If he was out by his base then the perp probably sneaked up from behind him and clawed him. But to sneak up from behind a tree, which there are plenty of in the forest, it would be inconvenient and slower to use the left hand...even if it was the dominant one!

 

WHAT HAPPENED AFTER

Rachel and Conan wouldn't tell how they'd uncovered the secret. But since Hatori wasn't around anymore (You should see her, she just got up from the computer to do the happy dance.) they had to let them in. This was a forensic story I dreamed up myself. If I got something wrong, please tell me.
