An apprentice’s heart
Chapter 5

Spiritstar jumped to the ground. “Deerpaw, Silentpaw come on already let’s go.” he purred nudging the two siblings. The black and white tabby halted. “Where are we going?” Silentpaw asked. “Onto the rock, I have already discussed this with your mentor.” he purred.
“Something’s are miracles.” purred Spiritstar. Surprised Ruddypelt got out of Deerpaw’s way. The beautiful apprentice had changed since she last saw her. She was a dark ruddy color with pale white flecks, a puffy feathery tail, and a cream colored muzzle, chest, and belly.
Though she felt heart-broken around the younger cat, for though she hated admitting it. She had her brother’s heart from the very beginning. That same feeling was what made Ruddypelt hate Cheetahfur.
A new spark went through her body. She tilted her head and looked at the stars. Silentpaw padded up to Spiritstar.
His fur seemed to match with the dark skies. He didn’t shiver or show fear as Aquapaw has though. His claw unsheathed then sheathed continually from eagerness. Rainstorm padded over to where Cheetahfur had laid, beside her Sierranose flicked her tail with excitement.
“Finally we will have more warriors to replace the two we lost.” she purred. Rainstorm knew she was talking about Bronzestar and Sepiaclaw.
She stared up at Spiritstar. Beside him Silentpaw almost looked identical. “He is so cute.” purred Sierranose. Rainstorm couldn’t help but give her friend a confused smirk. “Cute, huh?” she asked still staring at her friend bewildered.
Deerpaw who was behind Silentpaw crept slowly toward her brother. Her long legs shivered as if she was going to be punished. “I think I love her.” purred Ruddypelt. Rainstorm pressed against her brother. “Then tell her already.” she meowed. She felt comforted by the scent of her brother.
Her heart had never had felt so bad. Cheetahfur would probably never say those words to her. She sighed. But maybe she could spy on her brother.
“Silentpaw from now on you will be known as Silentstep.” he purred. Silentstep nodded then gave a bow. Spiritstar padded over to the other black and white warrior. He rested his muzzle on Silentstep’s forehead.
He then took his head and gave a smirk to Deerpaw. “Your turn Deerpaw.” he meowed.
Deerpaw did a large swallowing noise then nodded. “I’m just a bit nervous.” she mewed.
“I can definitely tell.” growled Sierranose getting to her paws. “I’m going to congratulate Silentstep.” she meowed sarcastically as she stepped over toward the new warrior Silentstep. Rainstorm pressed closer to her brother. She never felt more left out in her life. She knew as soon as Deerpaw became a warrior he would be at her side.
“Deerpaw are you ready to become a warrior?” asked Spiritstar. She gasped. “I do.” she purred raising her head. Spiritstar gave a acknowledged nod. “Then from now on you will be not known as Deerpaw, but Deerheart.” he purred.
Deerheart purred loudly. “Thank you so much Spiritstar.” she meowed. “You’re welcome.” the great black and white tom meowed in reply. Cheetahfur and Tallfoot padded out of the medicine den, they talked silently as they passed by. Yet Rainstorm couldn’t help but feel that they were up to something.
She got to her feet as she saw them stalk out of camp, their tails both lashed excitedly. She followed them slowly out of the camp. Though they couldn’t see or hear her right now she could hear them. “Cheetahfur where did you go?” she meowed stopping just as she got out of camp.
“What am I doing? He doesn’t want to hang around me no more so why even wait for him any longer.” she growled shifting her body to turn around and face the camp.
Deerheart and Silentstep stood together near their mother Featherwind. “My kits are warriors.” she yowled giving their faces good amount of licks. Her eyes shined as if stars in the heavens. “I am proud as well it is about time we got new warriors.” purred Blackmuzzle padding over to greet Deerheart, then Silentstep.
“I have to find some new kinds of friends to hang around.” she purred. Moonbrook passed by her. “Moonbrook wait up.” Rainstorm pleaded. “I need a friend to talk to.” she whined catching up to the larger queen.
“Oh, Rainstorm how are you doing?” she asked flicking her tail. “I am lonely.” the white warrior meowed. Moonbrook nodded. “Come on inside the nursery with me would you?” she asked padding over to a small nest. “You now I am going to have kits in a few moons, don’t you?” asked the pale gold queen. “Yes Sierranose told me.” Rainstorm meowed.
“I don’t know if I can be much of a friend to you though but I can sure try.” purred Moonbrook. “After all you are desperate.” laughed Moonbrook. “Thanks you really can cheer someone up.” meowed Rainstorm.
“I’m sorry Rainstorm, I’m just joking.” Moonbrook giggled. “The times will be hard.” she added.
The ground rattled as she moved forward. “My brother and my best friends are too busy to hang around me anymore.” she growled. “Just because they are not with you doesn’t mean they aren’t your friends. “But did Bramblefur ever do this to you, or a sibling?” she growled.
“No but, you must learn something. Rainstorm, if someone really loves you, they will understand. You must learn to follow your heart.” purred Moonbrook.
“You will understand it when the time is right.” she added. “Now do you want to go and hunt?” Rainstorm could only smile as she followed the pale gold warrior out of the den.
