A single sigh passed his lips
as the blue light faded,
and suddenly,
how he felt the weight of five hundred years
come between him
and her scent,
and her voice,
and her aura
and her smile.

In his mind,
he became, once again,
that small lost boy
aching for the voice
of the mother who left him,
his first heartbreak,
and this new thing filled him,
his anxiety of losing her, too,
his Kagome,
his strength,
began to gnaw.

Miroku, watching from the shadows,
wondered how long it would take
before his friend,
finally unable to resist,
wrapped up in that special loneliness
when she was away
would jump in the well to follow his heart
