---- Recap ----

[Chibi characters of the Crew minus Davis appear in the foreground as scenes from the last
episode play in the background. Though, you can't see 'cause this is text. Haha!]

SSJ: Last time on GINGA GIRI GIRI!

Amiko: SSJ fights Rantmon. Yawn.

Kensou: He loses and some wierd stuff starts happening.

TM: And before we know it, a guy named Atma comes.

Cindy: He beats Rantmon, but Virus escapes with the help of the Nishiten.

All: Okay, on with the show!

---- Chapter 74: The War the World Forgot ----

Everything that happened after the battle with Rantmon was a blur. To Cindy, none of it
seemed rather important. What happened after Virus escaped was of no consequence, yet she
remembered it vaguely.

Immediately after Atma defeated Rantmon, Momo led everyone down to the depths of Rantmon's
island. There, they saw the halls of Rantmon's inner sanctum. The rooms with Rantmon's
plans. The forge of his weapons. The sphere in the middle of one of the rooms, where
Rantmon had used to send his mana clones. That was how SSJ and company entered directly
from Mauzel's plane. And even below that, they found what held up the island.

Within the lowest level of the island was a single hamster, endlessly chasing after a piece
of food just outside its wheel. Everyone looked at it with a sweatdrop. Their mouths
couldn't help but drop open.

Amiko let out the hamster and gave it a piece of food. It scurried off afterwards,
disappearing through the spherical gate. And after that, the island began to fall. Everyone
quickly made their ways out and onto their aircrafts. They were all safely off in time for
the island to come crashing down upon the sea.

***

A week passed since the War in the Sky. There was a tumult of cheers all throughout Century
City. Along the main road, thousands of people lined the sides to wait for the coming of
the parade. Balloons floated into the air, confetti rained on the area. First came the
giant band, with the trumpets, flutes, drums, and such. They all played a moving overture,
powerful and booming in the midst of the crowd.

There were the giant balloons, floating between the large buildings and under the pipelines
overhead. Every conceivable balloon of any shape was brought to the parade. No one cared;
every one was just filled with joy.

No one had a care in the world as the first car came, carrying Kino Tsumuji. Kino sat in
the back of the car, leaning back and resting his feet atop the head of the chairs before
him. He just smiled and relax, feeling the massive onslaught of cheers reaching him.

Behind him, there were the line of floats, upon each stood one of the Hokuten, happily
waving at the crowd. Anya waved at the crowd, smiling widely, and she was met with cheers
and hoots from the males. She sighed and wanted to be back in her old body.

Risika was waving as well from her garden float, and she was met with little cheers. She
felt envious for Anya's body at that point. She pouted and sat upon a chair that looked
like a rose. She looked in the crowd beside her float and was taken aback to see a sign
raised up that read, "Risika! Good job!" She saw her family, whom she hadn't seen in years.
She smiled and waved.

Paul received little cheers as well, not being the slim, good looking guy that Lee was. His
eyes were narrow as he stood in his Chinese float. Dragons dancers leapt, crouched, and
used the whole area all around his raised chair, with him dressed as the emperor. He
couldn't help but feel used.

Even Lee, who could only wave with his left arm, couldn't help but feel relief. The women
cried at the sight of his empty right sleeve. Paul gave him a narrow glance from ahead. Lee
couldn't help but sweatdrop. Still, he stood and waved at all the women from his snowy
mountain.

Orion sat in his float, decorated to look like a forest. His eyes were closed and his legs
crossed. He just meditated in the middle of the parade, make-shift trees shading him from
the sun. The others found that strangely appropriate.

The brilliantly decorated floats rolled past, and everyone saw the biggest float of all,
carrying the Crew. There were five platforms arranged as a pyramid, upon each one of the
Crew stood (two in the case of SSJ's platform, where Momo sat as well). At the top of the
float was TM, grinning from ear to ear and waving to all the women. Occasionally, he leapt
down to SSJ's platform at the bottom and greeted the ladies. SSJ kicked him from behind and
let him tumble off the float. Momo turned and saw TM fall in the midst of the ladies.

Cindy sweatdropped from the platform just above SSJ's, seeing TM sprint after the float.
Mokona was sitting upon her head, smiling widely. On the other side of the pyramid, Kensou
stood upon the bottom platform, smiling at the crowd who recognized him. Above him was
Amiko, grinning and waving excitedly at everyone. Tenpi ran around the platform, chirping
and leaping all over Amiko. Even he was happy.

Their float passed through the street, meeting gigantic cheers from everyone. The Hokuten,
as well, as the Crew and Kino, were the only ones to have survived battles with Rantmon.
Such a thing was extremely commendable.

