"Inuyasha, I said I was sorry. Will you just get over it already, you should be happy I came back at all."

Inuyasha and Kagome were in the clearing near the well arguing. Kagome had gone back to her time because she had a test and told them that she would be back in two days. The only problem was that that was three and a half days ago. She didn't like the fact that she had lied but she needed some time to herself once and while. She had been in the feudal era hunting shards non-stop and her grades were dropping, she felt so guilty when her friends had called thinking she had been sick. They sounded so worried she could have broken down in tears. Besides it's not like she had done it on purpose, it was more of a last minute thing.

She had been lying to them for such a long time and felt so bad about it that she had spent an extra day at the mall with them. And now Inuyasha was blowing up at her because she told one lie to him, even after her friends had been told over a hundred; even after she apologized and promised not to do it again; even after she had gotten him extra ramen. And it still wasn't enough for him.

"You don't have a damn choice, `cause if you didn't come back on your own then I would drag your ass back!"

"You do not own me Inuyasha! I thought we were friends, you could at least be a little understanding!"

"Friends!?" The sarcastic laughter in his voice when he said that made Kagome blink.

"Why would I ever want to be friends with someone like you? You can barley shoot a bow and arrow, I'm always rescuing you, and you're always running off to that school thing, we can't depend on you! You're a shard detector, and not very good at that!"

Kagome felt like he had punched her in the stomach with ever word, she could feel the tears beginning to collect behind her eyes. She couldn't even breathe regularly anymore, it was more like short disparate gasps as her chest tightened and her throat closed. She backed away from him and hid her eyes under her bangs. It was then that Inuyasha realized he had gone too far this time. In all honesty he didn't mean it, he was just hurt that she had lied to him; he never thought that she would lie to him. And because he was hurt he just ran his mouth without thinking. He was about to go to her when he heard her speak. Her voice was so small and hurt that he wanted to pull her to him and apologize over and over again.

"I'm sorry that I'm such a burden, but I thought you wanted me hear with you because we were friends and you cared about me like I do you. And I wanted to help put the jewel back together because it's my fault that it's broken, but if I'm doing such a terrible job then I'll leave and you won't have to deal with me anymore." She was crying now, but she couldn't help it, what he'd said hurt but it also made her realize the truth.

"I want to go and say good-bye to everyone."

Before Inuyasha could say anything Kagome was running in the direction of the village. He couldn't bring himself to follow her. He just sat down and leaned against the side of the well.

`Maybe it is best that she leave for good then she wouldn't have to deal with me hurting her all the time, all those times she called me a jerk, she was right I am and I don't deserve her friendship or any form of her love.'

Inuyasha made up his mind, he would let her go. When she came back to the well he would apologize for what he said and tell her that she was better off without him. Inuyasha brought his hand up and ran down his face in sorrow, that's when he noticed his face was wet; he was crying. He just sat there staring at his hand for the longest time, he hadn't cried since his mother died; not even when he learned that Kikyou had died.
Sango and Shippou watched the whole thing from behind the trees and bushes, they were shocked at what Inuyasha said and shocked like Inuyasha himself to him see cry.

"Sango we should get back to the hut to talk Kagome out of leaving." Sango only nodded and they walked away toward the village.

Kagome didn't go the village, she wasn't ready for that and didn't ever want to be. She didn't want to leave. For all it was lacking she liked the feudal era, no noise, no pollution, and her new friends. She knew it would be impossible to get over Inuyasha if she left now, he didn't love her but she had very strong feelings for him. Even when she was in school or studying she couldn't really focus, she was always wondering what he was doing or if he was okay. She remembered when he'd pushed her down the well after that fight with Sesshoumaru, his wounds hadn't healed and she nearly went out of her mind worrying about him. He had hugged her before he'd pushed her in and told her how he had been scared, the memory still made her blush. Shippou had told her how he said he hadn't wanted her to see the gory fights and battles they had to go through, so she knew he did it with the best intentions in mind to keep her safe. That's one of the reasons she couldn't believe what he had just said to her.

