both proudly standing behind him; Aeris and Yuffie, gladly handing over their materia;
Akane and Shampoo, holding up their fists in support, and Kasumi, making a delicious meal;
Misao and Kaoru, giving their determined grins; Jill, smiling upon remembering how he saved
her from death; Yuna, holding her staff up high; Rydia, giving a victory sign; Hermione,
smiling with her wand; Mimi, scratching her head in the midst of all the powerful people;
Raquel, patting him on the shoulder; Tenten, holding her kunai tight; Eri, smirking right
by him; and finally, Fuuko, excitedly sending a wind fly around.

SSJ replayed his adventure, recalling how he met them all, and how they all were with him
ever since. 'With all the pain and effort, I have made it this far,' thought SSJ. 'This is
how far I've come. I won't stop now. I wouldn't give it up, ever. These memories... They
are all important to me...'

SSJ just smiled. He looked around the area. Then, his eyes and Momo's met. They stared at
each other. "Don't worry," said SSJ. "We'll all be alright." He turned to his bishoujo.
"Right?!"

"Yeah!" they all screamed at once. Momo just chuckled at it.

"Yeah," repeated Momo. "We'll all get through this. Then everything will return to normal."
Everyone smiled.

Everyone then heard the flames crackling. There then came a sound of shuffling. The group
turned to Dark, who stood and made a small bed using leaves. "Hey Dark, you sure you don't
need a tent?" asked SSJ.

Dark turned and replied, "I'm used to this, anyway. We'll get to Mauzel tomorrow." He then
lay down upon the bed of leaves, calmly breathing.

A thought then struck SSJ. He asked, "Hey, how are we going to go there?" It was silent.
Dark didn't reply. He was out sleeping. SSJ just sighed. "Return, everyone." His bishoujo
smiled and disappeared in a flash of red light. He sighed and turned to Momo. "We should
turn in." Momo nodded.

In a flash of red light, a packed up tent appeared in his arms. He quickly set to pitching
it and both he and Momo climbed into the large area. The fire continued through the night,
and nothing disturbed their peace.

***

The sun rose high the next day, piercing through the green veil over the three. The fire
had burnt out, leaving nothing but ashes in the middle of a round of stones. All around,
shadows of the trees cut through the bright green grass, which grew tall and struggled to
reach the precious light.

Momo stirred; the brilliant light could not be ignored long. Her eyes opened slowly as she
absorbed the environment. She saw herself inside a tent with SSJ, the sun's light piercing
through the tent. She looked around, trying to remember how she got there. It then came
slowly; everything happened so quickly yesterday, after all. She remembered SSJ's fight
with Dark, Team Voldemort, and SSJ's chat with his bishoujo.

All around, everything seemed so peaceful and calm. There were very few hints of
destruction possibly looming over the horizon. She got to her feet and stepped out of the
tent. She took in the sights and sounds, feeling the cool breeze of the morning.

She turned and saw Dark, sitting upon a stone, wide awake, apparently. She said in
surprise, "Oh, Dark! How long have you been awake?"

Dark looked at her from the corner of his eyes. "An hour," he replied. "I was waiting for
him to awaken. It's already eight."

"'Already'?" muttered Momo to herself. Still, she took Dark's hint and stepped back into
the tent. She saw SSJ, sleeping peacefully without a worry in the world, so it seemed. His
sleeping bag was thrown one place, his pillow another, and he was sleeping on a rock. She
could only chuckle to herself. She stepped up to him and shook him. "Hey, we gotta go," she
whispered.

SSJ slowly awoke, his first sight being Momo. He sighed and said, "So, where're we going?"
He then looked this way and that, his eyes half opened with sleepiness. "Hey, we got out of
the mountains? Damn it, where'd that Dark-"

'He's not fully awake!' said Momo to herself.