The only weird thing was that the actual winner of the Rantmon Battle, as it was called,
was nowhere to be seen. Atma didn't arrive for the parade. In fact, soon after the battle,
he vanished entirely from the island.

And another person was missing. Davis Matthews was not among the Crew. Deep inside the
hearts of the Crew, they felt a little empty. Amidst the happiness of the world, they
couldn't feel happy inside. One of their best friends was dead. They could only wonder what
happened to him.

What happens when one dies? Where does one go? Is it different in this new world? They
couldn't find an answer, not even from Frank or Siria.

So the parade rolled on. As the last float passed the people, they moved and started
following the float. By then, the group behind the float was gigantic, a mass of people
condensed into one small area for the purpose of cheering. Everyone seemed happy then. The
Crew couldn't help but put a happy face to hide their pain.

***

The other parts of Century City weren't so lively. With all the people down upon the Main
Street, Black Amiko and Shadow leaned over the edge of a bridge above the parade. The many
balloons floated up to them, which Shadow took to popping with ice needles to pass the time.

When the parade came under them, they watched closely as the people far below cheered.
"Hah, look at them," Black Amiko said with a smile. "Seems like the past week never
happened."

"Yeah," replied Shadow. "Everyone hid from Rantmon, and now have come..." He grew silent.
He didn't say anything, but Black Amiko got the hint. She saw Shadow looking to the side
of the street, where two rather strange figures stood. They stood atop a plain building,
where the nearest bridge was close to twenty feet away. No normal human could jump that far
without a speed build up.

Black Amiko and Shadow nodded at each other. They leapt over the edge of the bridge.

***

"Well, isn't this interesting," muttered one of the figures as he looked down upon the
parade. "They're acting as if they're safe." The man leaned over to take a better look at
the floats in the distance. The metal, spiked plates covering his hands shown in the light-
called tekkou. He wore a black sleeveless shirt and dark blue pants held up by a sash.
Short black shoes protected his feet. His red hair flew all over the place. He had a tattoo
on his right shoulder- the kanji for "west".

Beside him was another, wearing a bandana over his black hair. His clothing seemed more
casual, a T-shirt with a wide collar and shorts held up by a black leather belt. His legs
were bandaged and his feet were covered by brown leather boots. His tattoo was partially
hidden under his left sleeve. He replied, "Isn't that right..."

The two then tensed up. They suddenly stood up at the corner of the building, tensing up.
They turned and saw Black Amiko and Shadow standing upon the building, weapons ready.
"Well, isn't this fun," Shadow said with a smirk.

"Who are you?" demanded Black Amiko, stern and serious. She tightly gripped her staff,
raising it at them.

The two exchanged glances. The one in the bandana pushed up the left sleeve of his shirt.
The one with the tekkou showed his right shoulder. Black Amiko and Shadow weren't surprised
to see the kanji for "west". Shadow sighed, "Looks like the Nishiten started moving again?"

The two just smiled. "Tch," said the one in the tekkou. "I don't want to fight a girl, eh,
Nataku?"

Nataku replied, "I could care less. I'll take her, then. Take the boy, Gouki." Gouki nodded.

Suddenly, from the back of Nataku's left hand burst shuriken. Black Amiko was taken aback
to see Nataku tear them out of his hand and throw them at her. In an instant, Black Amiko
split her staff and blocked the three of them. Nataku smiled. "Better than I thought," he
commented.

Gouki dashed at Shadow. Shadow stood in place as Gouki sprinted full speed at him. "I've
got you!" yelled Gouki as he was suddenly beside Shadow. He threw a punch at Shadow's face.
The spiked tekkou struck his cheek, but didn't cut. They stood like that for an instant,
Gouki taking a second to realize what happened. Gouki was taken aback. Shadow raised his
hand at Gouki, but didn't punch him. His hand was near Gouki's forehead.

In an instant, Gouki flew off the roof of the building at a high speed, reeling from a mere
flick. Shadow leapt after him. Nataku saw his comrade fly off and shouted, "Gouki-" He
suddenly was hit in the gut by Black Amiko's staff.

"You have no time to look away," Black Amiko said as she struck the side of his head with
her staff. Nataku flew back and swore. Nataku flipped away and leapt off of the building.
Black Amiko followed.

She sprinted down the side of the building, watching Nataku speed towards the ground,
pulled by gravity. She saw him hit the ground at an amazing speed, causing a tremendous
boom. She leapt off the building and landed heavily on the very ground at the bottom of
Century City.

