Travelers in the Dark

Disclaimer: I do not own the rights to The Lord of The Rings, though I wish

I was a cast member of the movies (Hey--18 months shooting LOTR would

be sweet!!! I would be some damn cool elf). I do not own the characters in

the Lord of the Rings books, but I do own:

Mike (not his real name)

Perk (pronounced as it sounds)

Heero (Thunderfox helped me with this character) (pronounced Hero)

Callo (pronounced Kallo or just Kal--as he is always called)

and any other character I put in that is original.

Chapter 1

Lothlorien

All that is gold does not glitter

not all those who wander are lost.

The old that are strong do not wither,

deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,

from the shadows a fire shall spring.

Renewed shall be blade that was broken,

crownless again shall be king.

--JRR Tolkien

The 19 old elf walked through the hallways of his dimly lit home. Few

candles were lit and hung on the walls. Darkness was omnipresent at this

hour, but the little light that came from the candles was a welcome visitor. It

was an ungodly hour, to say the least, but insomnia, as always, had struck

and, being the the night owl that he was, he thought that a walk through the

beautiful Lothlorien was in order. Mike walked through another door. The

walls were replaced with pillars and the room was widened. Suddenly, a

figure jumped out at Mike with a sword in his hands. Instinctively, Mike

pulled out his two daggers and pointed them at his could be assaillant.

"A little late, isn't it, Mike?"asked the figure.

"For my brother," said Mike, "I thought you had some common sense. Don't

even try to fool yourself into thinking you could kill me--or at least try to kill

me."

"If I wanted to, I could chop off your right leg with my very trusty sword

and then you would be dead elf hopping," replied the figure.

"You would be dead before your stroke fel," Mike replied with a smirk.

"Why you up? Can't sleep?"

"Yeah," said Mike. "Not only that however."

"Something doesn't feel right, does it?" asked Perk.

"Something--Something far from here. Something evil," replied Mike.

"I have felt it too," said Perk. "It is not the Dark Lord Sauron. It is much powerful than even he."

"What is it?" asked Mike.

"I don't know," replied Perk in a yawn.

"You are tired, Perk," said Mike. "Rest now. We shall speak of such matters

tomorrow."

"Farewell until the morn, then," replied Perk wearily walking back to room.

Mike continued his way outside. The lights in Lothlorien shone brightly

and beautifully, lighting a way for all the elves who were walking around the

city. Few elves, however were out to enjoy the beauty of the lights in the

dark. Mike walked around the land for a while. When Mike's restlessness

gave way to time, he began to walk back to his home. Out of nowhere,

another elf, Mike's age, popped out.

"Callo (pronouced Kallo)," said Mike, "what do you want?"

"Just goin' for a walk and wanted to say hi," replied Cal.

"Right, Cal," said Mike. "I'm gonna head back now."

"Restless as always, Greenleaf?" asked Cal.

"Yes," said Mike. "What's with you? You're always sleeping."

"I don't know," replied Cal. "I just have a bad feeling about something."

"Same here. I'm goin' now. See you tomorrow," said Mike.

"Goodnight, Greenleaf," said Cal as Mike began to walk back to the

Greenleaf estate.

[Alright---Author's Notes TIME!!!

Hm...I have the next two chapters written up, so don't dispair, they shall be

up soon. Mike and Perk Greenleaf are sons of Legolas Greenleaf. Their

mother is Laitoste (Quenya for Lauren). If ya didn't notice, I put my favorite original

character, Mike, in just about everything. The poem in the beginning relates to this

becuase the heros in this story are going to normal, regular people (elves, humans,

dwarves, wizards) that have fears and doubts. They don't follow the regular

"form" for heroes. They cannot dodge a speeding bullet (or arrow), they

cannot jump the tallest buildings, they do not have x-ray vision or eye beams.

They are "normal" (normal in the sense that they are elves, wizards, men,

hobbits, and dwarves).

How'd you like the first chapter? You know the deal...read and review.]
