Fan Fiction ❯ A Witch's Dream-Year One ❯ Letters And Lockets ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
A young girl looked out her window. She was dreading going back to that boring old
school. With a heavy sigh, she tried to tame her blond hair which was in a disarray. A
screeching noise outside her window broke her from her thoughts. She turned back to the
window to see a tawny owl perched there.

"What's an owl doing out in broad daylight?" She asked herself then noticed a letter in it's
beak. Curiousity overcame her as she pulled it off and watched the owl fly away

She turned it over ansd read

Eve's jaw dropped as she finished the letter then read it again to make sure she read it
correctly. Then she started jumping up and down with glee.

"Eve what is all the screaming about?" A woman with short black hair and blue eyes asked
her daughter with her head peaked through the door. Her daughter shoved the letter into
her hands and as she continued jumping around.

Her mother's reaction was similar to hers. When all of a sudden she asked.

"Are you sure you want to go? I mean what about Summitl?"

"Of course I want to go! Summit is so boring!"

"Ok then so where is the list?" Emma looked at her.

Eve dipped back into the envelope to find a peice of parchment she hadn't noticed earlier.

owl, a snowy owl, sitting on her windowsill, like the last one it was carrying a letter in it's
a beak which it dropped into Eve's outstretched hand and took off. She opened it to find
this one written in a much more casual style and regular black ink

"He seems like a really nice man." Her mother said as she read over Eve's shoulder.

"Yeah I guess" She started then looked at the calender on her wall "Oh no tomrrow is the
31st oh my gosh what am I gonna wear?!" The 11 year old had soon bounded over to her
wardrobe and was rumaged for a decent outfit.

"Calm down Eve" Her mother said forcing her onto the bed.

"Listen do you remeber those khaki pants and blue shirt I got you for christmas?"

Eve's face lit up as she skipped over to the closet and pulled it out,

"Now that that's taken care of I want you to come with me there's something I have for
you." Her mother with a touch of sadness in her voice. She took Eve's hand and led her
back downstairs and into her room, where she pulled out a small velvet box and opened it.

Insided was the most beautiful locket Eve had seen in her life. It was a golden heart
attached to a gold chain but the inside was blank. Eve quickly felt something wet drop on
her cheek.

"I can't take this mum. It is yours." Eve said as she pushed the box back into her mother's
hands but Emma just shook her head and said "It's yours now."

Eve just sat there and slowly pushed her hair up and turned around for her mother to
fasten it around her neck. She turned back around to see her mother wipe a few drops
from her eyes.

"Thank you mum I love it." She said as she embraced the woman in a hug.

"Now that that's settled how about some breakfast?" She said giving her daughter a grin
who nodded eagerly in reply.