She landed in a puddle of grimy water. The bottom of Century City was by far the worst
place to be. The unclean wastes always manage to find their way to the bottom of the city.
It was a maze of giant pillars, all holding up the bridges above. Black Amiko dashed after
the splashes, weaving through the concrete pillars.

Even if the foundation of Century City was solid concrete, it was buried under mounds of
trash and rancid waste. Black Amiko thankfully was able to ignore the smell as she chased
after Nataku.

She dashed past homeless men, clothes flayed and tearing apart. The bottom of the city was
the only place that those people could afford. No one but the desperate came down there.
Black Amiko sprinted after the figure of Nataku up ahead, barely visible in the darkness.

And finally, the splashing stopped. Amiko came to where the last heard it, and realized she
was in the middle of a crowd of old men. Nataku was nowhere to be seen. She looked upon the
ground. Not one footprint except for in the middle of the puddle she was at. No where near
it was another print. It was as if he had vanished.

She turned to the old men. None of them looked up at her; their eyes were focused on the
waste under them. She just swore and muttered, "Levitation." The wind circled around her,
throwing the waste and trash away. The disgusting substances landed all over the men, but
they didn't move. Wings of energy came from Black Amiko's back, and with that she floated
up towards the city.

It was silent for a good amount of time amongst the men. Not one moved. After the winds
settled and the trash stopped moving, one of them fell on his side. Blood spilled from his
back. He was dead. The others similarly had blood spilling all over the area. Except for
one. One of them stood up and sighed, "Man, that girl's persistent."

His face bulged. A lump appeared on his face as if the frame underneath was moving. His eye
color changed from a pale blue to the deepest crimson. His weak skeletal structure shifted
to a face with strong cheekbones. He let off the tattered cloak he wore to reveal the
clothes of Nataku, stained to an unbearable degree. From his back pocket, he pulled out his
bandana and tied it on.

'Man, that was close,' he thought to himself. 'Barely had enough time to hide.' Nataku
sighed and threw the cloak back at its owner, one of the dead men. He was glad of his
ability, then. It had saved him.

He looked up at the city and hoped Gouki could deal with that guy. He walked away from the
crowd of men and through the maze of pillars.

***

Rewind to when Gouki was flicked off the edge of the building by Shadow. He flew back,
tumbling through the air. Shadow leapt after him, forming a bridge of ice after him. Shadow
slid along it, speeding at Gouki.

Gouki flipped around and landed on his feet upon the side of a building. He looked up and
saw Shadow racing at him, Glacier in hand. Gouki dashed up the side of the building just as
the blade slashed through where he had stood.

Shadow looked up, noticing spikes on the soles of Gouki's shoes. Shadow jumped off the
bridge of ice as it melted, and he too dashed up the building. He chased after Gouki, who
disappeared over the edge of the building's side.

Shadow climbed up onto the roof of the building, and immediately received a punch directly
to his face. Shadow's face remained calm as he grabbed hold of Gouki's arm. Gouki struggled
to move, but Shadow's hand gripped him tightly. After a second, Shadow realized something
was wrong. Gouki should have felt the temperature of his skin. Shadow asked, "What are you?"

Gouki glared at Shadow. "What do you mean by that?!" he yelled as he pulled back his left
fist and threw it at Shadow. Shadow caught the fist in his other hand. He said, "You didn't
notice how cold my skin is. You don't even react, even after I have held your arm for this
long. Do you not have nerves or anything?"

With that, Shadow crushed Gouki's right arm and his left hand in an instant. Gouki didn't
scream. He leapt away from Shadow. Shadow then saw it. The wires and sparks coming from his
arm. Shadow muttered, "Android... No wonder."

Gouki glared at Shadow. "Tch," uttered Gouki. "Now you know." Gouki then said nothing as
his arm and hand began to reshape. Shadow saw with surprise as the fingers and shape of
Gouki's left hand, along with Gouki's right forearm, returned to their original form.

Shadow sighed, "Looks like trouble." Shadow quickly held his palm out at Gouki. Before
Gouki knew it, ice had encased his legs. He couldn't move. The ice slowly spread,
swallowing his arms and body.

During this, Gouki heard Nataku's voice in his head. "Time to go," Nataku commanded.

Gouki swore. He looked up at Shadow and smirked. "You're lucky that I wasn't serious,"
Gouki muttered before his head was trapped in ice, too.

"Say that when you're winning," Shadow replied as he shut his balled into a fist. "Blizzard
Tomb," he muttered as the ice caved in around Gouki.

