Chapter three: the new band

“So what job do you want to apply for Crow?” Katana asked looking through windows as they were walking. “Something that won't annoy me.” Crow responded. “That narrows it down to nothing.” Katana retorted. “It's not my fault people don't understand me.” Crow stated. “That's because you never give them a chance.” Anta replied. “I won't hesitate to try and kill you.” Crow growled. “Ok, ok.” Anta said waving his hands. “Idiot.” Crow said.
“We wouldn't even have to be here right now if you could keep a job Crow.” Katana interrupted. “Whatever.” Crow mumbled. “There he goes with his trade mark word.” Anta blurted out. “True, he always says that.” Katana stated. “I don't think he knows any other words.” Anta laughed. Crow growled and sped up, walking far ahead of his laughing siblings.
“Aw, come on Crow. We were just kidding around!” Katana yelled to her angry brother. “You were, but I was serious.” Anta said. “Shut up.” Katana said, grabbing her brother's hand and running to catch up with the other.
The triplets walked up to a window with a sign that read: `MUSICIANS WANTED'. They looked at each other and back at the sign. “Do you think they will hire anyone?” Anta asked. “I don't know. Let's check it out.” Katana said going into the building. They walked in and were immediately tackled from the sides. They all fell to the ground. “Did some one get the number on that license plate?” Anta asked in a daze. “What the hell happened?” Crow asked sitting up. “Guys!” a voice shouted to the triplets. Katana looked up to see four girls standing above them. “Oh, hey guys.” Katana said. “Hey, we'd figure you'd come in here when you saw the sign.” One of the shorter girls, Chiharu, stated. “Is that why you guys are here?” Anta asked, finally getting up. “Yeah, Crow needs a new job. Right?” another girl, Naiya, asked. “Yeah, good guess.” Katana said. “Again?” the two remaining girls, Kat and Hinote asked in unison. The triplets nodded. “Well, it looks like the Fallens are back together!” Chiharu shouted and smiled. “Why did we ever break up in the beginning?” Naiya asked. “We had school and jobs to think about.” Katana replied. “Well, you know that if you three start playing again, the Scorpios would be back together.” Hinote stated. “Yeah, but we may not even get a job.” Crow said. “Oh, c'mon. You guys play great music. I think they'll pick you. And maybe even us too!” Chiharu shouted.
The group waited hours for their turn to show what they could do. A man then walked through the double doors leading to the performance room. The man held up the clipboard in his hand and read the next name on the list. “Akurei's.” The man said. Crow, Anta, and Katana stood up and followed the man into the room. The doors shut behind them and they looked ahead to see three people sitting at a table. “They must be the judges.” Anta whispered to Katana. “No whispering! If you have anything to say, you say it to us!” one of the judges shouted. “So, tell us about yourselves. Do you play much? Does you band have a name? What instruments do you major in?” another judge asked more politely than the other. “Well, we're triplets. We use to play a lot, but we stopped because of school and work. Our band use to be called Scorpio, because of our sign. We all major in playing acoustic guitar, well, all types of guitar really, and we play the drums. My brother, Anta, plays the acoustic guitar the most. My other brother, Crow, plays the drums. And I play the electric guitar. We also play instruments such as the flute, the piano, and the violin.” Katana explained. “How interesting. So, what will you be playing for us today?” the second judge asked. “Um, we'll be singing one of our old songs called Reborn. It's a rock song.” Katana responded. The triplets picked up the instruments and sang:

Between the light and darkness
I ask myself why?
I look up to heaven
And see blood rain down from the sky

The angels are cryin'
The war has begun
To relieve our freedom
`til there's not but one

You hide behind the power
For guardians by your side
There's a voice inside that tells you
“You can run, but you can't hide.”

The wind around you whispers
For you to just give up
The fire just spreads quicker
It don't matter, it's not enough
Just surrender, it's the end now
The lives you live are now torn
Stop, it's no use to figure now
Just die and once again, once again be reborn.

I'm cryin', dieing, to see your face
I'm lost and I can't find my way
I need you, to see you, to know where I am
I beg you; I want you, here with me again

You hide behind the power
For guardians by your side
There's a voice inside that tells you
“You can run, but you can't hide.”

The wind around you whispers
For you to just give up
The fire just spreads quicker
It don't matter, it's not enough
Just surrender, it's the end now
The lives you live are now turn
Stop, it's no use to figure now
Just die and once again, once again be reborn.