But maybe he just wanted Kikyou at his side instead of her. Kagome pulled her knees to her chest and rested her chin on them. She made a promise that she would stay with him until he didn't want her to anymore and it looked like he was releasing her from that promise, but she didn't want to be released. She knew she needed to enjoy her last few moments in the feudal era while she could; no doubt he would come to find her after a while. Kagome closed her eyes and cried; she couldn't help but blame herself. If she hadn't lied and had not stayed that extra day none of this would have happened, her friends could have waited. It didn't matter if she was there or not they always had plenty of boys to keep them busy while she was gone and all they'd tried to do at the mall was convince her to go out with Houjo. No, that wasn't worth the pain she was in right now.
She felt a breeze blow from behind her but thought nothing of it until a familiar voice called out to her.

"Hey Kagome." She looked behind her, it was Kouga. Kagome quickly turned her head back around so he couldn't see the tear streaks on her face.

"Oh, hi Kouga."

"I smell tears, have you been crying?" Kagome let out a breath; she had forgotten his sense of smell. She didn't respond to his question and after a few seconds he came and sat beside her.

"Kagome tell me who hurt you. It was dog breath wasn't it? Just wait until I find him!" Kouga was standing now.

"Kouga no, it's not his fault!" Kouga seemed to calm a little and turned his attention back to her.

"Kagome why do you stay with him? You're my woman and I love you and I want you to be with me." Kagome didn't move, she just kept her knees to her chest and looked straight.

"Kouga, I don't believe you truly love me, when we first met you only wanted me because I could see jewel shards."

`He would just think of me as a shard detector too.'

"That's not the only reason Kagome." She looked over at him at this.

"I also wanted you because I saw how loyal you are. It's hard to find loyalty in most females. And since we met I've been nothing but loyal to you. I wouldn't have been if I didn't love you."

His words made her want to cry more, sure she thought of Kouga as a friend but love? And after what just took place between she and Inuyasha, she didn't know what to believe anymore; apparently she wasn't a very good judge of character.

"Kouga, I don't know." She shook her head and tears started to fall again. Kouga knelled next her and lifted her chin to meet his gaze, and he wiped away a tear with his thumb.

"Kagome believe me when I say I love you and if you need me to swear it, I will." Kouga stood at his full height and looked at Kagome with the most determined expression she had ever seen.

"I, Prince Kouga of the Demon Wolf Tribe, promise myself to you; if you are mine I will take no other as my life mate. I will be yours and no others as you are to me, I will protect you from whatever danger and care for you in any way. You will be the keeper of my heart and soul as I am to you. You have my love Kagome. I swear it."

Kagome sat there completely and utterly stunned. She was completely cod mouthed and rightfully so, after all, what would you do after someone vowed himself or herself to you like that?

`He just swore his love to me! I don't love Kouga like Inuyasha but with Kouga I wouldn't have to worry about him leaving me for hell. And he has never said anything to hurt me. Inuyasha won't like this but he doesn't want me around anyway, and right now I need someone who's willing to take care of me; to love me for who I am. I need someone who doesn't just think of me as the bad copy of their dead girlfriend.'

"Will I be able to visit my friends and go home to my family when I want?" Kouga, who had been waiting with anticipation for her to answer, grinned. She was finally accepting him.

"Whatever would make you happy, my Kagome. Of course I would have to go with you to protect you and let your family know that I am your mate now."

Kagome could deal with that little problem when the time came. At least he wasn't yelling “no”. And her mother already accepted Inuyasha as her friend so Kouga should be fine, if she sat down and explained things to her. Kouga couldn't come through the well, he didn't even know she was from the future. But all these complications seemed so little right now. She was riding a wave of relief that someone did care for her and nothing else seemed to matter.

"Yes Kouga, I'll go with you." Kouga's smile widened and he picked her up when she stood. They disappeared leaving behind a cloud of dust.

Shippou saw the whole thing; he had gone looking for Kagome when he and Sango got back to the village and she wasn't there. Now he had to get back and tell everyone what happened. He didn't want Kagome to leave with Kouga.
`This is all Inuyasha's fault!'