Minutes later, SSJ finally recovered from his grogginess and faced Dark. SSJ's hair was
messy and his clothes wrinkled. Dark just slapped his forehead. As his hand slid down his
face, he heard SSJ ask, "Are we going to Mauzel now?"

Dark pulled his hand away and replied, "I think you better do your morning routine, first."
He then pointed into the forest, "There's a river that way."

SSJ nodded and stepped away. Momo sat behind and watched him go off. She then turned to
Dark, "How are we going to meet Mauzel? What do you mean by that?"

Dark turned to her with surprise. "He's met her before," Dark replied. "He never told you
about that?"

Momo shook her head. "He kept mostly to himself... As a matter of fact, the five of the
Outlaws kept secrets from Kensou and me. They never mentioned what happened after they
stepped through those holes in Komachi, and when some hints slipped out, they never
elaborated. We were just in their way, it seemed."

Dark nodded, looking up at the trees. "Sounds like it would be his character." He then
turned to her. "Mauzel exists in her own plane. It is relatively easy for me to reach
there."

Momo just stared at Dark, looking down upon his bandaged arm. "A way to reach... God?"

Dark just nodded. Momo said no more, neither did Dark. They just sat there, silent, until
SSJ finally returned.

Dark turned to him as SSJ began, "How are we getting to Mauzel, now?"

Dark just stood up. Momo did so as well. Momo stepped away to stand beside SSJ as Dark held
out his arm. He muttered some things under his breath. SSJ could hardly make it out before
Dark said aloud, "Open!"

A sudden storm tore through the trees. Leaves flew everywhere as powerful winds came from
all directions, all to one point in the middle of the three. SSJ and Momo were taken aback
when the wind tore open a hole in space. SSJ stared at the blue, white, and black and
muttered, "You can open a Gate...?"

"Amazing!" exclaimed Momo. The two struggled to stay on the ground, for the winds were
pulling them all into the Gate. Their hairs flew all over, and their clothes were pulled to
the hole. Finally, the winds stopped. SSJ and Momo relaxed as the Gate stopped opening.

Dark stepped towards the tunnel of many colors. "Come on," he said. "It'll only be open for
a minute." With that, he leapt in. SSJ and Momo exchanged glances. The two of them then
leapt inside.

They flew through a tunnel as blue, white, and black flashed all around. Momo looked around
in amazement, seeing something SSJ had seen one two many times. She knew not of the many
times he had traveled via these Gates, but she guessed plenty, seeing the normal expression
on his face.

Then she saw the other end of the tunnel, dazzling white and bright. She suddenly stood
upon the platform where Shadow and Black faced their counterparts not long ago. She looked
around the pure white space and saw the magical symbol on the ground, and far below, she
saw the Rood Inverse and the Mana Pool. She was completely surprised to see all of this,
only spoken of in old myths! "Oh, wow!" she said with excitement.

"Welcome, child," she then heard someone say. It sounded like a woman, young and soothing.
She turned and saw the beautiful form and face of Mauzel, standing in the center of the
platform. She gasped at Mauzel's overwhelming beauty, whose clothing only added to it.

Momo was silent, standing there behind SSJ and Dark. Mauzel gave her a calm smile and held
out her hand. The two looked back at her as she was just overcome by emotion, stepping
forward to grasp Mauzel's hand. She felt the smoothness. She saw Mauzel's radiance. It was
too much for a human! She began, "You're... You're... God!" She couldn't think of anything
else to say.

Mauzel smiled and nodded. "Yes," she replied. "I have many names. God, Yahweh, Allah,
Amaterasu, Zeus... But they are all the same." She then whispered to Momo's ear,
"Surprising, right?"

Momo just chuckled at that. She shook her head and replied, "No... I imagined God would be
beautiful, but..." Mauzel just put a finger on her lip. Momo said no more.

Momo turned back and saw SSJ smiling there. She stepped back and stood beside him as Mauzel
faced the three. "Welcome!" she greeted. She turned to Momo. "I didn't expect a normal
person to enter, but be glad! You're the first of your kind to come here!"

