The tears wouldn't stop coming.

Relena bit her lip, hard, for what seemed like the millionth time in a
week.

She had almost forgotten what she was crying about.

Almost.

But those luminous black, searing eyes seemed to
haunt her…she could still picture them in her mind…boring into hers…a hidden
light, a hidden destiny…

A hidden fate…

Tears spilled over her cheeks.

She wasn't supposed to fall for the dragon…she was
supposed to fall for the soldier, the hope for peace, the savior of Earth…

The princess and the soldier, damn it, that's how it
was supposed to happen…that's how it was supposed to come out…that's how she
was supposed to feel…

Why the hell was she crying again, anyway!

More tears spilled.

It had been a week, damn it, a week. She had left
that damned house, and all the memories of that damned man, and that damned
night.

That damned night…

She could still feel his kisses, his hands caresses,
the way he whispered to her in words she did not understand, but somehow knew
what he was feeling…what his heart was telling her…

It was beyond her control again…the tears.

The doorbell rang, and she somehow heard it.

Numbly she stood from her chair by the door, and
lifted her single suitcase into her hand. Her brain harbored no thoughts, no
feelings, no emotions.

Nor her heart…

Damn her heart…

Even those few words were just that now.

Words.

She opened the large oak door with her other
hand, revealing Peygan on the other side, smiling that aged, loving smile of
his.

She wanted to smile back…but…she couldn't even
force herself to…

Peygan's smile turned sympathetic, and she knew
he could tell something was amiss.

But instead of discussing it, he simply relieved
her of her suitcase and carried it ahead of her to the limousine that awaited
them.

It was pink…

Something inside her wanted to cry all over
again. He brought it…as if trying to tell her nothing had changed…that life was
still the same…

Her eyes sought Peygan's over the cars' roof, and
he smiled again at her.

Relena's eyes began to water again, and she
ducked down inside the automobile before he could see her tears.

Minutes later they were coasting down the old
dirt path, over the stones and ruts that mangled their trip, and bumped its
passengers ever so slightly.

The old house was disappearing behind them…with
its old shutters, and its old doors, and its old memories…

God, the memories…

Then, as if it where new to her, as if it was the
first time she realized what a infernal life she led…how decrepit she was…

All she really wanted, all she needed…she didn't
know what she needed…something wasn't right, couldn't be right, with her, as a
person…why the hell would she have to suffer this much! Was she really meant to
have to carry her own personal burdens as well as her countries! Was she being
selfish! Was anyone supposed to carry their own burdens as well as others!

Was this really the effect that damned man had on
her?

Relena collapsed to the car seat and unleashed
her pain into the soft leather interior, beating away her stress with her
dainty fists…falling apart to never be collected again…

But her sorrows couldn't even be washed away with
her stinging tears.

Peygan looked sadly into the rearview mirror, but
kept silent to let the woman she her teardrops.

The sunlight poured down inside her windows
again…its shafts of light waking the distressed princess. She stirred softly on
her blankets, before slowly opening her eyes, cautiously letting light affect
her pupils.

Lazily, she leaned herself up on the downy cover,
and surveyed the room out of habit.

She gasped.

A man was sitting on the edge of her bed, and he was
looking directly into her eyes.