At den of the wolf demons a celebration was going on for Kouga and Kagome. Everyone was dancing to music, eating, drinking. But Kagome getting more nervous by the minute. The women told her that in order to become mates, she and Kouga would have to share their bodies with one another. Kagome had never had sex before and didn't really know if she wanted her first time to be with Kouga. Yes, she had thought about it before, but those most recent fantasies had been her and Inuyasha. She didn't even know Kouga all that well. That wave of relief had begun to dissipate and her logic was returning quickly.

The sun was sitting and the celebration was coming to and end. She had to sit through all the toasts, speeches, and wishes of good luck then she would be expected to lose her virginity to the man sitting beside her. Kagome could feel her stomach give another jerk of nervousness, she wanted nothing more right now than to lean over and tell Kouga she couldn't do this yet. But she had already agreed and this was how demons did things. She wouldn't have to worry about him dumping her after having sex with her like it had happened with so many girls at school. He had promised himself to her forever and the women also told her that that vow would never be broken after they mated, he would never leave her and she could never leave him. To her it sounded like a comfort and a curse.

She couldn't help but wonder what Inuyasha was doing right now; if he had come looking for her to send her home and what would he say when he found out that she had mated with his rival? She paled when she imagined the fight that would ensue once that day came. What if he never spoke to her again? Whether he liked it or not he had been her best friend and first love. She couldn't change that even if she wanted to and she never wanted to be parted from him.

Ginta and Hakkaku gave the last speech and Kagome's palms got sweaty. It felt like someone had sat a bolder on her chest. Kouga stood and took her hand to help her up, and everyone cheered and clapped as they walked back into his privet chambers. As they got farther into the caves the sound of the celebration started to fade. In her ears her heart beat got louder, she was sure Kouga could hear it too and just wasn't saying anything. They walked inside a large room with fur rugs on the floor and a fire place that was blazing. The futon was covered with furs and pillows and to anyone else it would appear comfortable but to Kagome it looked more terrifying than anything she had ever seen. Kouga came around in front of her blocking the view of the bed.

"Kagome I know your nervous, but I promise to be gentle." He gave her hug, which she returned weakly.

Then he kissed her right cheek and continued down her jaw line to her neck. Kagome had gone completely numb; she could hardly feel what he was doing. The only thing she could feel was the pounding of her heart and the uncomfortable tight feeling in her stomach. When Kouga kissed her she was caught off guard, which he took advantage of and slipped his tongue in her mouth. Kagome knew it was over, all those day-dreams and fantasies of sharing all her firsts with Inuyasha were not coming true, how could they when Kouga was taking her first kiss?

Kagome's senses came back at full force and she felt Kouga's hands roaming her body, down her sides and back. All she could was hold on and try to respond to him. She closed her eyes, which had been open through the whole kiss, when Kouga ripped off her shirt. She squeezed them tighter when his hand came up to massage her left breast through the fabric of her bra. Her skirt was next, and Kagome's knees went weak but luckily that's when Kouga chose to pick her up walk over to the bed.

He laid her down and stood back up, Kagome watched taking slow deep breaths as Kouga undressed in front of her. He took off his fur and armor until the only thing that covered him was a loincloth. He was muscled and tanned all over. She knew she should have been happy; she would be mated to a very good looking male who wanted to take care of her and be with her; but she wasn't. Kouga took the hair band out of his hair and Kagome watched as his jet black tresses flowed down over his shoulders and framed his face beautifully.

She froze when he settled himself in top of her with one leg in between hers; he entwined his fingers with hers and started kissing her again and grinding his thigh against her core. Kagome knew she couldn't do this and was about to push Kouga away but she didn't have too. Kouga's weight was suddenly lifted from her body and thrown across the room. All she saw was a blur of red fly at him as he slumped to floor. She turned her head away because she knew who it was and this answered her questions of what Inuyasha would do once he found out. But how had he found out so soon? She could hear the sound of breaking bones and painful grunts. Kagome still had her head turned toward the fireplace when she felt herself being lifted up none too gently. Before she could say a word she was thrown over what had to be his shoulder as he sped out of the den. The last she saw of Kouga, he was unconscious lying in a pool of his own blood.