Shadow sighed as the block of ice tipped over and fell on its side. He was about to turn
away, but then to his surprise, the android trapped in the ice began to move. He saw cracks
appear in the icy tomb, and soon, Gouki broke free from the prison. He was extremely
disfigured, body crushed and limbs hanging limply. Gouki just glared at him.

Gouki said, "I have no time for you," as he turned and dashed away.

Shadow's face quickly turned into a glare as his Glacier became longer than ever. He swung
the gigantic blade at Gouki. To Shadow's surprise, Gouki blocked with the tekkou. 'Huh?!'
thought Shadow. 'Those things can't be that strong!'

As if he read his mind, Gouki said over his shoulder, "They're invincible!" Gouki then
leapt over the other side of the building and disappeared. The Glacier sublimed, and Shadow
dashed after Gouki. He ran to the edge and looked down towards the bridges below. Gouki had
disappeared in the maze.

Shadow then heard footsteps behind him. He turned and saw Black Amiko, staff gripped
tightly in hand. She had lost her opponent, too. Black Amiko muttered, "These guys are like
rats."

Shadow nodded. He looked over the edge in search of Gouki. "Big rats," he added.

***

Somewhere in the world, nothing was heard but the sound of the sea. The sun was low in the
sky, about to set in the horizon. As the waves crashed onto the sand, it rolled over a
single person, sprawled prone in the sand. His black hair had sand all over it. He breathed
heavily. He slowly awoke, his brown eyes taking in everything. Jallopsimon had survived the
fall from Rantmon's palace.

He sighed, feeling sore all over. His arms ached, and his legs could hardly move without
inducing a stinging pain. Even worse than the rest of his body was his head, aching as if
it had been pounded by a hammer.

He pushed off the ground and got to his feet. He grabbed his head, throbbing repeatedly. He
looked up at the island, face distorted in agony. He was taken aback to see what was before
him. Before him was a small city that took up the whole island. He momentarily forgot the
pain as he saw everything in it.

There were automobiles that required rubber wheels, with no floating cars anywhere.
Buildings made of bricks and glass, quite rare in Terra, stood all over the city. Broken
streets full of potholes, billboards for an old brand of drink, a factory with giant
smokestacks; all of them stood before him, a testament to the past. Jallopsimon's head
throbbed even more.

Jallopsimon screamed and fell to his knees. He grabbed the sand in his pain, hoping the
pain would disappear. He felt visions come before him. He saw himself as a young boy,
sitting before a burnt building. The people about him had spoken in low voices.

He didn't hear what they said. He sat, looking up at the charred remains of the building,
covered with ash. Jallopsimon already saw this scene long ago. He tried to make sense of
it, trying to remember when this was. The sight of the city triggered this memory. The
cars, the buildings, and billboards, he remembered a place that had all of it.

Somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew he came from a place like that. A place that is
relatively ancient compared to a place like Century City. He raised his head, looking up at
the city. He wanted to remember where he came from. He wanted to remember before he met
Rantmon.

He felt a warm liquid come from his forehead, running down his face. He saw the liquid drip
off his nose and hit the sand. It was blood. His forehead was suddenly bleeding. He stepped
up, his head aching even more. He needed to know. He needed to remember where he came from.

He stepped into the city, where not a soul existed. No one was there to fear him. It was a
ghost town, silent except for the cries of the sea gulls sitting upon the unused factory.
He looked at the nearest window to see why his forehead was bleeding. He was taken aback to
see it.

Jallopsimon saw it clearly upon his forehead. The sweeping red lines and the clear circles.
A Rood Inverse had appeared upon his forehead.

***

The sun began to disappear behind the skyline of Century City. Night was falling upon the
city. The excitement and cheer of the people didn't die, for they still stayed about main
street celebrating. The Crew had left the crowds, and instead chose to take the private
pipeline into the capitol building.

As their seat stopped just inside, they saw the various guards and workers of the building
come to greet them. They forced smiles and walked past. They made their way through the
building, not hiding their depressed looks when they were alone. They turned a corner into
the hallway of their rooms. In the hallway of the rooms awaiting their arrival, there was a
single person.

Atma stood there, his weapon sheathed at his side. Everyone stopped in surprise. They were
all too stunned when Atma began, "I've been searching for you."

Amiko was the first to gather strength and reply, "We've been busy today..."

Atma nodded. He then said, "It is of little matter. As long as you all are here, it will be
fine."

SSJ then stepped forward. He looked Atma in the eye and asked, "Why have you come?"

Atma returned the serious look and answered, "I need to tell you about the world. The truth
about the war that the world forgot."