She then turned to SSJ, standing beside a teary-eyed Momo. "We meet again, SSJ. Tell me,
has my mana droplets helped?" SSJ nodded and gave her a thumbs-up.

She then finally turned to Dark. Her smile faded into a pained expression. SSJ and Momo
stared, wondering their relationship. "I apologize," she said to Dark. "The suffering, the
pain, the torment... They all were caused by me..."

The two saw her gaze fall to the ground. She shook, almost crying. But then, Dark placed a
hand on her shoulder. She looked up at him with surprise. She saw him smile. "It's not your
fault," he said calmly. She was overcome with emotion. "Come on, don't cry," said Dark.
"This is no time to cry, especially about this. Light... He was able to defeat me."

Mauzel looked at him with amazement. She looked at SSJ and Dark, seeing them grinning. She
couldn't believe it... Dark was the weakest of the shadows; he didn't have the physical
strength of Shadow nor the mental strength of Black. He was the outcast, a weakling in a
group of powerhouses.

But Dark could defeat them all from just his sheer willpower. His willpower shoved him
onward, unable to make him quit. He would win against those two on his own. Mauzel could
only wonder what SSJ did to defeat Dark, but it helped. She just said, "That's good."

They then spoke. They spoke of how SSJ had separated from his gang, how he met Dark again,
and how he finally defeated him. Mauzel absorbed it all, hearing every little detail about
how SSJ's words had pierced through the wall of Dark's hatred. Every detail was greeted
with, "Is that so?" or "That's good!"

Their conversation continued, and SSJ and Momo couldn't hold in their burning question.
"Hey," SSJ began as Momo said, "What..."

The two exchanged glances, knowing what each other would say. Mauzel and Dark quieted. SSJ
then sat back as Momo asked, "What is the relationship between you two? What happened?"

SSJ saw Mauzel twitch just slightly from the memory. But he knew, now that the worst was
over, she wouldn't be so saddened by it again. Mauzel turned to Dark, who just nodded.
Mauzel then began to speak, "Okay, this story won't take long. It all happened over the
past six months... Even then, it seemed like a lot has happened then..." Siria produced
chairs from nowhere and set them on the ground, one for each of them.

Everyone sat and listened intently as Mauzel took a breath. SSJ and Momo sat up, awaiting
the rest of the story. "Dark, as you know, SSJ, was the half of you that was left sleeping
in the tunnel when you arrived on Terra."

SSJ filled Momo in on what happened at his arrival, explaining everything in detail. Momo
nodded in comprehension and gave a long "Ooohhh..." in reply.

Mauzel continued, "Dark awoke within the tunnel and forced his way out. You see, the other
shadows only awakened after they arrived on Terra. Dark was different. He forced his way
out and ended in a peculiar place... Here."

SSJ and Momo were caught by surprise as Dark nodded in the background. "I was surprised,
for he was the first newcomer in the land except for Frank. He didn't belong here, but I
couldn't just throw him out, since he was so pained and depressing. He stayed with me for a
day or so. In that short time, he grew fond of me and my beauty. But, I couldn't help him
there."

"No matter how much he loved me, I couldn't return it. I was stuck in a dilemma. I didn't
want to hurt him, but I could not make him happy. I was the Master, and he was just half of
a boy from another world. But I came to a conclusion: he would be hurt eventually. I
decided that he had to leave, for his sake, not mine."

"I let him stay until finally the time came for me to open the gate and let him through.
That time was when Frank came and showed us your progress. Dark learned all there was about
himself, what he was and who he was. I remember what I said, 'You two are like opposites.
Like, he'd be the light, and you'd be the dark.' He took what I said to its fullest, and he
called himself Dark, apparently."