Kagome watched as the forest went by in a blur of green; she had never remembered Inuyasha being able to move so fast before. She was worried about Kouga, but couldn't help the small amount of relief wash over her when they'd been interrupted. But her nervousness returned when the reality of her present state dawned on her. What would he do to her? Kagome wanted to know what was going on in his mind but she was half afraid of what she would find there.

When Shippou came running into the clearing, he was still sitting against the well with everyone else. He had assumed that they came to yell at him for driving Kagome away. But, they instead told him that Kouga had showed up and taken Kagome, but this time she went willingly. And before even Inuyasha knew what his body was doing, he was up running in the direction of Kouga tribe. He had injured most the guards and followed Kagome's scent, which was soaked in a nervous odor, back into the caves. What he saw when he got his destination made him literally see red, the sight of Kouga on top of Kagome kissing and grinding himself on her while they were both half naked was too much. All he could think of was hurting Kouga. He could feel the bloodlust grow with every bone-breaking punch he gave and he didn't care.

The only thing that made him able to think somewhat clearly was the fact that he had Tetsuseiga with him. The smell of Kagome's fear had calmed him down, but there was no way he was leaving her there. He wanted answers from her, if she truly wanted to be with Kouga he wanted to hear her say it. But the anxiety that he had smelled in that room from her scent told him she didn't, so what was she thinking? His grip on her tightened when he smelt the beginnings of her fear. He didn't mean to scare her but he couldn't stand the thought of losing her to anyone, much less Kouga. So with speed he never knew he had, he raced back to his forest to try and talk some sense into her. His speed had surprised him too, but he was always better when she was near or in danger.

Inuyasha took her deep into his forest to a little clearing where he went to when he wanted to be alone. It was hidden by long tree vines and over grown shrubs, so they would have some privacy. He sat her down a little roughly and turned his back to her, she was still only dressed in those scraps of cloth. He took off his fire rat jacket and tossed it over his shoulder to her. He listened to the rustling of fabric as she put it on without a word. And for the longest time neither of them said anything. He didn't turn to face her and she just stared at his back.

"Why?" It was the only thing he could manage to get out at the moment.

Kagome didn't really know how to answer him, she could explain her reasons to him but they sounded stupid even to her. But he wanted an answer and in some right deserved one.

"I…you." Kagome sighed in frustration; she couldn't even get her words to come out right.

"Kouga; he gave this vow of love to me and promised to take care of me. I didn't want to leave and with him I could stay. I…" She didn't know what else to say or how to say it.
Inuyasha listened to the way her words came out so unsure, he could tell she was upset and from what she was saying it sounded like Kouga took advantage of that; whether he knew it or not.

`He made the vow of mates to her?'

He could remember the long winded speech Myouga had given him about that. At the time he wasn't really listening because he thought, being a hanyou, he would never mate. But when he and Kikyou started getting serious he'd asked Myouga to explain it again. But since Kikyou wanted him to become human and get married like humans did the information was useless until now. But something Kagome said bothered him.

"You were about to give yourself to him because you didn't want to leave?" His voice held an air of disbelieve. Would his Kagome do something like that?

"No, he said he loved me and it felt good to have someone care for me." She had her knees to her chest with her right cheek resting on then so she was facing away from him.
She just wanted to shrink into herself or sink into the forest floor.

"Kagome we care for you, you know that."

"It was different, all of you care for me as a friend, or at least I thought you did. Kouga loved me in a different way, like a man loves a woman." Inuyasha could feel the pin pricks of tears in his eyes.

`She thinks I really don't care about her, she did this because of me. It's my fault she was about to lose her innocents.'

"Kagome I'm so sorry. I didn't mean what I said, I was just hurt!" He had spun around to face her now and she saw more emotions in his face in that one moment then she had ever seen in her collective time with him.

Now it was Kagome's turn to feel bad. She had lied to him and hurt him; it had been enough to make him admit he was sorry which was something he hardly ever did.

"Inuyasha I didn't mean to lie to you on purpose. It's just that my friends from my time wanted to spend some time with me and it's not fair that they worry about me being sick all the time when I'm over here and I'm actually perfectly fine. I'm sorry." Inuyasha bowed his head he had forgotten that she had friends in her time; it was hard for him to admit that her world doesn't revolve around him.