The triplets finished with their song and waited to hear what the judges had to say about their performance. “That was great! You three are very talented.” The second judge stated. “In all my life, I have never heard such a song like this before in my life.” The third judge finally spoke up. The triplets smiled at each other and turned to hear what the first judge had to say. “At first, I thought you three were just another bunch of talentless teens that didn't know what music really was. But now I have to admit that I was wrong. You guys really have passion. Not only in your song, but in the rhythm of the music itself. You are definitely hired!” the third judge commented. The triplets looked at each other and shouted in unison, “Yes!” “We will be in contact with you.” The first judge stated before the triplets left.
They walked out to be greeted by their friends. “So how did it go?” Chiharu asked, jumping up and down. There was a long pause. When the friends were just about to think of the worse, the triplets spoke, “We're hired!” The triplets yelled. “That's great! Now if they could pick us too. Then it'll be like old times!” Kat shouted, dancing around in circles. “C'mon Katana, let's go.” Naiya smiled and pulled Katana with them. “Will they allow it? I mean, I already tried out.” Katana stated. “But you're a part of our band too!” Kat yelled. “Ok, ok.” Katana said.
The group of girls walked into the room the triplets just came out of. “We're here!” Chiharu shouted. “I see that. Wait. Weren't you just in here with your two brothers?” the first judge asked. “Yes, but I'm in two bands. I hope that's not a problem.” Katana responded. “I don't see why not. By all means, go ahead. We enjoyed your last performance.” One of the judges responded. “So what is the name of your band?” another judge asked. The band responded in unison, “Fallens.” The judges nodded their heads and waved their hands for them to begin. The Fallens sang:

I wonder why
I'm feeling this way
I've never heard the things
You wanted to say
When I see your smile
I kno it's ok.
I dream of you every day

You looked at me
And I felt like I died
And flew up to heaven
And started to cry
Your voice never stopped
I don't kno why
But when you looked at me
My heart did decide

You looked like an angel
Sent from above
Your aura surrounds me
And I fell in love
You said for me to trust you
You didn't care how
You'd love me forever
Forever starts now

You looked at me
And I felt like I died
And flew up to heaven
And started to cry
Your voice never stopped
I don't know why
But when you looked at me
My heart did decide

You said for me to trust you
You didn't care how
You'd love me forever
Forever starts now

I wonder why
I'm feeling this way
I've never heard the things
You wanted to say

You looked at me
And I felt like I died
And flew up to heaven
And started to cry
Your voice never stopped
I don't know why
But when you looked at me
My heart did decide