"I finally told him it was time to part. He cried and cried then as Frank opened the Gate.
He kept on reaching out to me was the Gate pulled him away. He kept on screaming my name,
'Siria! Siria!' But he couldn't fight against the pull of the Gate. But still, he reached
out, fighting the flow. He slowed down, his will power fought against the Gate. Frank and I
could not help but be amazed them. But he was still pulled away, and the Gate closed at
that."

Siria then took a breath, the memories overwhelming her. Dark seemed to not be affected by
it. He seemed to have gotten over that. SSJ and Momo were listening intently as she
continued, "That was about the time you met him near the circus. The very same day he was
pulled out, you ran into him, and he disappeared from your site. He was running since then,
not knowing of where to go. He just wished to see me."

"His wishes were answered, apparently, for a Gate opened then and took him to me. It was
amazing, he opened a Gate with just his willpower! I was caught off guard when the Gate
opened and I saw him through it. I saw his poor condition and wanted to save him. He
reached through the Gate as I went to grab his hand. It was then that I saw an image behind
him: Rantmon!"

"The Gate was closed by Frank then, right on his arm. I heard, just before the Gate
completely closed, his scream of pain. His limp arm fell down and down... Into the mana
pool. You know of its power. It completely destroyed what was left of the arm." SSJ and
Momo heard it with surprise. That's what he went through... And he's acting like it was
nothing.

"Frank showed me what happened to Dark. He reappeared near Osseke some days later. He had
been lost in the Gate for days. When he reappeared, I saw that he was in bad shape. He had
the wound treated then, but he could never live the same, I thought."

"He surprised me even more when he began moving things using his mind. He began fighting as
if he had an arm. He invented the Dark Arm. He was called a freak, a monster, and a scourge
for his power. He left and searched for months then, for two things: someone who could draw
an alchemy circle on the base of his stump, and magical cloth able to withstand a good many
metals to cover his arm. He found both soon after in the Graveborn Marshes. The only
persons who could have those were long exiled there."

"He then created his first summoned lance and returned to Osseke just as he heard you were
heading there. He followed to meet you and finally show you his power, after seeing a few
glimpses of you. He has blamed you for his pain. He thought, 'She would care so much about
him, yet I...' I could do nothing to stop him. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart,
SSJ." Mauzel finally concluded. SSJ grinned in reply.

"So, that's it, huh?" said SSJ. Siria nodded. SSJ stretched and got to his feet. He turned
to Dark and asked, "So, why did we come here?"

Dark rose to his feet. The two faced each other. Dark replied, "To hear that, first. Then,
we'll train here. This is the best place to train, since we'll absorb just the feel of the
mana in the mana pool. If you live here for just two days, you'll get stronger no matter
what. There are still nine days before Rantmon destroys the world, so we better get to
work. I have exhausted every idea I have for shadow attacks, but you have not one attack of
light."

SSJ just stood there, surprised. He replied, "What's the problem in that?" as he scratched
his head.

Dark sighed and scratched his head. He just said, "Look, have you wondered why I don't use
fire attacks or earth attacks? It's not that I can't- anyone can, if he has the right
amount of mana- but it's because you're more efficient in using mana on your element. The
attacks I saw in our duel were the Wind Slash and the Zero-Power, and they were terribly
inefficient. It takes you great effort to form a vacuum, a job better off for Sky elements."

SSJ nodded in apprehension. "So, I should focus more on Light attacks..." Dark nodded. SSJ
struggled to think of a good light attack. He pulled his hair, rubbed his forehead,
scratched his neck, and just stood there, thinking. Dark and the rest stared at him for a
good while before he said, "Like what?"

Everyone facefaulted. From the ground, Dark muttered, "That's why we have nine days..."

Author's Note:

[1] You should really download "Close to Your Heart". It is one of my favorite songs from
Aiuchi Rina, so I put in the whole thing. And I learned in a rather startling event that
this was used as the opening song for the 3rd season of Monster Rancher. Hey, they had good
taste!