"I know I'm really not that much help when we have to fight and stuff, but I could practice more with my bow if you want so I can get better." Once again Inuyasha felt like a jerk, and he decided right then that he should learn to think before he spoke.

"Kagome, I'm sorry. You have gotten so much better at your archery since the first time I met you. And it's you and your arrows that have saved us a lot of times. Do you remember when we followed Sango to Naraku's castle after she stole Tetsusaiga?" Kagome gave a nod but her eyes were still on the ground.

"Sango was injured and she had to fight her bother, Naraku would have killed us if it weren't for you." At this she looked up at him and gave a weak smile.

This encouraged Inuyasha enough to sit down in front of her. Her eyes where puffy from all the day's crying and she looked tired, probably from all the emotional stress she'd gone through today. But to him she was still beautiful, and he decided that now was as good a time as any to tell her what he'd been thinking about before the news of her abduction reached him.

"Kagome, I did a lot of thinking. What if I wanted you to stay with me? Would you?" Kagome felt her heart jump, what was he asking her this for? And how could she answer him?

"Inuyasha, I don't know what you mean." She wanted to get what he was saying straight just in case she misinterpreted him. Inuyasha dropped his eyes to the ground; this was the hardest thing he had ever done, bar none.

"Kagome after you left me at the well today, I did something I hadn't done since my mother died. Something I thought I would never do again; I cried. I cried because I had hurt you, the only person I've ever truly trusted or cared about since my mother's death, and I just keep hurting you." Kagome felt like the world had stopped and everything inside of her was waiting on him to finish. She just hoped she didn't pass out before he did.

"And when I found out that you had gone off with Kouga to be his mate, I was angry but more scared than anything. I was afraid I was going to lose you. Kagome I have never been so scared in my life, I never had feelings for someone like I have for you. And what happened today with Kouga, I never want that to happen again. I never want to be that scared again." He looked up from the ground to stare into her eyes, and the intensity she saw there was overwhelming.

"And I never want you in that position again unless it's with me. Kagome I want you to be my mate."

"But you and Kikyou…you said you'd go to hell with her. How can you go with her if we're together?" Her breathing intake was erratic and she felt like she would just burst on the spot, had he actually said all that?

"I know what I promised to Kikyou, but I don't want that anymore and I don't want to think about her right now. I'll deal with her when I have to, but right now I want to be with you."

Kagome couldn't hold it in any longer, tears spilled from her eyes as she took in all he had said, what she had been waiting to hear for so long. Without warning she launched herself into his arms and cried. She was mumbling word into his chest, but his ears picked it up, she was saying yes. Inuyasha sighed and wrapped his arms around her and stroked her back, he allowed himself to relax for the first time in hours. Kagome wanted to be with him that thought alone made him smile. But there was still one problem.

"You smell like him."

"Huh?" Kagome pulled back to look at him.

"You still smell like Kouga."

"I'm sorry" She avoided his eyes, and suddenly felt dirty.

"We can get rid of that though." Inuyasha nuzzled her neck and licked her pulse. Kagome shuddered at the feeling and warm coiling sensation started in her lower abdomen.

Inuyasha smelled her arousal coming to life and growled. He used his fangs to nip at her soft skin then suck the abused area. Kagome wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer. She gasped when she felt his lips on hers and moaned when his tongue slipped into her mouth. It was nothing like Kouga's kiss, which made her feel numb and awkward. Inuyasha's kiss made her feel alive and heated, like she could just melt into him, which is what she wanted to do.

Inuyasha slipped his hands into the fire rat jacket she was still wearing and ran his hands over her hot skin. He could spend the rest of his life surrounded by her heat, and he would be able to do just that after tonight. He brought her up to her knees and wrapped his arms around her waist while their tongues massaged each other. Keeping his mouth locked with hers he pushed the jack off her shoulders and shredded her bra with is claws. He abandoned her mouth to suck on the exposed nipples.