You'd love me forever
You wanted to say

The Fallens stopped and looked at the judges. The first judge spoke up, “Well, I'm going to be honest with you, that wasn't as good as your last performance. It was good and all but I didn't understand the song.” “It wasn't the best work I've witnessed but it wasn't the worse either.” The second judge commented. “I say you have a great talent, but you're not showing all of it, but I think with a little work you can become a great band.” The third judges stated. “So, does that mean we made it or not?” Chiharu asked. “You made it.” The first judge announced.
The Fallens screamed with excitement as they thanked the judges and ran out the room. As soon as they saw Crow and Anta, they ran over and all started yapping at once. “Ok, ok, one at a time.” Anta said trying to calm his sister and her friends. Kat was the first to speak, “We made it, barely but we made it!” “That's good, now our bands can get together.” Anta responded. “Yeah, we just have to wait for them to call us and give us a time we're supposed to be in.” Crow stated and started to walk out. “Crow wait up!” Katana and Anta shouted to their brother as they waved good bye to their friends and ran to catch up with him.
They were nervous, yet excited at the chance they would get to fulfill their dreams of becoming famous musicians. The triplets went home and told their family about the good news and waited for the call.
Later that week, they still didn't get any phone calls and thought that another band got their spots. They were starting to give up all hope of becoming famous, until that night, the phone came to life with its silent shattering ring. Katana hurriedly picked up the phone greeting the person with the usual `hello'. A little more hopeful sounding `hello' than usual.
Crow and Anta sat there staring at their sister's expression to see if it's one that they should be worried about or one that they should look forward to hearing the news that their sister was receiving from the person on the other line. They tried their best to figure out what Katana was talking about with the other person. She looked at her brothers and kept a leveled voice. The brothers tried to do their best to listen in on the conversation. No matter how good their hearing was, they couldn't hear anything that was being said on the other line.
Katana finally ended the conversation with a firm `goodbye' before hanging up and turning to her brothers. She stared at them with no expression before bursting out with screams of joy. “They want us to come back and record for them!” she screamed. “Really! Both bands?” Anta asked, a wide grin plastered on his face. “Yeah, both! We're supposed to be there tomorrow morning! I better go tell the rest!” With that, she left to inform her friends and family about the good news, leaving her to brothers in the living room.
“Isn't this great Crow?” Anta asked turning to his silent brother. Crow sat there staring at the ground. “What's wrong Crow? I thought you'd be as excited as we are.” Anta stated examining the look on his brother's face.
“I really never expected us to make it. We're amateurs. We don't know a single thing about this except how to play the instruments.” Crow responded.
“That's what it's supposed to be like. They're going to help us. They'll give us a manager, a producer, and more. We just have to play!” Anta smiled. Crow looked at his brother annoyed.
“Is that what you think it will be like? You're so stupid.” Crow said turning away from his brother's glare and looked at the TV.
“Man you are so egotistical!” Anta shouted. “You always complain and you always have to make things seem hard. One day your attitude about things is going to end up leaving you dead or lonely. You're too serious for your own good.” Anta said walking in the direction his sister went.
“And you're not serious enough.” The long haired brother whispered to himself. “Like I'd ever want to be like him.” Crow spoke to himself. “An idiot blonde with no brains.”
“And to think, he's not even a blonde. He has black hair like you.” A voice responded. Crow looked behind him.
“Hey Sage. Didn't hear you coming.” Crow said.
“So I heard you got the job as musicians.” Sage said sitting on the lounger beside Crow.
“Yeah.” Crow said bluntly and sat on the couch beside the lounger.
“Then why don't you sound excited?” Sage asked.
“I don't know, I really don't know.” Crow answered. “I love to play, there's no mistake in that, but somehow I feel like something big is about to happen.”
“Is it a feeling you have?” Sage asked curiously.
“More like a premonition. Lately I've been having these weird dreams of these faces. They don't look familiar, but I'm sure I know them from somewhere. And there's one that just sends a chill down my spine every time I see it. I know it, but I just can't place where I've seen it before.” Crow responded.
“Sounds like a bad dream to me.” Sage stated.
“Sage, I stopped having bad dreams long ago. Don't confuse me with my idiotic tri brother.” Crow stared at Crow.
Sage chuckled, “Yeah, but I do recall you waking up time after time in a cold sweat. Either that or mumbling incoherent things about mom or dad in your sleep.”
“I do not. I haven't had a dream about them since I was twelve. It's been two to three years since I've had a dream like that.” Crow said smiling. “I do miss them though.”
“Yeah, me too. We all do, but I think you, Katana and Anta miss them the most. You guys did spend the most time with them after all.” Sage said smiling at his little brother.
Crow smiled back. “You really think out of twenty-five kids, us three miss them more?”
“Yeah, you guys spent almost every waking moment with dad. And if you weren't with dad, you were with mom.” Sage answered.
“I guess we were pretty close to them.” Crow frowned.
“Pretty close? You three wouldn't leave their sides unless you had to. And that's what made it so hard for you to let them go after they passed away.” Sage said putting a hand on Crow's shoulder. “They loved you. I bet they're just as sad that they had to leave you three.”
Crow smiled at the reassurance his brother gave him. “Thanks Sage. I needed to hear that.”
“Even under that cold, distant mask you put on everyday, you have a soft spot just for them. And I know you also have a soft spot for Katana and Anta too.” Sage said.
“That's where you're wrong Sage. Yes, I do have one for Katana, because she looked out for me and helped me on more than one occasion. As for Anta, no way. He's been nothing but a pain in my side since we were little.” Crow argued.
“Why do you have such a grudge against him? It's like you actually want to kill him sometimes.” Sage stated.
“Because I do. He's annoying and he's tried to kill me more than once himself.” Crow answered.
“How did he try to kill you?” Sage asked crossing his arms.
“When dad let him drive the boat and he crashed and sent me flying in the water. I couldn't swim! And when he was playing around with your gun and almost shot me.” Crow responded.
“He was just fooling around.” Sage said casually.
“Well, his fooling around almost got me killed. That's why he needs to be a bit more serious.” Crow alleged.
“Maybe you should stop being so serious yourself. You need to have some fun.” Sage stated.
“I don't think that word exists in my vocabulary.” Crow chuckled.
“Right. I'm going to bed. It's getting late. See you tomorrow night.” Sage said getting up.
“Ok, tell Yaiba and Aleisha good night for me.” Crow said.
“Sure.” Sage said retreating to his room.
Crow sat alone for a while. Staring at the TV, not really watching or caring what was on. He could hear his sister and brother talking about the big and exciting news that they received that night. With a sigh, he also made his way to his room. He walked in letting his eyes adjust to the darkness of the room. “Sometimes I wonder why I decided to use black as my choice for a color.” He said to himself. He lay on his bed, staring at the bird designs on his ceiling that was a symbol for his own name. The red of the eyes stared back at him as if they were trying to communicate with the boy. He laughed quietly to himself and closed his eyes, immediately falling asleep.