Kagome sighed in pleasure and buried her fingers into his hair. She moaned out loud when he switched to the other rosy nub. He leaned her back onto his jacket on the ground as he kissed a trail from between her breast down her stomach. Kagome whimpered when he nuzzled her center through the damp material of her panties. When he ripped through the thin fabric with his claws she felt the winding sensation coil tighter and the cold air clashed with her heated skin.

Inuyasha's nose was filled with the scent of Kagome arousal; everything within his being was focused on naked beauty beneath him. Kagome screamed his name when he licked the slit of her folds, and his ego inflated; as did another part of his body. She bucked against and Inuyasha gripped her thighs and spread them apart to open her to him. His ears were filled with the sounds of her moans, screams, and gasps as he probed her with his tongue and suckled the little nub of flesh he found. She was so sweet that he knew he could live off of her taste.

Kagome moaned a broken version of his name and screamed. He felt the walls of her core spasm around his tongue. Inuyasha wasn't exactly sure what had just happen but he knew he wanted to be inside of her when it happened again. Inuyasha quickly ridded himself of his clothes while Kagome tried to regain control over her breathing. When she finally noticed that Inuyasha was naked, she let her eyes wonder over his body. His muscles were more toned than Kouga's, especially his abs, and he was tanned to perfection. Kagome let her eyes drop to the part she most wanted to see, he was big and completely hard, and so beautiful.

Inuyasha could tell she was nervous, so was he; it was his first time too. But he would not hurt her more than he needed to. He laid himself between her legs, and smiled to himself about how well they fitted together. He kissed her gently and instantly all of her apprehensions disappeared. She didn't care how much it would hurt; she just wanted to be one with him.

Kagome took slow deep breaths when Inuyasha started to push into her, and held onto him. Then she could feel him pressing against something inside of her. Inuyasha felt it too, but he steeled his courage and drove himself into her with one quick thrust. Kagome gave a cry of pain and he had to flatten his ears against his head. She buried her face into his neck and gritted her teeth against the pain, her breathing was jerky and tears were coming from her eyes. Inuyasha stayed as still as he could inside of her. He was inside of her, that thought alone was enough to make him come, but he held it back.

Gradually Kagome began to relax under him and he started to move at a slow pace. She was so tight and wet, it felt good to be inside of her like this, but he controlled his demon side not wanting to hurt her. At first it was nothing but throbbing pain, and when he started to move in her, it felt like she was being stabbed. But the pain diminished to a weak sting, and she began to feel more pleasure from the action.

She moaned and wrapped her legs around his waist, holding him to her tighter. The sounds they were making only made each other more aroused and the pace quickened. The knot in her stomach was growing tighter every second and with two more thrust from her lover, Kagome came crashing over the edge calling has name. Inuyasha followed soon after howling into the night. Then his eyes flashed red and he bit down on her shoulder, but Kagome felt no pain.

Inuyasha collapsed on top of her but it didn't hurt at all. It was like she was made to handle his weight and it felt good to hold him like this. Both of their bodies were slick with sweat and they were both panting for air. Inuyasha looked up at her and rubbed her cheek with his hand.

"Kagome, I need to say this to you." His voice was breathy and low.

"What is Inuyasha?"

"I, Inuyasha, heir to the Western Lands and second son of the great demon lord Inutaisho, promise myself to you. If you are mine I will take no other as my life mate, I will be yours and no others as you are to me. I will protect you from whatever danger and care for you in any way. You will be the keeper of my heart and soul as I am to you, you have my love. I love you Kagome." They shared another kiss, and he rested his head back on her shoulder.

"I love you too Inuyasha."

He knew she was asleep after that, and he also knew he would have to deal with Kouga when he recovered and came looking for Kagome, but he didn't care. Kouga would never take her again; she was his and no one else's. And he knew the time would come when he would have to confront Kikyou and tell her he wasn't going to hell. But as long as he had Kagome he knew he could do anything, he was always better when she was near.
Inuyasha fell asleep with his face buried in crook of Kagome's neck, his nose right near his mark.

A/N: I think this is actually my favorite one-shot out of all the ones I've written. I hope you guys enjoyed it too.
